Parallel lights wont take down the entire circuit when the damn bulb fails

Suppose all of the light bulbs are identical and have the same resistance. By using parallel configuration, all of the light will have the same full source voltage which will generate more current compared to series configuration. Series configuration will cause the light to dim because of low current due to high series resistance. This also means when we change the bulb with different unmatched resistance value, it will affect the whole bulbs performance.

Earlier it was one fail remaining off & low brightness Now it is one fail remaining on & high brightness

I would guess that the main reason is that it is safer / isolated from mains, low voltage. And that it was made possible bz the combination of advancements - LEDs and smaller cheaper SMPS instead of massive transformer that would have been required in the past.
