Finally! A sane take on this brand. I thought I was the only one who loves some of their products but was still critical of Drunk Elephants views towards customer service and their constant mantra about "the suspicious six" (among few other things). Thank you Mrs Hirons! Much appreciated.

I am incredibly disappointed in the UK price. When other brands have come to Europe the prices have been adjusted accordingly, but The Littles, for example, is 90 USD in Sephora and 90 quid in Cult Beauty! Like, what the hell? We're talking about 7 minis here, people. 90 USD is bad enough (specially when you take into account that in the new kits a full size product plus 4 minis only costs 8 dollars more than the regular price), but 90 quid is unacceptable. I was so excited for this launch and I thought that The Littles would be a great way to try the brand, but I'm afraid I'll have to wait until they reconsider the price or there is some sort of sale.

I was lucky enough to go to the US recently and bought the Little Ones. It cost me £73 when converted, that’s a big difference. Very sad as I was looking forward to being able to buy in the UK but think it’s too expensive to justify. Think there are better products that cost the same or less.

Thank you Caroline for speaking truthfully. I have used only Drunk Elephant for 3 years, I purchased their Beste cleanser twice, Protini twice, two editions of their minis set, and EVERY product they released (except their hair/body line that is not worth buying) Truthfully they only have a few products that are good but rather just OKAY good (beste, protini, slaai, b-hydra) (and tango/baby facial was okay for a short time) EVERYTHING ELSE from DE had to be returned after extensive time of using it. I have clear skin and often get asked what I recommend and would often suggest DE (but always only those few products that work and in the smaller sets so they could test it out as I know not everything works the same on each individuals skin) I even got a DE hoodie as a gift.. Point blank I no longer use DE I am in the processing of selling all I have from them (unused or barely used ofc) their ‘customer service’ ARROGANCE towards many others is a shame and only a few of their products are decent so you’re paying too much for skincare that can be found at a much lower price and better quality anyways both of product and customer service. Glad I quit DE I no longer recommend it to anyone unless you want to be a poser and have it to show off the packaging procession on your social media’s regardless your just loosing buying from DE.. I liked the idea of supporting elephants but rather they forget they were in the market to support people. Tiffany is also just okay she’s more into pretty looking skincare and having people fear things they shouldn’t to sell products that aren’t pretty for you.

Drunk elephants vitamin c ferulic acid bottle has a big design flaw regarding the bottle. It's not designed to pump all the product up. It works great until you get down to a certain level of product. About a half inch is left in the insert sleeve inside the outer bottle. I proved this after I was suspicious serum was still in the chamber. It was not due to being screwed in enough but has to do with the chamber shaft not designed to work the whole chamber to utilize and dispense all the product. Most consumers would assume they used all the product and toss in trash. Its easy to prove by disassembling the bottle and seeing all the serum left in the sleeve

Silicones have no positive impact on your skin, and brands use it because it's cheap. Most skincare items have silicones and fragrance and I personally find that even more annoying than DE
@gafhadly4616
@gafhadly4616 6 жыл бұрын
Dora g Where are you getting your information from? Silicones help with penetration and delivery of other ingredients and also prevent trans epidermal water loss by creating a barrier that is still permeable (unlike oils, etc). This is especially helpful for dehydrated skins. On a cosmetic level they can help make the skin feel more smooth by filling in pores and so make up goes on much better - very helpful for oily skins whose makeup starts running as soon as they get excessively shiny.

Gaf Hadly, not everyone can tolerate silicones. I've had to cut out dimethicone because it gives me horrible cystic acne. It's taking me over 20+ years to stop my cystic acne and I'm in my early 40s. Everyone's skin is different and mine hates silicones.
@HM-pw8it
@HM-pw8it 6 жыл бұрын
Some people just don’t do well with silicone. It can suffocate your skin just like mineral oil. It really depends on how your body reacts to the ingredient. I wanted to love La Mer but because of the mineral oil and use of cones I cannot. I get terrible cystic acne whenever I use it. However I have friends with perfect skin that swear by La Mer and use silicone based primers everyday. It’s hard to find a brand without silicone in it (because most people are not allergic or sensitive) so it’s nice to have this option!

