I am past the point of trouble shooting brake wiring this days, as I am too old..... if there is an issue..... I just yank all of it off, and install a new kit and that solves having any issues for years, until you loan the trailer out to a best friend you didn't know you had, that naturally has the ability to screw it up while in transit to return your trailer back to you....

@WhyIsTheCouchWet4 жыл бұрын
There's a pretty simple reason for this happening and honestly it's one of the most common reasons for trailer failures of all kind. Luckily there's a simple fix. You made the mistake of taking your eyes off the trailer for a period of longer than 2 seconds. If you can manage to not do this, you stand to get a solid 5-10% fewer trailer failures.

Good old bearing buddies, great for the bearings and for greasing up your linings. The only grease I put in trailer bearings is put there with the palm of my hand. You really should get in there and clean things up now and again. Never sneeze on the adjusters, lube the pivots, and the backing plates, new seal and a proper adjustment. Looked like the outline of a famous cartoon mouse with big ears, but it was early in the day and my brain was still above the belt line. A few hours later might have been different. Been there, done that with trailer wiring, but wasn't the kind of problem you had. The wiring for the lights, including required running lights, was complete spaghetti bowl chaos. The trailer was a friend's and had been through two prior owners who kludged things together with no consideration of best practices for durability or reliability - and left behind all sorts of abandoned wire runs with splices everywhere using different colors, adding to the ambiguity. Getting the lights legal again on the side of the road - at night - was a challenge. At the earliest opportunity at his home we chopped out all the abandoned runs and re-ran proper wiring through the proper wiring races.
