I have rituals before I go to work as a travel nurse. I want to be nurturing to my patients but also my coworkers. I pray ahead… I ask for help balancing what I’ll be asked to do… I ask for protection for my patients and that my patient load will be reasonable… I ask for humor when it’s appropriate… I ask that we will all help each other. I arrive early and do prep work to set me up for success- gathering supplies and patient info ahead of time before I need it so that I have it if/when a crisis happens. 23 years and counting and so many coworkers from so many walks of life that I have been privileged to know and care about. He’s right- forethought and prep and the right mental state.

Most people are commenting on his compassion and humility. It makes me realise how far medicine has drifted from such core values. If they were common place, there'd be no need to mention them, they'd be a given. He needs to teach future generations of doctors about humanity whilst practising medicine.

Ever notice how really smart people don't overthink things. They just get to the core of things and it's simple. Even the most complex things can be broken down piece by piece until they are simple, and if they are not just accepting that they are unknowable at the present time and letting it go. I think this man epitomizes that. I love genuinely intelligent people. It's like a breath of fresh air being around them.

He starved himself to die cause he made peace with his life was sad it was his end and didn’t want to die but if he couldn’t live how he wanted he’d rather not be here. Dr, Jandial is a beautiful soul. Empathetic, sympathetic and caring human being. If I ever need a neurosurgeon, I pray the doctor I’m referred to will have the same or similar characteristics as he has. I’m 67 and recently had a CAT scan because my blood pressure was 180/64 ( I was having a “ panic attack “ over an entirely different health issue that I had not yet been able explained to the nurse nor the E.R., physician yet ). There was no stroke nor evidence of any strokes because this is what the E.R., physician was looking for based on my B/P, not the problem I presented with. Mild cerebral atrophy ( smaller brain ) and also mild “ senescence “ changes was the diagnosis as well as no stroke observed. Nothing was suggested for me to do nor was I referred to any neurosurgeon. Can anxiety ( panic of the unknown, heights, people seem to look at me, childhood trauma, physical or otherwise, etc. ) change the size of the brain, also can injury cause these changes or have I always had this size brain? What are slight senescence changes? I’m a realist and I have a strong faith in God through Jesus The Christ as well as his Holy Spirit and am not afraid to die. I had a kidney tumor that I first cast out of my body and then took an angiogenesis-inhibitor and it was gone in ten days. My oncologist was angry ( I had absolutely no traditional medicinal treatment ) but he almost amazed at the same time. I do not even contemplate it at all, any longer because it’s gone. Empathy is crucial to a spiritual connection to one another. I’m dyslectic with numbers but not language and also suffer with many genetic/ hereditary physical issues being diagnosed at a young age. Does having a rare blood type have anything to do with this . Also, why do I run to danger, car accidents, someone being robbed, epileptic seizure, a drowning child and the like without any concern for my own life? I was honored to be with my mother, given two weeks to live, and had over 100 “ dead “ areas in her brain but who could speak, keep up with conversation and understand all that was being spoken about and responding properly. Eventually she finally became comatose, not speaking, eating nor drinking for over a week ( at home ). I whispered to her that I had to go to the dentist and would be back in a short time, her eyes suddenly flew open and then closed. I “ heard “ her say, although she was not speaking, she conveyed to me ( somehow ) that today was the day she was going to die. So I began singing to her, holding her hand from the beginning to the end of her passing and what I found very interesting was as soon as I apologized to her for disrespecting her, at times, and asking for her forgiveness ( now one of my brother’s walked in and put his hand on my shoulder and an immense heat went down my arm into her hand, which I was holding ) she then took her last breath. I also anointed her body with oil and prepared her body yet the Hospice nurse said that this was not for me to do but I stated “ No ma’am, it’s not for you to do, it is for me to do because I was created and grew within her womb, not you “. Thank you for this discussion and for listening. ☺️🙏👑🙏🧠❤️

45:00...Dr.Rahul Jandial... when he started talking about how cancer patients compartmentalize their lives... Like into season as a way of coping and the challenges they face with a cancer diagnosis... That is when I realized what kind of NeuroSurgeon, Surgeon, Doctor he is. He is the real deal. Full of caring and compassion for the patient. Having a repoir with the patient and making a plan together. He is not a stereotype. He is an individual. All Sergeons are not the same. All Doctors are not the same. He is the real deal... One like him is worth a thousand who have chosen their professions for the wrong reason...God bless him and thank you for sharing your experiences as a professional in honesty. I am a nurse and we cannot talk about these things while we are working. I love the things you are talking about. Especially you sharing how your prospective about caring evolved after medical school.

The compassion expressed among the two of you is beyond refreshing. I had an emergency cesarean section with my first child, and it was traumatic. I do not handle surgery well evidently. So my second child, eight years later, I begged to try for a vaginal birth. Nope; he wouldn't hear of it. At least it was scheduled, and not emergency, but I was still terrified. The anesthesiologist was incredible. He saw how terrified I was. He stood at my shoulders next to my husband and said he wasn't going anywhere; he talked to me and told me how much longer, etc. The compassion was priceless. Absolutely priceless. This was 16 years ago and am still so thankful. And that is nothing compared to brain cancer. I can only imagine how thankful your patients and their families are to you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Truly.