Remember the good old days when you could say you didn't care for a brand and it wasn't a political statement or a declaration of your religious affiliation. It might have died out when today's 15 year olds started saying they didn't know what a landline was (RIP the phone cord) but it has me feeling nostalgic. As Nadine Baggott said in her last video, it's an exciting time for skincare and there is so much to choose from with new things launching every day. The brand overview is both thoughtful and thorough (as it always is) and I'm sure those recommended products are great. I think customer service is a big deal whether on the shop floor or online and as crowded as the market place is today it can go a long way in being a brand's point of difference and the reason a customer is a repeat one in spite of equally great products being available. Btw loving the Scamp and Dude jumper and shame on Next for stealing the design.

I recall last year getting into a debate with whoever ran the drunk elephant Instagram page. I saw them telling some woman that her skin issues would go away when she stayed away from the suspicious 6. So I told the woman to take that statement with a grain of salt, because nothing is guaranteed with your skin. Your skin doesn’t have to behave because you avoid certain ingredients. Drunk Elephant completely took that as an attack. I had to explain that I wasn’t trying to be rude, but you can’t just tell people once they stop using the suspicious 6 that all their skin issues will vanish. I do stan Drunk Elephant, and they are my favorite skincare brand, because I truly trust the ingredients they use 100%. And while I do understand that illuminating the suspicious 6 won’t cure all, I am still against those ingredients. However, I do wish they represented themselves in a way that made them look less ignorant as a brand. I do love the owner and think she’s a great woman, but the staff needs to get checked, or she needs to check herself if she runs their Instagram. Also surprised to see all these comments saying they’re over priced, how y’all gonna drool over May Lindstrom then?!?!

No comment on DE pricing but as I understand it May Lindstrom is meticulous about ingredient sourcing and has a paper trail for everything she uses likely reflected in the pricing but it's also a part of the brand identity. It's talked about all the time I think that's why even if people can't afford them (myself included) they understand it. Possibly because DE started doing the rounds on youtube about the same time Glossier and Milk did they all sort of got lumped together by non-US viewers.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday! Doesn't it cost $800.00 to purchase complete line of May Lindstrom's product? My skin would have to look like it did when I was 20, and I am 66, after one use to justify buying her products!!

I absolutely love this woman. I am a broke-ass, low-income grad student who loves skincare. The Ordinary is my jam because of it. A friend got me items from this brand I wanted to try for ages (he had to do it because if he had just given my the money I would have saved it for food and bills, and he wanted to give me a treat). First, the products came dirty (as in, covered in a very fine layer of dust) I contacted the company, they told me it was ink residue. Fine. I let it go. And then I started using the vitamin c serum, that was basically coca-cola brown. They told me it was ok, that this was normal. Then they told me I waited too long to start using it. Their customer service is entitled and sucks! Please, please give us some alternatives and cheaper dupes.

Great review, Caroline. I had a reaction to the C-Firma Day serum - I stopped using it and skin returned to normal; waited some time and used it again (research :-) and same reaction - definitely the serum as everything else was maintained. The “suspicious six,” while their branding slogan goes a bit too far, as does their reactive, “it can’t be us” in terms of reaction. I do love their Marula oil and C-Tango eye cream - but not drinking the cool-aid! Thanks again, Caroline.

I cannot say enough good things about the vita c face serum, I get so many compliments on my skin and it pairs well with my Paula’s Choice routine. I agree with Caroline about the spf, it’s just not an elegant finish. OHMYGOD Thank You. You nailed this review. Thank you for saying their philosophy is crap- they make it so you think you can't wear makeup if you use their brand, yet say they'll never do makeup. Huh?? I have rosacea and none of their products will help that the way makeup can cover it. I have used DE for about two years and I love the marjula oil and the TLC. Lately I've also been loving Protini. I'm 24 but I have dry flaky texture, while still getting a bit oily throughout the day. I've found those products to work good for me, I've tried nearly all of their other products but haven't been wowed by those. Also thank you for saying that Beste isn't for makeup removal- they say it is but your skin will not get clean if you use it to remove makeup.

I totally agree with you on their marketing team issues, and that's coming from someone who loves the brand and recommends it all the time (I work at Sephora), BUT not all of their products work for everyone...I bought the whole range after the TLC serum worked wonders for my acne, and the vitamin C serum and baby facial just didn't work for me. My skin is way too sensitive for baby facial and I actually got a chemical burn on my face, and I only had it on for 10 minutes (the low end of the recommended time). The C-firma unsurprisingly didn't work for me either and broke me out terribly, and it's just because my skin, for whatever reason, doesn't like vitamin C serums! I've never had one from any brand that didn't break me out. I feel like you always hear such positive things about vitamin C for the skin, and it was Jordan Samuel who actually mentioned in one of his videos that it is a sensitizing ingredient to some skins and that completely resonated with me and made me feel not so crazy lol

