Caroline - my husband the other day said he wished there was a sunscreen he could spray on the top of his thinning hair that was a hair styling product plus SPF. What a brilliant idea! First off, you are SUPER generous for letting Ava use your Le Mer anything. My mother would've told me to go buy my own probably (if she had lux products to abscond with) lol Second of all, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful with the sunscreen sprays. My husband and attempted to use it on a windy day out on the beach and needless to say it was very hit or miss literally. We had some odd sunburn patches, so i would recommend maybe getting out of the wind (say a changing room) and spray it then.

Amazing and comprehensive (and fun) review Caroline. Thank you. I’m just back from Majorca and took Ultrasun SPF50+ extreme (amazing - have you tried that range?) and Evy Technology SPF 30 for Face (the one you have in your video). My partner and I loved them. I favoured the EVY foam because my partner is half Indian and has course thick body hair which is hard to adhere ‘typical’ spfs to as they all get stuck in his body hair (beard, chest, arms, legs, back etc). Before he met me (god love him) he only used those cheaper oils as they didn’t stick to the hair but we used EVY foam and he loved it. Great for guys with ethnicity or stubborn hairy areas. I’m a red headed guy from Belfast and always stay true to a minimum of 30, but mostly use spf50. Loved this video! Thank you 😊 ✔️

i love la roche-posay !! i usually travel exclusively with their skincare because it seems to be best at soothing and rebalancing skin undergoing extreme climate changes. i tend not to use my usual skincare when away, and extend the use of a very limited range of LRP products for about a week after i return, just to get my skin back on track and recognise it’s home. since last year i’ve used the huile nutritive confort spf 50 on holiday, and i’ve been using their posthelios after-sun for years. love them both ! the oil is lovely because it helps in preventing the skin from drying out and the smell is great too. sometimes i like their spray or milk meant for babies because that ensures high protection but also, products meant for young children tend to be sand-resistent too, which is always a good thing. some 20 years ago i used the sun range from shiseido - i have a soft spot for shiseido even though i don’t use their products anymore, because their skincare worked wonders on my teenage acne back in the day. i remember i had a burn once on my shoulders, and packed their after-sun face cream on - it recovered in less than 24 hours. amazing, and it also had a great scent. otherwise, i also love lancaster (tan maximiser !!!) but it’s no longer available here in singapore, and even though LRP is also not present in its entire range here, it’s way more accessible as a pharma brand and hence easier to request from friends - female AND male - who travel.

Caroline, last year I've discovered a Greek product, Frezyderm Velvet Technology SPF50, it has good (chemical) filters (like Tinosorb), no alcohol/perfume, and has the texture of a silicone primer - no oiliness, no white cast, nothing. That's all I have used last year and this year on my face, and it worked great in the Italian and Greek heat. I have extremely sensitive and dehydrated skin which is also prone to melasma, and I really like it and would recommend it to anyone looking for an effective, non-greasy/no white cast SPF - it can be bought online on their website or Amazon, I think it's about 20 euros or so. They also have a body SPF with the same texture, I think that one is scented.

Can you use it under foundation? I agree with your comment on Soleil Toujours. On me it didn't even look tan, it looked straight up orange (like a fruit). After a vacation when my face got a little tiny bit of tan, I could mix Soleil Toujours with my usual tinted moisturizer to color correct (as it was too light with my tan) and it worked great for that.
@mariaduarte21786 жыл бұрын
@@Stellina that's great that you were eventually able to use it. Sadly it was a wasted product for me as I don't tan just burn in the sun so I couldn't mix it with anything. I don't understand why they would have included a tinted SPF in the box as many people could not use it. I was so looking forward to trying it as I was on the hunt for a decent sunscreen and yet was left so disappointed.
@Stellina6 жыл бұрын
Maria Duarte I agree with you. I guess they figured we the white ones are such an overwhelming minority that it didn't matter if a few of us couldn't use the sunscreen. But you are absolutely correct - for something like this curated box, they should have chosen a colorless SPF. I'm guessing they wanted it to be a mineral one (more "natural") and those kinda have to be tinted at least a little bit in order to not leave a white cast on majority of people. I am sorry you couldn't find any use for the product? Maybe give it to a friend or family member? Or you could use it on your legs so they look more tan when you wear a skirt or shorts ;)

I like to use EVY the face spf on the arms in the summer if I am going to spend time outside and do shopping (with trying on lots of clothes) as it is non sticky on me. It is the only "body" spf i use during summer shopping. I don´t like it on my face. It was to weird for that. There is better options for the face. And it is not mainly marketed for kids, its mostly marketed for sporty people like golfers and people who like to sail. Hence the golf ball size.

I know this is aimed more as a beauty review, but as a nurse involved with aftercare education for recovering melanoma patients, the star rating - or at least taking time to find out how much uva protection a sun lotion gives does need to be considered, especially if you're choosing it for important health reasons. A patient mentioned this video in our clinic yesterday so I wanted to add my tuppence worth. Just having a uva logo isn't enough these days, only that the uva resistance meets the minimum legal levels of about 30 percent. Five stars means its been tested to have at least 90 percent. Hope this helps.