I really appreciate this informative conversation. I am a cancer patient, not brain cancer, but I also have to be scanned every 90 days to check for reoccurrence. Mine is a rare, highly aggressive, form of cancer that affects less than 1% of all cancer patients. It is called “Malignant Retroperitoneal Lipo Sarcoma”. It occurs in both men & women after the age of 50. These tumors grow out of the rear abdominal wall, near the right kidney. Often times these tumors attach themselves to the right kidney, so when they resect (remove), the tumor the right kidney is removed as well. These tumors tend to metastasize to the lungs & the liver as well. I was totally not expecting the diagnosis, because my symptoms seemed unrelated to cancer, or so I thought. I had a chronic cough for over a year, unexplained weight loss, & nausea. Because of the nausea I couldn’t eat much. From the constant coughing my head hurt. I was just going along in my life. I’m thinking I have some sort of respiratory infection, & that I would be better soon. I had raised my 4 older children & they were settled into their own lives & families. I was still taking care of my youngest, adult child, with special needs. I was a mom & a grandma. I thought I was in the best place in my life. Then 💥 “Boom!!”, I find out that they found a “suspicious” mass. My immediate thought wasn’t fear of dying. I was optimistic that they would remove it & I would be fine. Then the pathology came back malignant, Stage 3. They told me the mortality rate is 90%. So that means that survival rate is only 10%. I began to spiral. My mind was reeling! I began to see my life in very finite terms. I started to think of my life as “not being able to make plans, but in terms of what I need to do before I die”. This was a very traumatic time. As I moved forward, I’ve come to see my life in the 12 week intervals that the Dr. mentioned. You begin to compartmentalize what you can do or accomplish between scans. The week of scans & waiting for the results can be agonizing. It’s nice to see that the Dr. realizes what his patients are going through. I think very few Dr.’s understand this. I think if more Dr.’s understood these concepts, they could help their patients much more. It’s not that they can “cure” cancer, but they can help you accept your new reality & how to better navigate what time you have. Btw, I plan on being in the 10% that survive & I hope to die of old age, (God Willing!!), but death is unavoidable. No one cheats death no matter how rich or poor, handsome or beautiful, intelligent or lack thereof, they are. That day will come! The best we can hope for is a quick, painless, & dignified death. I pray that all of you reading this live long, happy, & healthy lives! Live to appreciate the small things, as well as the big ones. Know that we’re not taking anything material from this life with us, only the good or bad, we have done. Best Wishes on your journey!! Denise🌸

This interview answered a lot of questions I had about the way we view the world, us who work so closely with humans that are dying or they have a terminal diagnosis.There is a lot of rejection about death in our days and I find that there is so much to learn and explore. I also see it myself how important it is to work in medicine to actually have a lot of life experience... it truly makes a difference! I liked listening to his progress but I didn't feel a connection to deep anxiety/getting rid of negative thoughts in the podcast as such. I can see his growth though in himself. I can see how he has connected energy wise to himself too and his patients which is great. Many physicians should listen just to connect to why they are in medicine as we can sometimes feel lost!

The problem with such inspirational talks is that they are too positive and cannot apply to childhood trauma. No, thoughts cannot undo such deeply held trauma. He even says that a person that lost half of his body could not recover from depression. So where is the medication. And the positive thinking? I wish this person had done Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR) or brainspotting or clinical hypnosis or Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) etc.
@jhubbard72562 жыл бұрын
I would suggest Dr Gabor Mate’s discussions on the power of the mind to understand, reframe, and heal childhood trauma. Dr. Daniel Amen’s Clinic is also a game changer for identifying and helping to heal brain trauma - both physically and mentally. Very rare to find this deep empathy, compassion, humanity in doctors and surgeons now a days. I grew up with a close relative that became a very famous neurosurgeon in our home land. It was very disturbing to witness how power can corrupt and abuse. Thank you doctors for your deep insightful conversations. It's an honor watching and listening to both of you.

Dr Chatterjee , I had to stop the play at 1:12 , spend a few moments in quiet contemplation as my heart went into ruptures of gratitude at this piece of knowledge of the human brain being delivered by Dr Jandial Would I as a lay person have ever thought about it or even wondered about the orchestration of the functions of the human brain and yet to experience it like it was happening before my eyes with such simplicity and in such intricate details, was indeed a spiritual and uplifting experience. Imagine the years of dedication and contemplation, devotion to his craft and most of the all the human being himself , if you were in awe, i have a large crater in my being where my awe was meant to be or should I say a large mountain of awe. Thank you Dr Jandial and yourself Dr Chatterjee as I express my thanks to the Universe and to the process that allowed for that information to be delivered. I think I should go hide, as my emotions are going wild. Just saying "Many thanks" ..

WOW ! This was like Science and Love for humanity combined. The cadence, rhythm and gentle tonality of their voices during the Q&A was great. You didn't have to be a neuroscientist to understand what they were saying.. It gave me insight, Strategies, and it absolutely gave me hope .

Rohini, Reduce negative thoughts. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. If you want to be guided in the above meditataion watch the following video on you tube "Anapana medtation for all in English 10 minutes" practiced all around the world. Listen with headphones. . Do the above meditation daily to have a relaxed life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir.

This is a really insightful conversation and I identified with that feeling of having no time to waste as a cancer survivor at a very young age. It taught me to appreciate life so much more particularly nature and the beauty of it all.
