I just bought the new model yesterday. I do appreciate your time and effort in making this video! So far, I like it. The absence of a extension cord jack does not matter to me. I guess Dewalt figures that the customers that buy these, probably have a few batteries. What matters to me most is portability AND ability to resist a rain shower. I’ll be using mine outside on the patio cooking out. I bought mine at Home Depot for about $100.

I just bought the DCE512B fan today (8/14/24), and the "knock out" is gone as well. I actually don't care about the 120v plug not being in it because I will use this fan for creating a breeze on me when doing mobile ham radio stuff in my p/u. I bought this fan BECAUSE it's cordless. My truck is a diesel and you're not supposed to idle diesels for long periods of time. So far, with today's truck test, I'm happy with this fan. It will never see a construction site (unless I drive by one). Your vid is interesting, especially the "fresh water washdown" at the end. 🤣

I got the newer one and it was a tough decision. One thing is the old one is harder to find now, costs more and doesn't come with the battery. I love the fact the older version has an A/C adapter, but the new one is more powerful and you can always get a plug in fan if your near an outlet. I've got multiple batteries, so the drain isn't much of an issue for me. The other slight negative on the older one is you can't charge the battery if it's plugged in. I don't usually use it on full speed, but it's nice to know I have the option. It's a tough call either way. Great review.

GREAT information and even BETTER PRESENTATION!!! WOW!!! That is so unlike DeWalt. I bought my hybrid fan 3 months ago with a free battery. My reason is different...The heat index was 110 degrees here yesterday and is 110 degrees again today. I have some massive output fans for that. I bought the Dewalt fan because I live in hurricane country. You can use a generator (and use very little electricity) or the battery to run this fan after a hurricane or anything else knocks out your power. The battery also makes the fan very mobile. So, I need the hybrid. Thanks for the info...

How do you have the 15AH battery already can you send me a link where I can get my own I’ve been looking everywhere
@carterscustomrods3 жыл бұрын
The 15ah were around for a while, but everyone is sold out online and in my local area that I consider credible. Supposedly, it's a similar situation to their warranty issues they had, where the bad batches of 5ah batteries from 2019/2020/2021 had a 6 month backorder due to the lack of availability for their cells. (They will tell you it's a wait list, but it's not hard to convince them to send you a replacement... but the replacement is of the same batch lmao... ugh... ) Dewalt was 90% of my tool lineup until mid-2020. Now, I'm only 10-15% Dewalt. It broke my heart to see how they started to take that all too familiar path that so many companies take. The path where once their sales hit record numbers and exceed their estimates, they then bring out cheapened versions of tools, (some will be the same model number, but a different 'type number') and sling our lower quality with impossible to achieve claims based upon copying other tools concepts. Next thing you know, Dewalt has become a Ryobi quality tier. Can you tell I'm bitter about this??? Lol. Fookin' Stanley Black and Decker!!! Bastards! Luckily if this didn't happen, I'd never have given Bosch a 2nd look. I'd have just used Makitas and called it a day. But Bosch has jumped way ahead in quality and ingenuity since they went from the worst 18v battery, to the best 18v battery. I mean, Bosch's batteries used to be so bad, and tools so creative that other companies copied the 💩 out I'd their tools. Come next year, or 2023 at the latest, Bosch will take the throne for cordless tools. They're actually listening to people... weird, right? So keep an eye out. Their profactor line is really beyond everything that is below Festool levels. I've been ridiculously impressed since I got on their platform. And next year, they will be releasing tools that will make people think "Why has that not always been done that way???" I'm Mr Carter, and thanks for coming to my TedTalk 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

@@carterscustomrods hey Mr Carter I currently own a Dewalt Skilsaw , sawzall, and a grinder all 60v with 9ah flexvolt battery. I was looking to grab a 15ah battery because my grinder eats through the 9ah battery pretty quickly.
@carterscustomrods3 жыл бұрын
@Alfred Lopez sadly, that's the grinder game... an angle grinder should automatically come with a backpack style battery giving 100ah lol. They will all eat the juice from a battery in record time. To be honest, I don't know what tasks you are doing, but is a 60v a necessity? I mean, a 15ah at 60v will be equal to a 20v with a 5ah battery. And a 5ah with 20v is like 20 minutes of super heavy grinding. However, the 9ah with a 20v xr will go almost twice as far. So unless you are using it to cut through 2in rebar or grinding railroad tracks into knife blades, you might want to consider a 20v grinder? I know myself, and others were duped by ghe Flexvolts when they first came out (and not just how every battery was a dud with the first run lol). We all thought "A 6ah, at 60v wow!!" But we did not read the fine print to see that at 60v, it was a 2ah battery. So every flexvolt we'd use would burn through those 6ah in no time. So for angle grinders, if using it a lot, you will want several batteries... like 6 of them... and have them cycling on a fast charger. Because even a 15ah will likely not be near enough and considering its only 1ah (at 60v) stringer then the 12ah, I cannot justify the price and weight difference. So I'd rather wait until the 12ah goes on sale, and get a couple of those.

I really appreciate the time you took to make this review. I was not terribly disappointed to see the power plug go as I’d likely never use it (though having the option would be nice). Good review man👍 I gotta agree the removal of the plug was a big miss. I use mine all the time plugged in at the house and then with batteries when im out working or camping and dont have access to electricity. Its nice to have one versatile fan that saves me from wasting battery cycles by plugging it in when I can. Im a Dewalt platform guy and Dewalt tools do serve me well professionally. Im guessing that the feature removal is probably typical cost cutting by the bean counters to keep a unit at a price point while still maintaining profit margin with the increasing costs of manufacturing. So many companies do it unfortunately when they focus too much on price point and not enough on the products consumer desired capability.

3:07 The last thing I would want on such a small and portable fan is an extension cord being connect to it. I've got five different 120v fans around the shop and office and the little DCE512 goes everywhere while the 120v fans stay put. Also, doubt I will miss the threaded pod mounts as the last thing I need is a fan going nuts on a tripod. Hey Jim, is that a plastic or metal blade? I have the older version so I can use one over the other. The tripod mount is not used. The AC feature is useful. I like the CFM of the new one. For less features but a slight cfm increase.... The new model better drop in real price very quickly and lower than $60. You'd have to compare it to other units that have the AC features for that price. Those are, Ridgid and especially Ryobi.

@stevebabiak69972 жыл бұрын
@@Runescape. - the current draw is high, and a wall wart supply won’t deliver high currents. Having said that, there are power supplies that are capable of delivering high currents. Those power supplies certainly won’t be as compact as a wall wart. And even with one of those high current power supplies, some tools will have a high surge current that might exceed what a power supply might deliver. So such a set up can’t be expected to run 100% of tools; but it’s possible to run some tools in this manner.

@@Runescape. A few people have modified dead 18V batts with small benchtop power supplies to make AC adapters, and other than the bulk that comes from being a DIY solution, they work really well.
@tsl78815 ай бұрын
Inside the 511 is a wall wart, milwaukee has theirs outside. Current draw from this fan is relatively low and predictable, just like a light, but a power tool can request dozens of amps from a battery. Who would stop you from using an adapter for a fan on a tool and burn one or the other up? A high current adapter gets expensive.