Great review! I have sensitive skin with slight rosacea. I oil cleanse with either avocado, jojoba, or sweet almond oil. I use a .25 Retin A once or twice a week (for years. I'm 41.) and one pump of moisturizer (usually Clinique Dramatically Different b/c it doesn't break me out). I really like the Drunk Elephant Lala cream, but if I use even the slightest bit too much, it breaks me out. Purchased twice, but I it's so expensive I stopped. Then I bought the Protini and MY GOD MY EYES!!! Almost swelled shut. I have no idea which ingredient did that, but because I thought maybe I was stung or something, I used it the next night and the same thing happened immediately, plus my skin became extremely dry. P.S. I used this on a weekend when I didn't use any other makeup. I have also tried the tinted mineral sunscreen (Umbria) I received in a Sephora Play box and it was sooooo greasy. I'm scared to try anything else from them now.

I prefer SR Juno oil to the Marula. It's nice but it's not Juno. I wasn't a fan of the sun screen. Thank you for posting for the UK peeps who are just now getting proper access to Drunk Elephant! I am an unabashed Drunk Elephant girl and I really enjoyed your review. We have different favorites in the line, and that's perfectly wonderful. Lala Retro, Marula oil and TLC Framboos are my most loved, I did love the C-Firma but I'm trying other things now and maybe it's just a very high benchmark? I haven't really tried Protini or C-Tango... soon. Fortunately I don't follow them on social media so I wasn't aware of the cult-like 'suspicious six' dogma and customer experience with that. I will say that last year their holiday kits came in beautiful gift boxes without the brand stamped anywhere and I was able to reuse them, this year the packaging seem very silly and childish and I don't know why they would contribute to plastic waste like that... seems very contrary to their brand.

Hello from the US. Appreciate the thorough honest review. PR was well addressed. I’ve used a handful of their products. TLC Sukari Baby Facial is currently my favorite used in conjunction with their Marula Oil. Expensive like the rest of their products. However, using it only once per week justifies the cost. I’m 50 years old and the Protini Peptide isn’t moisturizing enough for me. Granted I live in a dry climate. Packaging of their products is genius. Wish other brands would dupe.

I have nothing but good things to say about Drunk Elephant. The C Firma has made me breakout if I use it every single day, but you really don't need to use it everyday to get outstanding results. When I use it 2-3 times per week I get the same brightening effect without the breakouts.The Sukari Baby Facial has greatly helped with my stubborn cystic acne! I use it 1-2 times per week (avoiding the eye area), I use it as needed but never more than twice per week. On days I use the baby facial, I avoid my daily acids like BR P50, dr dennis pads, TULA gylcolic resurfacing gel toner and the framboos that I like. You never want to over do it, but it works! In conjunction with a good SPF (Elta MD), it also has kept my crazy cheetah-like freckles under control.

Perfect review Caroline. You've done an excellent job of putting so many of my own thoughts about the brand into words. I tried the Little's as a way to introduce my skin to the brand and I think it's a great and convenient way to do so. I, like yourself, was completely blown away by the Marula oil. I can't say that about the full range of products. As you stated the company has some work to do with regards to it's social media platform, but, otherwise it's a pretty decent brand.

Great overview and totally agree with your take on their social media responses to customers. The line is expensive but having used many of DE products for 2 years now, my skin has never been better. I get compliments all the time on my (mature) skin and I’m wearing less and less makeup which I love! You need to be consistent and fight the urge to try every new skin product that is released which can be difficult. My skin routine is consistent and when I do want to try something new, I’ll do it one product type at a time and give it at least a month. My favorite DE products are the vit c eye cream, b-hydra serum, marula oil (refuse to live without), protini, and the baby facial which I only do 2wice a month in the fall-winter. I do not like the sunscreen and instead look for sunscreen with tinosorb m and s. I really appreciate your point of view and honesty. Thank you!

Thank you your honest review. While I was looking at the Drunk Elephant website a few months back, there is a link called "Don' t Blame it on the Elephant". It says to look elsewhere if you are having a problem with DE skincare, because the line is clean and all the ingredients were thoughtfully combined. After reading this, it really turned me off to the brand. I think anyone can have a reaction to anything, no matter how clean. Well done, Mrs. Hirons.

