I somehow figured they would use the A17 pro. Wish they did the A18. Im fine with the other specs. Im not happy about the price though. For all of the lower specs, Id expect it to be $400. I will buy one as companion device mostly for teams and zoom, but it is pricey.

@@JonAdamsTech I guess it always goes back to depending on what personal uses are and what your needs are. I left a 12.9 pro iPad to a 13 in air now I’m 11in air and adore it lol. I’m not an artist or a gamer though, just like to daily plan, digital memory keeping like fun on some of the creative apps and watch videos here and there

Surprised there's no A18 and landscape camera. We're never getting ProMotion on the mini but a brightness increase to 600 nits would have been nice. Hope the jelly scrolling is fixed.

Yea we were just talkin about the new Mini 7 and here it is with some minor updates and changes. Nothin too heavy. As a Mini user I’m goin to upgrade but I get it if other don’t because they won’t see a difference.

Someone did note as well the iPad mini’s A17 Pro is actually a binned variant with 1 less gpu core compared to the iPhone 15 Pros (those had 6 gpu cores). Kind of strange they didnt use the A18 but who knows.

I think I'm going to pre-order. I have a mini 6 but it only has 64g of storage and I'm almost at capacity, so that's the main reason for me to upgrade. I don't think the updates are life changing but they are good. If my storage wasn't nearly full, literally at 62g right now, I probably wound't bother upgrading. Well I take back all that I just typed. After looking on the Apple website and comparing the mini 6 with the mini A17 Pro (that's what they are calling the new model), honestly there just isn't enough different about the two to "upgrade" right now. I don't care about AI features, so that and the difference between the A15 chip and A17pro just aren't that big a deal. I like the ability to use pencil pro (which I just bought to go with my new iPad Air), but again, just not that big of a deal for me. I love my iPad mini to just throw it in my purse and go. Give me a week, I may change my mind and order the new one! LOL

That chip is going to open AAA game titles such as they are for ipad mini. And with the new razor ultra controller it can be a good had held option for playing resident evil or assassin’s creed hand held or do some other work or media consumption. While I do agree the display could have used a bump they doubled base storage and the processor without a price bump. This tablet will sell like crazy. Preordering mine now.

@@JonAdamsTech I highly recommend the razor kishi ultra controller I love mine with the mini 6. To my knowledge it is the only controller that can fit an ipad mini in the center

I have the Mini 6 256 gig. The upgrades are just not enough to warrant spending $500 , then add the additional $139 for the pencil. I’m not an artist so the current pencil works well for me. However , if you are someone with the Mini 5 or earlier then I feel it would be worth the upgrade . As far as my needs are concerned the Mini 7 can’t do anything that I can already do on my Mini 6.

You can! Get one from e bay so you don't pay the Apple tax. Bought the burnt orange one new for 25.00 yesterday as soon as it was confirmed. They will hike the prices up once they realize they can be used on the 7!

I kinda feel for Apples marketing teams that have to somehow gloss over selling the EXACT same products year after. Perhaps the only good thing to come from this spec bump, is it will lower cost of the 6 which is already more than capable of the tasks it was designed for. If Apple were really invested in the mini, they'd be throwing in an M series,giving us a screen refresh & a boost to the battery.

I wouldn't call it a "bad" update. Got to assume jelly scroll is fixed. That with an A17 chip and increased base storage, it's decent. I think so many of these devices are nearing perfection that it's hard to expect life changing upgrades these days. If you're selling your mini 6, let me know! Might be interested in that.

pretty lackluster. very glad they did release it without the event. They did upgrade base storage to 128gb. I think you're right - the sales aren't as high as we (on KZbin) believe they are. Apple have lost the plot ! This is the Tim Cook way , squeezing every ounce out of existing products until Apple is left with no choice but to innovate /upgrade to anything that adds cost. It’s going to bite them eventually , just like the AI thing did. As an Apple user and a fan of them in general , I’m very concerned about the trajectory they are on.

As a product manager in tech myself , this Tim Cook roadmap strategy is commendable and efficient from an economic standpoint in the short term but at the same time it is a hindrance to innovation that may bite them at some point. Worst of all , their practices on several fronts have left many to wonder , does Apple actually really love its own customers ? It’s debatable that’s for sure.

Apple takes "underwhelming" to new heights! Originally got my Mini 6 because I wanted something more than a Kindle without being too large. I have a few creative apps. I am happy with the Mini 6 overall... just haven't found a keyboard option I adore. Is the Pencil Pro compatible with the Mini 6? Otherwise, the only new feature I would use on the Mini 7 is Apple Intelligence... to scour the internet for news articles and updates on the iPad Mini 8.

What Im okay with: - 8 GB RAM - 128GB Base Storage - Bluetooth 5.3 - Wifi 6E - A17 Pro chip What I'm disappointed with: - binned A17 Pro (I mean, come on-- the iPad mini's form factor can definitely maximize the potential of the A17 Pro better than the iPhone Pro) - Apple Pencil Pro- only compatibility (Seriously, Apple?! you're forcefully pairing a Pro pencil to a non-pro device?) - Same brightness as Mini 6 - No Face ID (having used an iPhone and a Mini 6, Face ID is way more covenient) - No guarantee of the Jelly Scroll fix It's an "okay" upgrade to me-- a C+ to B grade. I personally was not expecting pro-level upgrades to this because I already expected Apple to reserve those for the Pro line (120hz, oled screen) plus, it will cannibalize sales of the Pro and Air lines. Should you buy it? - For more "power-oriented" users who prefer this form factor over 11-inch and understand the limitations of this product such as artists, sound guys, vloggers-- yes, I think they will benefit from the extra muscle that 8GB RAM and A17 Pro chip gives. It should be significantly better than the Mini 6. - Casual users who's looking into a new iPad-- sure. the 8GB Ram and 128 storage will keep your iPad going for quite some time. - Casual users who have the Mini 6-- probably not. The Mini 6 is still snappy. I also doubt you'll miss out on having AI.

@@JonAdamsTech Probably. It kinda seems like the mini and the regular iPads are the dumping grounds for the surplus chips. But from a user standpoint-- I doubt anyone will feel a big difference unless they're forcing to use complex tasks on these.

So.. looking at the specs, the only major upgrade is just the chip... and it's been 3-4 years since they had a new one right..? I mean price wise is the same as before so not too much complainants but I guess they could at least do like 1-2 more new function.. On the website it also says A17 mini, rather than 7th gen, just hope that once i got this one, they don't release another crazy new one next year...

I have an iPad mini 5th generation which I bought back in 2019 and I use it mainly for gaming but the battery drains really quickly and it over heats as well. So I was going to get the 6th gen in 256 gb, but seeing as the 7th gen comes in 128 gb I will probably get that if they are a similar price.

No A18 I guess... One more year obsolete and lesser than the latest iPhones, not only that but a binned down version of the A17 with one less gpu core. They copy and pasted the iPad Air colors. Don't get me wrong, it's probably still gonna end up being a decent overall device but kind of lame upgrade for a 3 year wait.

The iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max will get Apple Intelligence. 8GB RAM is a minimum requirement for Apple Intelligence which is why the base iPhone 15 / 15 Plus won't get it. The latter only have 4GB or 6GB of RAM.

@@JonAdamsTech As long as I can plug my 1TB SSD into it to watch movies I’m not too fussed about docking capabilities, I’m moving down in size from the 2018 iPad Pro 11 so I know what I need, basic Word and spreadsheet and entertainment stuff. The 128GB will be for apps and my MP3 collection, I haven’t even remotely utilised the capabilities of my Pro.
