The photography and video are beautiful, but I love how that’s just kind of along for the ride with the main event of Alicia’s first big backpacking adventure with you. So nice to see real stories, not just film and gear topics. Oh, and whoa! The colors in the landscape photo at 11:01! I can’t remember the the artist’s name, but that so reminds me a painter’s style. Incredible! (Speaking of topics, I’m excited for the next tavern and burger joint review series). Cheers!

Thanks, Bob! Glad I was able to capture Alicia's first trip. This will be a special video to look back on for us. I was really happy with the results of those sunrise photos. Going back and forth on whether I like the Portra 800 or Velvia shots more. Getting my liver ready for the next bar scene video, stay tuned! Cheers!

Yess, new backpacking trip! Man, the shots at 11:00 are fantastic! What is your post-proces like?
@BraeHunziker Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Post process for editing the photos? The portra shots didn't require much editing. Just some contrast and saturation adjustment. The velvia shots required a bit more work and the latitude from that stock isn't as good as color negative film. I bracketed the Velvia shots 2-3 times each and found that over exposing the sky by one stop was the sweet spot. Anything more than that and I wasn't able to pull back the highlights enough to retain texture in the clouds. Had to play with color temp, shadows, highlights, contrast, and saturation with those velvia shots. Out of the 10 shots on the roll, I was happy with about 3-4 of them.

Good to see you again! Wonderful photographs. I’m glad you forced yourself to get up with the sun, nice photos with a whisp of clouds on the peaks. What I really appreciate about your videos is you take great photos not just film photos you pretend are great because they are on Portra. Nicely done.

I absolutely understand your pain about range finders and lens caps. I can’t even begin to tell you how many dam shots I have taken with the lens cap on. I have shot entire rolls. My fuji gw690ii and my Leica. So now I have hidden all of my range finder lens caps. I for some reason just can’t remember to take them off. So now they are hidden for good! Your images turned out absolutely epic! Great stuff! 😊

Dude, dropping that lens cap totally sounds like something I would do! Good to see you made it back alright! When I saw you start sliding, I thought something had happened where you might have gotten hurt. Totally understand the views though! Nothing but you some other people and the mountain goats! ✌️

Love the content as always! Photos are stunning. Question though, when you setup the video camera and then go back to pick it up, what’s your process for packing it away? I would imagine you’d want it handy, so completely collapsing the tripod and then packing that away along with the camera seems like a lot of work. Do you have a quicker process for that?
@BraeHunziker Жыл бұрын
I have a pad on the tripod called a LegPad made by a company called LensCoat. This makes it pretty comfortable to rest the tripod on my shoulders while I walk!
@rafael-gd9ke Жыл бұрын
amazing colour grading! do you use any presets?
@BraeHunziker Жыл бұрын
I do a rec 709 conversion from slog 3 and then use a free preset called "Sedona" set at about 40% intensity. From there just some color temp, contrast, saturation, shadow, and highlight adjustments if needed!
@Cookerab Жыл бұрын
This is great. You should have a million subscribers with this content. Like the Velvia shots too. It got me into film in the early 90s. The colors you can get... but not a lot of forgiveness. If you haven't, try it out sometime with a graduated nd on an medium format SLR (impossible to do well on a rangefinder IMO).
@BraeHunziker Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Yeah I have a grad ND system, but like you said, it's difficult to setup on a rangefinder. I read an article about how you can get pretty accurate results via a marking system on the filter kit ( www.andylatham.co.uk/section52452_7493.html ). I haven't tried it yet though. Was wishing I had an SLR and my ND when I was shooting those morning shots, oh well...

Been a professional photographer for over 25 years and have to say. I wish you would dump that gear and move over to a Fuji GFX 100S medium format digital along with their GF 23 f4, GF 45-100 f4 and GF 100-200 f5.6. You would wonder why you waited. It would reinvent your creative juices along with performance you'd only dreamed of. I named this combo as it would allow you to choose film emulations which I know you have a thing for. If I was rich I'd send you that combo. If KZbin ever gets you to a high level and you could afford it something to think about. Sure would greatly simplify and elevate your efforts.
@clarhettcoalfield3616 Жыл бұрын
Yeah... Nice set up for digital.... but it ain't film.
@BraeHunziker Жыл бұрын
I have considered it. Not as a total substitute for film, but for consistent landscape work. I will likely give the system a try at some point. Both medium format film and the fuji gfx system are viable options for landscape photography in my opinion!
