Maybe something was lost in translation so that's why you're questioning the ending. The woman at the end is a Portuguese child who was thought to be possessed in 20th century, backwhen the Church still had a lot of sway over that region of Europe. That emancipated woman would be around 80 or 90 at the time of the movie. The Vatican sent an exorcist to check on her and he determined that the disease was demonic in nature, even going as far as saying that she herself wasn't infected, but only possessed. It is known, in mythology, that demons can spread miasma and that the miasma can be simple diseases, even if their origin is supernatural. In rec2 and rec3 (despite them being more tongue in cheek), we see that the infected are affected by scripture and exorcism techniques as well. In itself, the fact that the virus is demonic doesn't really detract from the story, it just gives us a culturally relevant point of grounding to sustain disbelief (that culture being those found in the iberian peninsula because not every country is the US, nor do movies have to cater to it)
@LordofFullmetal4 жыл бұрын

@@Spilled_Pizza That doesn't mean it's viral, it could be the larval form of the slug/worm, like how heartworms in dogs transmit through mosquito bites, and numerous worms that infect humans have their own paired fly species to hitch a ride on. Some nematodes can be transmitted through scratches. Etc
@Spilled_Pizza4 жыл бұрын
@@KarisMajik you misunderstand. I was never arguing wether it was viral or not, I’m arguing that it is in fact a demon. In fact I believe it’s a viral, parasitic combination, in the way that there is the slug (the demon) that can live off its host like a parasite, while being able to spread its demonic virus. Hence why people turn from bites, and scratches, and fluid like a virus. However, it is ALSO demonic in nature - as it all started with a demon possession and the irrefutable evidence that holy prayer can stop the zombies dead in there tracks.

1:59 for anyone wondering why the FD is called instead of the cops and feels like reading 😂, aside from the fact that the FD has a good standing relationship with EMS and have more opportunities to utilize EMS than cops. It’s just firefighters are generally more emotionally equipped to look at someone in a crisis and not feel threatened in the same way cops do. Cops are so on guard for unusual behavior and disturbingly undertrained for intervention in a mental health crisis or physical health crisis causing behavioral changes (think UTI causing aggression in older women) Firefighters interact with people during some of the worst moments of their lives. When they’re still in complete disbelief over whatever losses they’ve suffered, property, pets, livestock, and worst of all their own loved ones. When I was 11-16 taking care of my mom with severe mental health issues and severe epilepsy id occasionally need help. When I called for help 911 operators repeatedly decided cops were a better choice than ems or the FD, I was a child I had no concept for what was the best option to help us. As far as I knew cops were supposed to help. So the trauma I experienced during the cops response compared to ems or FD response has messed me up to this day. I’m about to be 26 and I still can’t speak to cops without my whole body starting to tremble with adrenaline so I can get away.

Let me try to explain whole demon thing and it will make perfect sense. In movies who are most likely to be possessed? People who had the worst day in their life. People who struggle, people who are depressed, who are alone and suffering. People who have bad things going in their life are most likely to be possessed. In religious text and myths there are all sorts of demons. There are demons of fire, demons of ice, and of course there are demons of diseases. Combine two previous facts together: you have a disease which was engineered by a demon and anyone who get infected by it get easily possessed by said demon. So, it is not that diseases carries demonic possession, but instead everyone who get infected become free real-estate for the demon(s) of diseases.

Im pretty sure the religious aspect is just a demonstration (if this movie is taken in isolation given another comment i read) of how some very religious folks will just. Refuse to or twist their understanding of biology and disease because they refuse to compromise their faith-based world view.
@highlordfenrir4 жыл бұрын
Ya know, to not buy into the paranormal aspect of the story and virus you miss a very good example of something similar that actually resonates with the name of your channel. The Croatoan virus from Supernatural (first appearance S2:E9) is very similar to the premise of the virus in (Rec).

I dont like quarantine at all. The "scientific" element takes away the mystery of the zombies in rec. The virus in rec is a demonic possession taking the form of a virus, making the infected act more as a possesed hive mind then just mindless 28 days later type runners.
@theOriginalRudeDude4 жыл бұрын
Man I remember when I saw rec’s ending and I got even more scared, that sudden realization that it’s not even scientific anymore is just insane. Quarantine was good too but I’ll always prefer rec 1 and 2. Especially with them being written side by side. 3 lost me though, it was great as an action movie though, loved discount spongebob.

[•REC] is so confusing because it's super rabies. But the director Pablo said it's a demon. So you can't REALLY defeat it because you have to focus on one side and that allows the other side to become more powerful. I've called this series Infection-Possesion and I thought only this series would have that genre but now the (my) genre includes 'When Evil Lurks'. So far, there are no fucking joke, NO other movies that fit the criteria/include supernatural driven infections. Also, 3 fun fact's; 1. The cameraman, Pablo, is named after (and played by as well as named after) one of the director's. 2. Pablo was so into the character, he forgot that it was just a character. He would genuinely stay in character on accident because he was THAT into the role. 3. The set of [•REC]; Genesis was such a friendly set, they sometimes forgot they weren't at an actual wedding :)

Idk about anyone else but this also remind me of Evil dead and the new Evil dead rising. Because in those movies too if you get bit or scratched or hurt by the possessed people you turn into a monster too and no matter how many time you stab them or shoot them they don’t die, they probably will be unresponsive for a little bit but they’ll always wake back up. I was kinda putting two and two and those movies have something in common too that it’s tied to a demonic possession. These movies are absolutely terrifying. I believe in God and the devil very much and these movies scared me to the core at some point I was actually trembling while watching.

I always thought that one of the movies either the movie Rec or Quarantine were movie tie-ins for the Left for Dead aeries as they turn the same gray color, have the same black mucas around eyes nose and mouth. The same kind of emaciated corpse that matches the witch from the series. It was all too coincidental for my liking and i thought of them both or atleast that one of the movies as being the Prequel to the games since the green flu is essentially a mutated strain of rabies.

When done right, and not done solely as a lazy way to cut costs without any legitimate story based reason for using that type of filming, i really enjoy them. But i feel like they get the flak they do because too many film makers have used it as a cheap gimmick and it's ruined the image of the found footage style by pumping out cheap shitty movies. But ones done well like this, as above so below, pyramid, cloverfield, the visit, and of course the blair witch protect, i do really enjoy.
