I always said that myself. I love the expanded mobility. The walljumps and dashes just add so much stylish flare and depth to the movement. Especially when they started adding air dashes in X2. It's just a much faster paced game overall. I like the classic series too. However, I've always been fascinated by the various movement styles and mechanics that are present in video games. This is why I prefer the X series.

zRexx Right there with you. When I'm making a game, my biggest focus is on how the player controls. What options do they have? How does it serve the game overall? There's a certain finesse in making it all work. I made a control scheme similar to this and it took 2 weeks of revisions before I was even the least bit satisfied with it.

"Zero's ending in X5 is the same thing as his ending in X6; he goes to sleep." Not.. really? In X5 it's implied he died from his damages altogether as his last memories are of Iris before he shuts down, kinda like Vile's ending in his mode in Maverick Hunter X. The original Zero series plans would've had Zero genuinely revived from the dead, while X became evil; whether the bad ending or good ending would've been canon in that regard, i'm not sure, but all bets point towards the bad ending. Once X6 came in Inafune had to revise it to Zero just being placed into sleep and left to rot, and the Copy X plot came into play, but at least the X6 writer(s) added in this bit to justify Zero's sleep.

Zero's ending in Mega Man X6 is not actually an ending of Mega Man X6; instead, it is supposedly the true ending of the entire Mega Man X series, serving as a replacement of sorts for Keiji Inafune's intended conclusion from Mega Man X5. It was never officially stated when the ending takes place, I got this info from the Mega Man wiki.

*+Fusion Wing* Actually, if what TV Tropes says is anything to go by, Sigma's downfall began as early as the ending of X3. In that ending Doppler's antibody program did a lot more (permanent) damage to Sigma than people initially thought, hence why he never tried to possess X (or Zero) ever again after that game. Then he was revived by Berkana in Xtreme 2. And then they said that Sigma somehow spread his coding too thin when he released his virus across the planet in X5. And now Gate pretty much botched up Sigma's program when he brought him back to life. Hence Sigma's decay in X7 and X8. Make of what you will with all of that, but Gate messing his programming up does kinda make sense.

I think the explanation they gave legitimately was that X6's end scene was post X8-or-whatever-the-is-last in the series. Basically, it's a cop out to establish the lead-in to the Zero series without cutting off more X games. Edit Addendum: It's ironic that for how non-X this game's design is, Gate appears to legitimately have been designed with X in mind. I've seen videos online of X fighting Gate, and it's amazing how much easier he has it with dodging when he can shoot buster shots or the weapons at the energy from a distance and then have time to dodge, to the point that no damage is a feasible thing with Buster only and the right armor. Did they just decide that Zero needed a bit of the X-side's bullshit at the end?

Regarding the continuity: Capcom confirmed that Zero sealing himself away in X6 is the final event of the X series. However, it takes place long after X7 and X8. And yes, X7 and X8 are canon. After all, ZX Advent features "Model A" who is clearly based on Axl from X7 and X8.

Also according to some guidebook on the Zero series (only released in Japan, natch) the final level of Zero 1 is the same place as the final tower of X8. That doesn't really work though so who the hell knows.

Like, there are people who legitimately believe that souls exist _in_ the real world and are not necessarily incompatible with or contradictory to science. In other words, you're asking "are there souls or is it science-based?" which would be a false dichotomy. It is actually a common, and quite popular position of belief, that souls do exist in real life in _addition_ to science, that the two aren't necessarily contradictory to each other Of course, I myself don't believe in the existence of a soul, I find it silly. But most of the population wouldn't necessarily agree with the idea that either there are souls OR the world is true to science... many people at least believe that both conditions can be simultaneously true It is important to distinguish "religious-based" concepts from fantasy ones. Although the distinction might not really exist to an atheist (since they believe religion in itself to be a fantasy), the distinction is that religious concepts are seriously believed by people to be true and are believed to apply to the real world (even if they may still be false or illogical). Thus, if a work of fiction incorporates religious elements, that doesn't necessarily make it "fantasy" because religion in itself is believed to apply to the real world. But fantasy concepts, everyone generally agrees that those are contrary to the real world and contrary to science In other words, you're assuming that just because Battle Network references a soul (a religious concept) that it must be "fantasy" and can't be sci-fi. But your problem is equating "religious concepts" with fantasy ones, with many people believing religious concepts to be compatible with scientific findings while fantasy concepts are believed to be purely fictional.

Despite the X series having more low points than the classic series, I've always preferred the X series over the classic series and every other series of Mega Man games. I love having the wall jump, the extra sets of armor, and especially the Z-Saber. (even as X) The classic series doesn't have any of that, so I consider the classic series harder than the X series. In fact, I even have an easier time with Mega Man X5 than I do with the other classic series. (except Mega Man 2 and 8)

You know everybody says Ganondorf hijacks the plot, but when does he ever actually do that? Before you say Twilight Princess, he's foreshadowed as "evil power" that Zant has, and he's completely introduced halfway through the game. If anything Sigma is the worst offender of hijacking the "final boss" quota. At least Dr. Wily is always obviously in charge of whatever's going on.