Hi Caroline! Thank you for another great video! I would LOVE to see a video/blog post about the ideal skincare routine and products to use for people in their early 20's who just started getting serious about taking good care of their skin. I don't trust anyone as much as I trust you! I get the feeling that brands tend to recommend skincare steps to follow that are perhaps "unnecessary" for us, that's a thought that has come to me since I started following you and watching your videos... Great review as usual. I use the Vit C every day and love that the package keeps the product from turning, since it's not exposed to air. The Pekee bar is my preference for a bath bar. Yes I'm mental about using a bar in the bathtub. I choose other cream/liquid cleansers for other times, go figure. The Lippee balm is a good one, but I wish they'd made it slimmer because when it's at the end it's hard to get the product out. Overall fabulous products, but I'm wondering if they're so expensive due to the airtight packaging?? ~Susanne xoxo

I tried the two cleansing bars and my skin suffered. I broke out so much and got irritated. I also purchased their sun screens both plain and tinted. I think it is too oily for humid summers. As a sufferer of adult acne, I am not sure if avoiding silicones is essential. I tried going silicone free and I did not see much of a difference.

Great review as usual thank you Caroline. I bought The Littles in the Summer for $90 and did the whole two week detox thing they tell you to do. Sorry not for me. I’m a normal girl who needs to wear some make up when I go to work so maybe the suspicious 6 in those didn’t work with the DE products but couldn’t get on with it. Worse spots for a really long time and couldn’t get on with the layering. Like the LaLa whipped moisturiser but haven’t used any others so feels a complete waste of money.

You need to try the d-bronzi bronzing anti pollution serum that is the best! It just tints everything, I use one pump of that, the c-firma and the b hydra and mix together and put on during the day. Works great and is much lower of a price tag than most of the other products. Also, the name came about because when an elephant eats a marula but, they act like they are “drunk” Also, I would love to know your thoughts on Erno Lazlo because my mother has always used it and the bar or soap. She’s been loyal for over 30 years and I would love to know your thoughts on a brand that influenced many iconic people, but also had a specific ritual of how to use each of the products. Please tell me wear your sweater is from??? Love it! 💕💕💕

Thanks for the frank and thorough review Caroline 😊🧡 I really like the C Tango eye cream and will probably repurchase. The C Firma serum and I didn't get along so well (I struggled to find a happy medium between having enough to cover my face and getting to the sticky stage) and although the B Hydra is nice there are less expensive options I prefer (Clinique!). Like all products it's definitely worth getting some samples before drinking the Koolaid and buying a full size.

I was really looking forward to trying some products from this range, but changed my mind when I saw the prices! I was going to try the mini collection, but it’s £90!!!!!Ouch, They’re too expensive for me, although I realise a lot of other people will happily pay £100’s of pounds for a skincare routine, especially when there’s so much media hype. Caroline, I’m very interested on your take on silicone in skincare as it relates to other ingredients within a product getting into the skin. I currently using a product my Paula’s choice... the antioxidant serum and it’s the one that has silicone in it. Are ingredients able to penetrate the skin effectively if there is a silicone in it? I always worry that it’s (silicone) inclusive and won’t allow the “good stuff” in the serum to get to my skin and absorb. I try very hard to buy skincare without silicones because I feel like it’s just there to make me think it’s making my skin feel amazing and it doesn’t do anything helpful. But I do feel like this serum is very helpful when my skin is pissed off because of my Retin A use. I really hope you can answer this. I’ve tried to get an answer to this for so long. I trust your answer.

I love a silicone personally, but in an expensive formula. For example, Dr Lens uses silicones across all his serums and they’re all clinically trialled and proven. Thicker silicones are horrible though. Feel suffocating. If the formula is light, you’re generally good to go.

I just recently discovered your channel, thank you love your videos. With that said, someone who has worked in retail over 30+ years, during the last few years have watched customers coming in and buying Drunk Elephant like it is God to them. It is funny even with the repeat purchases of Drunk Elephant products their skin looks horrible. When I ask people how long have they been using the products , their response is it is 3rd or 5th time buying it again. Even the employees who work for them don't have amazing skin. Also I do have serious doubts about how pure the Marula Oil actually is that is used in the products. I worked for a company who was the first to introduce Marula oil and also had factory in Africa and supported the families, women and their children. It was one of the cleanest and most natural ways of producing Marula oil. I remember my CEO getting an email from Drunk Elephant about purchasing whole sale Marula oil at the time because DE were worried some of oil they received wasn't the purest Marula or cold pressed. DE felt the pricing was too high and never purchased it from that company. Not a fan and will never support that brand.
