I learned a lot with your workout of the Focusrite SC channel strip (just grabbed on a $29.99 sale). I am certainly new to mixing so I liked how you pulled up a frequency analyzer to quickly spot which freq you wanted to target. Smart, especially as my ears aren't trained like they should. Now I am using my IKM Metering plugin finally. Also learned more how to use the led meters on the bottom right while listening in order to gauge compressing or gating process. Your Frequency Scan Technique tip is golden. Works with the ADPTR Metric A/B to solo the sub/bass/mids/etc. As a result of this technique, I was able to clearly hear some balance issues in the bass and mids on a song I am working on. Great stuff my friend.

You're Welcome Elliot , i try to always use tools to show stuff not doing pointless marketing reviews , so i'm glad you get it . Don't be to obesessed with metering and analysis , it's most of the time a second check , to no be biased on what you're used to since working on a sound .... It's also a great tool to educate yourself , not only in post prod , but if you find to have for exemple the sample propblem other and other again , you might anticipate in production stage rage than having to fight em in mixing stage ;) When it comes to metering within plugins , it's another story , usually i never reveiw a plugin if it's not solid in all areas , including visual feedbacks , some plugin are way off when it comes to metering . A good way to check is to have a dedicated plugin for that and compare with the plugin ... ;) Thks for the comment and for watching . Take care !

Owners of Focusrite Clarrett interfaces get this plugin for FREE! Unfortunately I'm still a bit of a noob and have never actually used a 3rd party channel strip plugin before, so I'm a wee bit lost at the moment... But it sounds like they just handed me a primo piece of software to learn with. Thanks for showing me around the thing!

Take your time , it's actually the best you could start with , because when you'll master it you'll master all others ;) rewatch my videos several times to understand the logic behind it , it's quite simple , the trikiy part being the sidechain ... to understand the principle of sidechian in compression watch my "BX opto" video ;) Thks for watching !!

This is a great breakdown of all the functions and capabilities. Thank you. I'd love to hear/see you do a shootout between this bx_console_focusrite_sc and their bx_console_n. I'm curious about the difference in colouration and how much more transparent the Focusrite is compared with the Neve. Why? Because many of us are working just in the box and actually need more colouration in the digital environment. What's your opinion on that? PS. Very cool tune your mixing there.
@ZozillaThaGreat5 жыл бұрын
Thks Nathan for the kind words ...well comparing channel strip isn't relevant on direct A/B ....the key for a channel strip is to understand tht it emulate a console , and it's your first weapon usually on tracks ... From there , like i do with all plugin , matching settings and do A///B is irrelevant since during a reall mixing / production scenario ...i will not do it , instead you insert the plugin i start working !!! No how to compare ? exactly like i descibed : insert plugin A , mix with it ... close Insert Plugin B mix , and compare ....because it's not just about sound in its absolute , but how the plugin let's you interacte and how it drives you to the goal (easy or not ? fun or not ? safe or not ?) and this is the key .... To answer to you question , Focusrite console is superior to other in that specific area .... the tool interaction to reach the goal .... when you see the Scheps omnichannel , you clearly see wht a real pro needs in a channel strip , and this is clearly far more complexe /complete and superior to regular channels strip .... the only one that can handle what , at least i need is the focusrite ...sorry for the long answer but this is what i think ... Thks for watching and sharing your thoughts !! it gave me ideas for another video ;)

ZozillaThaGreat thanks for the comprehensive answer, buds. Yeah, when I’m producing tracks for other artists my goto channel strip is the bx_console_n. I love its feel and it gives beautiful colour to digitally recorded tracks and I trust it to do what it’s supposed to do. The focusrite looks like a great workflow workhorse, for sure, I’d be interested to see what kind of colour and how much colour it adds to digitally recorded tracks, as it is reputed to be the most transparent of all consoles, which might not be so great for digitally recorded tracks. I guess I’ll trial the focusrite and see. And, yes, the Scheps Omni channel strip looks very versatile, even being able to insert other external plugins within it is like a dream channel strip in many ways. Perhaps I’ll get around to trying it out someday too. Thanks for your fast response.

Harrison 32c. Don't have to wait for it. Just review it. Makes me laugh when I see that Waves CLA Mix. ANYWAY...great review and now shutting you down to go play with the new bx_Focusrite! Something I was hoping for from Dirk and co. I have the Midnight compressor/eq (based off the ISA 110/130) but recently found its top end...not quite refined. En ce case, cheers to your work and videos!

It's different , and imho more powerfull giving the options ....also you can drive it , waves ssl doesn't have this analogness modeled ... to have something as powerfull in waves catalog you'll have to go more Scheps omnichannel ....witch imho oner of the best channelstrip on the market ....; be sure to check also th PA lindell 80 , so much mojo , less polite that this one !! Wonder for how long people will fall for this gimmicks plugins. If you like this GUI, then OK. But there is nothing here that can not be achieved with many of the hundreds plugins available out there.
@ZozillaThaGreat5 жыл бұрын
What you say is partially cirrect , but same can be said about those other plugins versus this one ;) it s a question of choices ...option ...and the most important , workflow ....i can give you 3 plugins with the exact same algorythm , but with different layout and settings capability and you will have 3 sonic direction all distinct ...and one would be the one that feet concept as a all ... Anyway rhks for sharing your thougth , same can be said for cars , goods , hardware ..everything in essence .. One thing you underestimate maybe is inspiration ...if i have a new plugin exactly the same as another expt it inspire me and make me reach my sound faster , i will buy it simply because i know how crucial time is during creative process ... Thks for watching

@@ZozillaThaGreat Of course, I understand your point. I personally do not care about snake oil, I look at those things objectively, but I have many friends with strong beliefs that there is some kind of magic going on here that helps them to achieve better mixes by suing those nice GUI plugins. ;) If we put the EQ aside, how do you like this compressor? For my ears it does not add character as maybe some dbx160, or the real ISA hardware compressor.
@ZozillaThaGreat5 жыл бұрын
Hey Bojan , well , compressor in Channel strips , usually i use them to solve issues, and here to master the dynamic or via sidechain resonant stuff or boxiness / bad or not enouth transients ect .... Groovy / caracter / ballsy compression is taking place usually on my busses giving the groove the whole thing as an homogenous choregraphy ;)

Plugin Alliance and brainworx plugins are very great plugins but I'm kind of disappointed in plugin Alliance because they were supposed to promise DSP plug-ins versions so people with waves soundgrid digigrid interfaces and they were supposed to be part of that they started making DSP plug-ins but then they stopped what does it make any sense because it's open source coding available to any plug-in manufacturer I don't know why they're not implementing it but I will buy all plugin Alliance plugins if they were all DSP but I don't know what happened