Ah, the end stretch of Gate's Lab. I went through as X--- he has to navigate pits with precise jumps all while acid rain plinks away at his health. He NEEDS the Jumper and Speedster parts. Perhaps I was something of a masochist, but I pulled it off with the Shadow Armor.Though, that scene with the downed Isoc--- get to that point as X, and Alia will reference the Soul Erasure incident, which happened in Megaman Xtreme 2 for the Game Boy Color (known as Soul Eraser in Japan). That game was where Iris got introduced into the series, and its central plot was Reploid Souls being used by the main two bad guys. Not only was Xtreme 2 Zero's first fully playable appearance, but X and Zero got exclusive rights to fight one of the two end bosses.

That final Sigma Boss Fight can be a Ridiculously hard fight if you play as X. Playing as Zero completely destroys the challenge of it because of his vulnerability to the Ensuizan move, but if you're doing like a Buster Only run and aren't using the Ultimate armor, it can be Brutal. I used the Blade armor for a run like that and ended up having to carefully measure Giga Attacks to hit him with, which was a bit arduous, but very satisfying when I actually won.

+Varien Dathemire That's probably why I remember Sigma in this game being very tricky, I always play as X. Since X can't layer the damage like Zero, the fight lasts longer, and his attacks are hard to dodge. It may not be the hardest battle, but it certainly isn't easy. I will always say X2 has the easiest Sigma fight.

DNA for reploids is their Specs. By using a stronger reploids' "DNA" you are essentially upgrading your design and operational output by using a stronger model as a base. Sigma was brought back as a failsafe, hoping to use him to subjugate humanity. Since X and Zero responded quickly to the Nightmare, and since Gate never wanted to use Sigma, he was incomplete. This also allowed Sigma to retain his personality, and use the Maverick Virus to get a new body in X7. Zero put himself to sleep at the end of this game as you explained BSC. This leads to Dr.Weil stealing his body and creating Omega. After that X takes the Dark Elf after Omega's defeat and uses it to end the Elf wars. Zero then puts his new body to sleep and is left in a dilapidated lab where we find him in Zero 1.

First off, i fucking love the song that plays on Sigma's 2nd form. It's so great. 2nd, Apparently the angel and demon statues were "symbolic" of Sigma appearing. First locked up, then unlocked, then pissed off all the while that the angel statue degrades that signifies that Gate is down for the count. Finally about Zero's ending: It's supposed to be taken place at the end of the X series. So after X7, X8 and Command Mission. Then again this ending was made all the way back at 2001 with X6 so yeah. The game is very flawed and it has alot of fake diffaculty but i love it for it's music and the fun that it can bring some times. Besides, it's better than X5 at points. (Zero's revamped gameplay, the game doesn't screw you over for backtracking, THE ENDINGS AREN'T DEPENDENT ON THE RNG) But in all, if you want to experence the PS1 Megaman X games...play X4 for christ's sake. Or X3.

To clarify, the balls Gate shoots are called Nightmare Holes. Green-chase you Yellow-Shoot at you Blue- pull out in to make it impossible to wall jump red- slows you down purple- spawns a nightmare virus When Gate destroys a platform, it's called Nightmare Strike. Thanks you.

The megaman x commentaries really have an interesting story arc to them, first two set up the storm eagle joke and has Lewis making puns that the rest of the group laugh at, then ted comes in and makes puns every episode that are met with groans, then 5 comes around and ted makes a pun in the last part that everyone laughs at and at the end here everyone makes puns including ted. Theres other details like how lewis goes from complimenting the graphics to pointing out where the graphics don't work but seriously, the way the 6 playthroughs play out like a brainscratch movie is actually quite hilarious.

I agree with Ted. The nostalgia wave of the current world is something that has bothered me for years now. It's nice to get a good shout-out to how things were done in the past every now and again, but now, it seems like that's the only thing this industry knows how to do. At this point, it's stopped being cute and when the novelty of getting a retro re-vitilization fizzles away, what you are left with are graphics that still look nice, but could have been alot better if they tried a more detailed stylistic choice. Only do it if you actually have artistic integrity in doing so. Something like Axiom verge got away with using some retro-funk graphics, because they played it up with the idea of glitching and it's own can of subtext and symbolism I'm sure people have explored already. However, I will always encorage artists try alot of different things with presentation.

Zero doesn't go into hibernation in X's ending if you rescue him. Having this ending for Zero was essentially a way for them to cover their tracks if they wanted to end the series at X6 and lead it into the Zero series while leaving the door open for sequels in X's ending. X5 is still a more gracious jumping-off point since it explains why X has the Z-saber at the beginning of Zero 1 while also planting the seeds of X becoming the first ruler of Neo Arcadia through him becoming more assertive and charismatic after Zero's assumed death. Granted, Zero took back his saber during the Elf Wars, but that wasn't even conceptualized until Zero 2.

I enjoyed this LP. Especially with Clement in the commentary. I remember that I marathoned his MegaMan LPs up to Zero 4 years ago before he even did the ZX series or the Legend series. Fun times.

