A wonderful performance. This is some of Brahms’ best work by far; there is just so much beauty and so much that is simply real about them. I’ve had the opportunity to perform both songs a couple of times and every performance has just been so special. We need more viola/mezzo duets!!

Aww, I love these two songs, I actually helped out my friend on her recital, and transcribed the viola part for clarinet, and it was such a wonderful color palette to play with. Love the original though, my word...

Wonderful performance! I played the viola part several times and never get tired of these songs. I was looking forward to the 2nd song since it said 2 songs. -)

I'm a violinist myself, but good viola music is my guilty pleasure! We may give you a bit of a hard time with all our viola jokes, but in reality, a well-trained violist can make their instrument sound melodic and beautiful, like you did! (Now don't let anyone from TwoSet catch me here, haha!)

Beautiful music. I am confused about the pianist sheet music. I see he has a tablet on the piano and it appears he is reading the tablet but never turns pages. Am I just blinking and missing him turning the pages or do they turn themselves?
@courtneybaritone01366 жыл бұрын
He has a pedal for the tablet which turns the pages.

Hey tvk I just got back from my cello lessons and shes spent the entire lesson trying to fix the way my hand was angled, I've been playing with my hands in what is a comfortable position to me for the past 7 years (since I started playing the cello) but I just think it's weird that she is taking so much effort to try and fix something like that, is it really that big of a deal? Also what certain abilities do the players at Juilliard have that make them so unique, and is technical playing highly important to them?
@ThatViolaKid6 жыл бұрын
If your teacher is emphasizing it, it's a big deal. Go ahead and humor her. A lot of times, what feels comfortable isn't optimal. So, it's very likely your teacher is setting you up for later success. Your setup is THE MOST important aspect of having a long career. When it comes to Juilliard, the skill level is incredibly varied. There's nothing "special" about the players. They are simply really reliable players who can read music really well, have great rhythm, play reliably in tune, and they understand basic fundamentals of phrasing. Remember, Juilliard is a school, not a destination. It's a place to grow and evolve =)

This is why violas are better, they have far more projection and are far louder and don't require as many compared to the violin
@klimentmilanov6 жыл бұрын
I gotta say one thing, and that's that violins actually project a lot better than violas because of their dimensional build is far more compatible with the pitch-range of a violin than the viola. Viola is that awkward fit in the middle of the violin and cello where too small dimensions of the viola compromise the richness of the lower strings, but too large dimensions compromise the brightness of the higher strings. In order to meet the projection of a violin, the viola's size should be 22" or something like that (as opposed to the more standard 16"). Its lower string sound is what makes the viola unique and you can hear this sound a lot more distinctively among violins just because of the uniqueness of the noise, not the projection. Sorry to get all factual here lol I actually probably shouldn't have since it sounds like I'm offended (which I'm not) and am writing an essay to prove how wrong I think you are, I really just felt like nerding out about viola facts XD

@@klimentmilanov Spot on! As much as I love the viola, its acoustic inferiority is the reason why it's overshadowed by the violoncello and violin.

I was just about to cry.... can you get someone to sing "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" (The Queen of the Night) by Mozart or at least react to the legendary Edda Moser version of that same song? I'd be delighted (coming from a Tchaikowsky and Beethoven Fanboi, who is half german, half polish.) Let's just say I'd appreciate that plus the Kanon of Bach's house-teacher ;) ........ with a Harpischord. And you're more awesome than me, since I used to be only able to play e-Bass and metal-Guitar and do gutural vocals until an accident wrecked my left hand. And yes, I'm serious and not trolling. One Viola/Bratsche is worth 10,000 guitarplayers, my man
