I totally did the opposite. Went to MX once for 2 weeks, went back for 3 weeks a couple of months later and bought a house, closed on the house 4 months later, and within 5 months sold or gave away everything I owned and moved to Mexico. Virtually no planning involved. When I make decisions sometimes I just jump off that cliff and never look back. Now here for 7 months and couldn't be happier with the house, the neighborhood, my nieghbors, the geographical area, and the climate.

Thanks Brenda. We left it at the border and boy are we glad that we did. It is such a relief not having people yell over top of each other and think they are having a conversation. That is the part that was starting to drive us nuts. People are entitled to have different views and that doesn't make them evil, stupid or hateful. They have lived a life that has lead them to these beliefs and if one took the time one may find that there is validity in what they have to say. That requires listening and actually engaging in conversation. That is totally lost in the tribalized US. OH Well, time to get off the soapbox. Thanks you for watching Brenda.

I went to Mexico and I loved it. As you mentioned people in the USA are not talking to each other/ Neighbors do not greet each other/ very rare I see that. And the longer that we are down here in Mexico, the more we realize how unhospitable most of the US has become. It is a shame, but until people wake up and start to be civil to one another, I fear that it is on a road that leads to bigger problems. It starts in Washington, when the leaders of the country show civility, people will follow. It has not been evident for many years and people have taken their cue from them. Glad that is a problem that is no longer ours to worry about!

We moved to Mexico in 2022. We purchased a beautiful, 4/4 home near Cuernavaca, and we have never been happier or more relaxed. We didn’t want to live in an expat area because those areas are pricier and too catering to "Gringos". I am forced to learn Spanish, which at near 70 years of age is not so easy, but people are kind and patient with me. My husband is from Mexico but has been a U.S. citizen for 25 years. When we were married 23 years ago, we traveled to Mexico to see his family, and I fell in love with Mexico. We returned almost every winter to spend time traveling all over Mexico, and I realized that Mexico was where I wanted to live for the remainder of my life, so here we are. Best decision I ever made.

We are constantly meeting new and wonderful people everywhere that we go. And yes, so far, we are finding the same thing to be true regarding living in an area with a high concentration of Gringos just doesn't feel as comfortable. @@GringosRUs that's a deal 🤝 First we thought of Chapala area, not Ajijic... Too darn crowd, some entitled expats and the infrastructure sounds like is getting too critical regarding sustainability ( according to Lake Chapala Society's KZbin reports, and several comments from the locals; this trend seems to be spreading towards Jocotepec, Chapala city , San Antonio Tlayacapan. We will be visiting there BUT to check out the towns further towards the East side of the lake and up north towards Puerto Vallarta (far from the coast... Heat and I no longer get along. Got good information from Access Chapala Real Estate agency's talked personally with them and we will see what they know about the near areas of Guadalajara/Puerto Vallarta/Chapala.... "Juntos pero no revueltos" ( together but not mixed up) an old Mexican saying... 😂 We prefer quiet and easy going place to spend the rest of our days staring at each other and see who goes first.... LoL 😂😂😂😂

@GringosRUs Жыл бұрын
@@Dragon-kf5sb We are also doing the Jocotepec, Ajijic and Chapala run at some point. The longer we are in the country, the less enthused I feel about Ajijic. When we were doing the planning stages, it was very high on the list, but in watching other KZbinrs, it has lost a little of the luster for me anyway. If we were a little down on SMA due to the increased Gringo presence, I have a fear that Ajijic will be the same. Plus there is the traffic issue and that is not something that can readily be fixed as the layout really dictates the road possibilities. One of the things that we are doing is trying each location at it's worst time of the year if possible. Like Merida in the heat of the summer. Everyone says how hot it is there, well, if we love it then, we will definitely love it in the winter. We just don't want to be guilty of not totally knowing what we are getting ourselves into. If we start melting on our videos or resort to doing them only inside, then that will be a good indicator. You do sound a lot like us, looking for that right location. It looks good on the map, but until you try it you don't know. Hence our 4 year tour around Mexico seeing all the potential landing spots. If it's a staring contest at the end, I am toast. LOL

Mark sir, Gina ma’am, I wish you the best on your adventure to 30 locations. I will watch and wish you good health and plenty of remote work to keep you motivated. Mark sir, I take it you were primarily into film. If you did digital, would you still pick up work and if so, what kind of work can a digital photographer do in Mexico? Asking for myself one day/some day.

Thank you for those kind words. I did eventually switch over to digital when the economics basically mandated it. When it was a dollar for every time one pressed the shutter button, it did not take much to convince me to make the switch. I got rid of all my gear when we came down here, no room in the car, and besides, I am retired. I do think that a good photographer could do well down here. Between shooting good shots for real estate and AirBnb's and then the never ending supply of nature and candid life in the streets. It all depends upon where you would want to settle in to.

That was a huge chore and we really wish we had had more time to accomplish it. But start writing your plans down and refining them and then before you know it, it will be time to move to Mexico. I do recommend that if you are able to get your residency in 2023 to do so. That way you get the rates before they go up yet again. The biggest savings that we are realizing, financially speaking, is in the ancillary items. Pharmacies, mercados, and gas. Yes, gas is more expensive here, but we don't drive like we did in the US. It was always in the car we would go, here, there and everywhere. Down here, we walk a lot more. The hardest part is in making the decision to pull the trigger, so to speak, on making such a life altering move. We took some time to come to the decision, but we are so glad that we did. We are now in our 12th city of our tour to find our retirement home. The people here in Mexico have made us feel so welcome and we just continue to live our dream every day. We have about 10 or 12 more cities to go before we make our final determination, but it will definitely be here in Mexico. All we can say is "come on down, the weather and people are both warm and inviting!"

Go ahead, you will thank yourself for doing it. We have been here now for almost two years and totally love the whole experience. The people are so warm and friendly. We have now been to over 12 different cities and the one constant is the fantastic residents of this wonderful country. Is it all perfect here? No, but it is a lot better than what we left.
