The differences between brain imagining techniques have never been clear to me. This is the first time I understood all of them, and that too so easily. Your teaching style is amazing. Thank you so much!

Pet explanation is somewhat incorrect as the imaging technique records mainly the levels of radiation coming from annihilation events happening in the body or brain from the decay of the radioactive compound the person had been given, e.g radioactive glucose or oxygen or something else to track their respective activity in the body or brain. It’s not about flood flow. You missed spect in this review, otherwise good overview.
@PsychExamReview7 жыл бұрын
You're correct and I oversimplified a bit in my explanation. To explain more fully, the scanner is detecting gamma ray emissions from radioactive glucose, and the idea is that areas of higher radioactivity indicate greater energy use in that region. My explanation skipped over the related assumptions that greater radioactivity indicates more glucose and more glucose suggests greater blood flow to that area (to deliver more energy because it is more active). Hope this is clearer, thanks for commenting!