It's strange. While I get why so many people hate X6, rightfully so, I still find enjoyment out of it. I mean, out of all the X games, it's probably the 2nd one I've come back to the most, with X2 being the 1st. As for whether X6 or X7 is worse, I think that boils down to your preference. For me, X7 is the worst, mainly because it fails in being what a X game typically is, fast. Nothing about X7 makes me feel like a badass when I'm playing it. Bosses take way too long to fight without their weakness, and even still they're a hassle. More often than not because of the God awful controls or 3D perspective. I can go back and play X6 any day. X7 though? I'd rather drink paint thinner.

To me, whether you consider X6 or X7 worse boils down to this. Do you find bad stage design or bad gameplay elements worse? For me, I find bad gameplay elements worse. I feel as if I've built up a tolerance to bad stage designs, and I've basically been able to look past them. The only times the stage design really fucked with me were Blaze Heatnix, Metal Shark Player, and Gate Stage 2. Everything else felt manageable to me. X7 doesn't have that excuse, though. It sapped all of the gameplay elements that made the X series enjoyable and replaced it with arbitrary new systems, which feel utterly janky.

Am I the only one who actually likes the look of N64 games? I look at games like DK64, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Jet Force Gemini, and Extreme-G and yea they have less polygons but they look good to me. They have a certain charm to them you know? I think its primarily because the graphics weren't that advanced that they had to make up for it with the art style and they ended up looking pretty distinct and good to me. I still am impressed by the way Jet Force Gemini looks, and I only got that game about a year ago.

Zero's ending here is so ambiguous that it can occur anytime after X6, X7, X8, and Command Mission. Remember that the time between the X and Zero series is very nebulous about the times everything involving X, Zero, Weil, the Mother Elf, and Omega happened, so this ending can be the final scene of the X series, similar to how "Destroy All Monsters!" was made in the 1960s but is set in 1999 and features King Ghidorah being killed by the Earth monsters who then live in peace on Monster Island, which allows all of the other Showa-series Godzilla movies to be prequels to DAM since they're set in the years they were made.

With Gate, if you want to cut down on the amount of damage your taking, don't jump to and wait on the platforms that are on the very right or left of the arena. Jump onto one of the two center platforms and wait for him to shoot an orb then jump to the respective edge platform and break the orb from there. To avoid getting hit with the smaller orbs, all I can say is jump as soon as you break the orb. And I never noticed that Sigma yelled Zelo before you fought his second form. How'd they mess that up? If you think X's whining is bad now, OH BOY! I just can't WAIT till we get to X7! Fuck that game!

1. There was a fanfic that spoofed the entire X series (barring Command mission) and its X6 ending spoke volumes about the game itself: X: Where is Zero, who we just fought an entire war to save? Alia: Who cares, let's put Gate's corpse in my closet. They do. 2. I'd argue that Megaman and Bass is only bad if you're playing as Mega Man (since, outside of his ending and a few CDs there is no reason to not play as Bass) , which says bad things about its balance admittedly, but I still find it miles better than X6. 3. For some reason, I get the impression that Clement hates this game. Not sure why.

X7, X8 and Command Mission are all Canon though. Even with an ending like this, because they never specify exactly "when" the ending takes place. The events of the other games could all happen, and then Zero sleeps. And then the events with Mother Elf take place.

I count x6-x8 as cannon. I feel that the way the Zero series was rewritten does compensate for the fact that those games exist. certain events that lead to the zero series still would need to happen(the elf wars, the creation of Omega, X being an idiot with how he dealt with the mother elf) Plus the existence of Axl is the only thing that justifies why in universe Model A looks the way it does in the ZX series.

Well i for one think that Zeros X6 ending happens at the end of the X timeline while X7 and X8 happened between the events of X6 and Zeros ending. I like it better that way than to say "**fart** not canon blah" and because X8s plot is actually too good to be non-canon. It just frustrates me that after 2 really bad games Capcom gave us what is essentially the Devil May Cry 3 of the X series (as in "We done fucked it up last time here is the greatest apology imaginable") and it just got ignored because of X7s reputation so it didnt get a sequel. That's what's so great about the Zero series. It's the only one with no bullshit cliffhanger but a satisfying conclusion.

Y know, I get what Johnny is saying.... it's one thing if a game is annoying or frustrating, but to me, the worst possible thing a game can be, is boring. If it's frustrating, you wanna keep on going to show the game you are better than it, if it's buggy and glitchy, you can have a fun time riffing on it.........if it's boring, you just don't wanna play.

I'd like a little more reasoning as to why Johnny thinks X3 is worse than X6. It sounds like a similar reason to his stance on Sonic 06 vs Sonic Boom. Though at least with Sonic 06 he mentions getting a kick out of Sonic's sections. So what part of Zero in X6 was fun, despite the bullshit? Cause that usually is how I can classify how a worse programmed game is still better than a better programmed game. For me boring is worse than frustrating, if the frustration games can still be fun. Boring is boring, and there is no fun in boring. But frustrating is worse than boring if there is no fun in the frustration.

Story wise, a Mega Man X9 game could segway into the Zero Series. The Elf Wars, Dr. Weil and so on. All the events that were described in Mega Man Zero 3.
