Think the best monster in terms of design and practical effects is imo. The Shapeshifter from The Thing
@Goldenkitten13 жыл бұрын
It includes one of my favorite scenes in horror. Seeing things outside of windows is common in horror but the way they did it was perfect. The group is in the cabin and one of the guys is sitting on a couch next to a window and talking with a girl at the bar. She turns away just in time for Pumpkinhead to walk right by the window past the totally oblivious couch guy and turns back right as it passes out of view. This was just a serious departure from the trope as usually you only see a scary face covered in shadow or see something move off in the distance but not here, they just straight up show Pumpkinhead in all his glory walking by our meal for the evening. I'll always remember that scene.
@Lucifronz3 жыл бұрын
Not sure about unmatched, I think the Thing did an amazing job before it, but as far as single one-design monsters go, it beats many comparable horror movie monsters including the Xenomorph from the original Alien. It's a very clean and functional design and further proof that you can't beat practical effects when it comes to a badass movie monster.

@Nothing In Particular The supernatural could easily be something we don't yet just understand. I'm more freaked by demons than aliens, though that's for more personal reasons. We are all frightened by different things, some from bugs, others from closed spaces, others from heights and others from animals or people. We all can enjoy a good thrill from a good horror movie though, which is one thing that binds probably all of Roa's fans together.
@dr.calibrations79844 жыл бұрын
@@theworstcatholic7247 True, im horrified by deep sea and open outer space. 2 things that I will NEVER be near, but it horrified me to an endless degree. I dont necessarily fear demons, while I believe in their existence and am aware that considering yourself immune to their machinations means your extremely susceptible to their temptation, I do not fear them, not because I believe myself immune. But because I am faithful, I pray, I respect God, I wear my faith openly and have the Star of David tattood on my skin. If a demon follows me, I can at least chuckle that it is having a dreadful experience. And if its following me, its not following anyone else.

I remember something a old friend of mine from the 90’s had told me. This friend was also a pastor’s kid. He was a huge fan of the aliens movies and had a bunch of there figures. One interesting thing I’ve always remembered he told me was the aliens design from the movie “Aliens”, were taken from a book that described in detail what demons looked like. I remember a tales from the crypt movie that had portrayed demons in the same design but more human looking heads. The guy who designed these creatures for the movies really knew how to scare people.

And by the by... Pumpkinhead=One of my all time favorite cult classic monster movies. This is part of my childhood that I hold dear. My mom and I had it rough when I was really young. Totally her doing as she was an alcoholic and I had to help raise myself lol. But she would just run us off to a motel for about a month or so, if CPS came sniffing around. And we would always watch the horror movies on HBO. This is where I met Pumpkinhead for the first time. So just thank you for this, sincerely.

I *LOVE* this movie, Stan Winston's directorial debut, and the creature effects (and the dread/scares) are GREAT. Sequel, oh my gosh I wish that didn't exist, but it was still a thing and I refuse to just hate it for no reason, it does try to... make up its own lore, bla bla...bla. Laying in bed on a dead Friday night syndicated I'm actually grateful. But this original, this was extremely "cool" (trying to sound young here, I'm forty) and actually a bit new in a way, having the monster master himself run the show... Jurassic Park with Demons! Lit the same way too! (Hey you gotta emulate, emulate Spielberg) Thanks Roanoke, this was one of your best vids and I've faved all of them that I've seen, you're obviously incredibly educated and intelligent and if I ever hear "meat suit" again I'm going to eat something. If you ever read this, why did you choose the name Roanoke? Best wishes everybody, thanks for all that ALL of you do, and always a very sincere farewell

Also! How to kill Pumpkin Head: First Film: Kill the summoner (probably the most effective way) 2nd Film: Shoot the mf demon into the iron mine (and it’ll blow up?? Idk that movie was a tragedy of a tragedy) 3rd Film: Have the Summoner burn herself alive in a crematorium (because reasons) 4th Film: Shoot the summoner. Again. Also your boyfriend the Summoner can Grab the demon and take a nice fall down a random well. Because *why not*!

People have friends like Joel because, for the most part, people are stupid. That is the only way to explain it. I mean, it's not like Joel or people like him make any effort to even pretend that they aren't douche lords so it can't be that others aren't aware. It has to be stupidity. With that out of the way, I'd like to say that this video is awesome. All of your videos are awesome. As far as I'm aware, you're the only person doing things like this and it's highly entertaining.

I think everyone that loves horror has that ONE movie when they were probably too young to be watching it in the first place that scared them so bad they were left wanting more. I had a few that left an impact on me even after the movie was over: The Grudge (seen at age 9) I couldnt sleep for about a week because of the scene where the girl gets dragged under the sheets and abducted, Mirrors (I think I saw this before Grudge) the scene where the girl in the bathroom pries her own jaw apart left me ducking mirrors anywhere I went, and One Missed Call (I was probably about 9 or 10) the ringtone really creeped me out and I remember being at my auntie and uncles house the same night I watched it and seeing on their phone that it said "1 missed call" and I told my mom about it and wouldnt leave her side for the rest of the night. Lmao good times. A horror movie hasnt gotten me like that in a long time but heres hoping a real good one scars me for life :D.
