Why are Ridgid tools not tested? They are widely available (and have been for a long time), are better than DeWalt and are directly comparable to Milwaukee.

Love my XDT14, IMO makita has the best feeling impact on the market. This is also coming from a Milwaukee fan boy. Yes there are others (Milwaukee, flex, and dewalt) who are faster but do not feel near as smooth and comfortable as the Makita. Glad to see the older XDT14 runs just as good if not better than the newer ones.

The more skilled you are the less tools you need ?? Really? A Skilled Tradesman needs the tools he or she needs to do the job effectively and efficiently period. The less amount of tools owned has nothing to do with your skill. It has to more to do with getting the job done, finished on time or sooner. And working smarter means using the necessary tools, the right amount to complete the job.

UPDATE: Since this video was published, the US market version of the TD173d has been released: the XDT20. In my past experience with comparing Japan market to US Market impact drivers from Makita (and, incidentally, Hikoki/Metabo HPT), there's not usually a discernable difference.

@@PhillyFixed So, i forgot to mention i have nver drilled anything before. When you say "a little bit longer"... like drilling 1 hole I imagine would take like 6-7 seconds in to that, no? Maybe a much more powerful drill, would take 3 seconds? Is that what you mean? and to be honest, I won't purchase lube if that changes your answer at all.

I find it impossible to change my Makita 5ah lxt tool platform. Makita Rear handle saw with 2 18v 5AH batteries and a double charger $400 cad. That added more batteries and another double charger to everything I already have. As for shop vacs, miter saws and all the other 40v stuff i can't get in an 18v setup i got a generator to run my corded tools and when it comes to lawn tools I like firing up the old gas powered everything.

Well, this is not a new video, but I have recently gotten a DCD800 and it's doing something very strange. When I pull the trigger and then let off, it makes a sound like gears slamming together. This especially happens on high speed. Then, when this slamming occurs, the drill stops so suddenly, from high speed, that the chuck is thrown open and your bit falls out. I immediately returned the first unit to Amazon for a replacement. 2nd unit did the same thing. Sent that one in for warranty repair. Got it back - still does the same thing. Am sending it for warranty repair again. They say it is just a "braking function" and that I am just not tightening the chuck enough. Nonsense!

All power tool manufacturers take the public for suckers, they offer a leader price on the tools then stick it to you with their over priced batteries and chargers. They learned how to milk us like the inkjet- printer producers did with having to buy replacement ink. A con all the way around.

@ScottBionicBlasters
@ScottBionicBlasters 23 күн бұрын
I realize there are people out there who will use 1/4" hex just about everything. These same guys will take a brand new tool of whatever brand/model they've gotten their fingers calibrated too, build 3 or 4 houses with it, then get ride of it. They charge a brand new ser of tools out for every job cause they're hard as hell on them. I'm not leaving this comment for their sakes. If I were in their place, I might do the same. However, I'm a mechanic. That ain't how I roll. I'm a proper tool for the proper job. If I need a 3/8" or a 1/2" impact, that's what I use. I work with a couple boys that have DeWalts they've been beating on for 8 yrs or more. One of them is an 885 that's been run over twice, and is on it's 6th trip back from hell, and will be headed back on a return trip if it keeps up. He also has a newer brushless model, I think the short fat one, forgot the model#.

I have the older 2800A dewalt model. 5 years old. The compressor started to make noise and fail to reach pressure. The batteries are also now worn out. I took the unit apart and discovered the compressor cylinder head bolts were loose… easy fix, and… the batteries are standard electric scooter batteries available on Amazon which I have ordered. But… please note that the internals on these dewalts are what I would describe as cheap china crap. I would love to replace the compressor cylinder seals but unfortunately I was unable to find parts for the compressor. Knowing what I know now I think it is better to get a separate compressor and a separate booster and a separate battery power station. Or… get the booster and compressor combo then a separate power station. All in one has its appeal but lead acid batteries though great for boosting are crappy for AC/DC power supply compared to LiFePO4 and LiFePO4 batteries are not appropriate for boosting. The compressors in these things are so gosh darn convenient that you end up using them a lot… but… they are cheap flimsy things not designed for a big duty cycle so they do not last for more than a few years at best then if you want to service it parts are difficult or impossible to find. So… if you want to get into having one of these all in one booster compressor batteries you will be happy with the convenience of it but be advised that you really ought to accept having to replace it every 3-5 years.
