My professor stated to us in class that lighting could be its own 300-400 level course. A lot of my teachers integrated lighting in their lessons of course but never really a dedication and it almost should be. I believe it's just as important if not more than a cinematographer's camera, I mean, what if you had a lower quality camera, lighting could still bring your scene to life in my opinion. Great lesson, thank you.

4 жыл бұрын
Just by looking at it, I’ d like to take a guess saying between 5000 and 5600 since the daylight small spots are geled with CTO and look very warm orange. And he has to add a CTB on a daylight 120D to get the white turning more blue. I’d love to know his answer however.

Thank you for this, it looks so pretty! What were the camera settings for each shot (ISO, aperture...)? Besides moving the lights to handle angle and exposure, do you usually do any in-camera (exposure) reajusting when switching shots? I was told that usually the ISO must stay the same to create cohesion within a scene, and I'm always insecure about messing with exposure when moving the camera. Do you keep track of this just visually or use a photometer/false colour? Any tips on how to handle this? My whole experience is based on lights that can't be dimmed (ARRI's 1k tungsten fresnel, for instance), hence the question. Hope it makes sense x
@BradyBessette
@BradyBessette 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Many great questions, gonna do my best to answer. First of all my iso was at my camera’s native iso of 400 for best quality and I kept it there. Aperture I was at about 1.4 sometimes closing to 2.0 to get a little more sharpness on the edges. And yes I always adjust exposure switching shots. Sometimes I change settings slightly but I dim my aputure lights to match my settings which is helpful. Tools like false color give you a good reading of proper exposure, I use that mainly. I hope this helps!!

@BradyBessette
@BradyBessette 4 жыл бұрын
I can! Rather than traditional blue and orange colors I wanted to go for more of a cyan and amber color palette. So In post (I use davinci) I targeted the blues and changed the hues in that direction. Creative choice, there’s no right or wrong
@DomingoDiscala
@DomingoDiscala 4 жыл бұрын
I loved that complementary contrast... And i realized there is not much of it in hollywood films. Am i right? At least not as an entire film color palette. There is more on red and green and a lot of orange and blue. But amber and green-cyan shown like this, i could watch an entire movie, gives the right mood. Idk it was something new for me and i loved it. Surely if i some day make any kind of production ill try it.

Man, I'm just up looking at KZbins videos and came across your content. I like what you have going on. This is 2 for 2. I just came here from your Pro Mist video. Beautiful shots. I've subscribed. You have a really great eye for this field. Back in film school, I did a project with a car seen meant to convey what you've done. I was the director on the project and had a really good DP, but at that time, he nor I was able to pull off the desired rainy night. It was at my apartment in Florida outside in a parking lot, so the water-hose wasn't even on my mind. If we had only thought a bit longer, or stumbled across content like this, I could have pulled up on a friend in a residential neighborhood. I believed then, the scene would have pulled out the emotion I was going for. You're right, anyone who hasn't dropped a few self-made water drops of their own in the rain are lying. I gave you this in depth complement, because it's too often everyone comes to criticize what takes time, energy, passion, know-how, confidence and a host of other attributes of what you clearly have demonstrated, you're on your game Brady.
