big nerd reporting in, the ampeg ss/vhc140/150c were used by the already mentioned suffocation and dying fetus but ALSO by assuck, combatwoundedveteran and in a few early shows by discordance axis, cannibal (specifically jack owen) use the crate gx130c which is essentially the same amp (i happen to own both and the crate is a bit more scooped and darker than the ampeg, your milage may vary) the early cannibal recording at morrisound are mostly likely blends of the crate gx130c and the marshall vs100, so with the misanthrope and the martyr you can probably really nail that old cannibal sound.

It's crazy how much things have come full circle with metal guitar tone. Our other guitarist was using a VH140c (that ironically was owned by our bassist) and that thing just absolutely shredded our faces off and was a nice counterpoint to my Valvestate. Over the last 20 years guitar tone in general has improved so much to where these IR plugins sound amazing, yet, these pedals are now coming out to emulate all the old amps like the Valvestate and the Ampeg. I guess everything old is new again, as the saying goes

Sims can't replicate that VH-140/GX-140 tone. Especially cab IRs. Those old SLM cabs mated with those heads are their own thing. It's unique. Even my Randall solid state doesn't quite get there. I found that with a neutral speaker like an Eminence EM12 Legend the Randall can get close, but not quite. There's magic in that old Ampeg/Crate circuit. (I own an original GX-140C head and matching cabinets. Also own the GX-2200, which is the 220 watt version. Along with my RG3003 Randall stack, I can A/B them to compare and mix and match cabs.)

This heavy earth also makes a pedal similar to this called Fresh Rot. Cool pedal

Master effects look to have their head in the game with these pedals. Sound for lack of better word seemed crispy in the mix to me , I liked it....kinda. I think the overall Mix made it !

Nailed the tone so well, one might as well think it's a cut track from War of Attrition by Dying Fetus.

Tasty pedal! You had me after about 0.8 seconds of those riffs!

These things (and the Ampeg Vh-140/Crate GX-140) really like a neutral speaker like the original F.S.T. produced under contract to Saint Louis Music for Ampeg and Crate. Those are hard to find anymore, but Eminence makes one well-suited called the EM12 Legend which is 200 watts at 8ohms. Quite a bit more than the old 40watt 4ohm F.S.T.s that SLM loaded cabs with. Solid state heads love neutral speakers.

How would you compare this to the SNK VHD?
@MetalHeadProductions2 жыл бұрын
The snk vhd is the most 1/1 for the vh140c. The vhd is Scott's baby he really nailed it. This works better as a distortion into a clean channel, and the vhd is better as a preamp into a power section. I will be comparing those two, and two other vh140c style pedals soon, I'm just waiting on one more pedal to get to me.

can you post a tab of the song you were playing? It looks like a great exercise for me to use for improving my guitar playing skills. Thanks!

I'd have to tab it out. Not sure I have the time ATM, but I may end up doing that if I get enough people wanting to learn my music

@@MetalHeadProductions do you have your IR available that you used on this track? I have a York Audio DV77 IRs, but they don't sound as good as this one. Thx!

@@jacekfz99 mine is a blend of my dv77 and vm1265. I don't have it available because it's two separate IRs Ive just blended in my captorx, but maybe I should look into making that an IR available for people.

Does the VHD require running Through the effects loop of an amp? Or can it run straight in
@DirtyDemos Жыл бұрын
@@big_hat_logan doesn't require it by any means, but I prefer it that way for sure.

You got the bass on zero and the high on ten. A bought an Amp Tweaker Tight Metal in the pursuit of the VH-140c tone. And I found that into the effects return, into a power amp I had the same experience. Way too much bass. But into the clean channel of a Marshall 8100 it's perfect with all knobs (except the Tight knob) at noon. Maybe try it into the front end of a clean amp if you haven't yet. *Edit* This guy had the same experience... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH_GkpenbZefa80

Yeah this is better as a distortion. I have demoed some other vh140c preamps since this and I'll be comparing them all together fairly soon, just waiting on one more pedal.