I think our sunscreen options in Australia is pathetic considering our climate. I go for Sun Bum because I love the coconut fragrance, but that’s only good for by the pool or at the beach. Coconut = Summer. I’m still on the hunt for a good face sunscreen. I bought one from a US skincare brand, Colleen Rothschild. I love her skincare range (Caroline, I’d love you to check it out) but the sunscreen is only spf25, so I don’t know what that would convert to in Australia. It has 14% zinc oxide which seems high to me. I absolutely love it, but wish is was a higher spf rating. Alpha H daily essential moisturiser with spf30 is good but smells like sunscreen. The Mecca save face range smells like sunscreen, but I might try the mineral spf30 next because it doesn’t smell as bad. BareMinerals has a new sunscreen but it’s only spf15 in Australia, and I’m pretty sure it’s rated spf30 in the US. I find it frustrating that makeup brands add spf to foundation because I’m sure young girls think that is all they need. But hey, I used Reef coconut oil when I was young.
@daniella48896 жыл бұрын
Cathy McCarthy isn’t it just pathetic the sunscreen we have here in Oz?! You’d think with the climate we have we would have some brilliant formulas to wear under makeup! I am yet to find my perfect sunscreen (I’d prefer mineral) I went to Sephora last week and the Murad 30 is actually sold as spf 15 here in Australia, the have to place a little sticker over the rating to adapt it to Australia standards. I’ve used Ultraceuticals (chemical) sunscreen - it’s ok Hydropeptide- was nice but to expensive Biore Watery Essence- Asian sunscreen wayyyyy to much alcohol
@cathymccarthy53606 жыл бұрын
Gabriella Alejandra I know. I wanted that Murad sunscreen/primer as well. It’s good to have strict regulations, but our choices are very ordinary. The US have so many options. And they seem to be much better than us at wearing sunscreen daily.

Cathy McCarthy I’m going to try to see if I can get my hands on some of the sunscreen recommendation on this video, but then again it’s always the case of expenses shipping a product from another country then hating it 👎🏽 A fellow Aussie commented that Sun Bum was available in Australia? Not sure how I’d feel about putting a banana/coconut scented sunscreen on my face to the office though....
@cathymccarthy53606 жыл бұрын
Gabriella Alejandra Yes, Sun Bum is available at Priceline. I agree, coconut is ok for the body at the beach but not for work. The hunt continues. I normally buy a lot of products online that we can’t get here, but the new gst/duties charge combined with our weak AUD is depressing. The sunscreens I’d like to try is Elta MD spf44, Colorescience face shield spf50 and It Cosmetics anti-aging armour spf50, all tinted get good reviews. I have the Colorescience sunforgettable sunscreen powder and it’s great for touch ups during the day. I’ll probably just get the Mecca mineral sunscreen for now.

As a very very fair person, that normally burns to a crisp, living in Cyprus (tiny, really hot island in the Mediterranean), I use Ultrasun SPF 50 for my face. I have to say that over the years I have tried everything, from clinique, la-roche posay, avene, even some medicated stuff the dermatologist prescribed. Nothing has performed as well as the ultrasun one for my face and skin. It is not oily, not ashy, sits beautifully under my make up or blurs everything sufficiently so that I do not have to wear bb/cc cream (let's face it 45-50C weather does not go well with foundation). Been using this for the past 2 years now and for the second consecutive year my face has not burnt!!! It has been a game changer for me as I can now go outside the house during the day :) there are lots of different ones in their range. I cannot recommend enough!

Seconding the recommendation above: Mecca 'To Save Face SPF50+' is amazing. I also really like Skinstitut Age Defense 50+. Best place to pick it up is Adore Beauty but Australian Skin Clinics stock it so you might be able to grab a sample from them.

Agree on the Mecca sunscreen! I use it every day and even have my mum hooked on using it!

I’m a recent covert to your channel. I love how you explain everything and your general demeanour. Binging your videos! I’ve been loving the Heliocare 360 tolerance miners fluid (SPF50)

Hi Caroline, how do you rate Dermalogica SPF products? I’m using the sensitive shield mineral spf 50. I like it but not sure how effective it is. Doesn’t seem to be mentioned in sun care reviews. If you don’t think much of it, can you recommend an alternative mineral product? Thank you!

Always appreciate a blunt Caroline video! Can I ask a slightly (perhaps dumb) skincare question? I'm always religious about applying my broad protection sunscreen from a Korean brand (hybrid as I don't like the white cast of others (or the hefty price of non-white cast mineral ones)) which is SPF50. But as bad as this sounds, I care more about UVA protection and keeping my skin from aging, vs UVB and not burning my skin. Are there UVA-only sunscreens out there if I don't want sun aging but want a tan (i.e. still want some UVB - although maybe I'm misunderstanding how the sun works?)

The real definition is : Broad spectrum = has some UVA protection Circled UVA = has at least a PPD of 1/3 of the SPF indicated PA++++ = has at least a PPD of PPD 16 5 stars = has at least a PPD of 91% of the SPF indicated
@HIGSOFX6 жыл бұрын
So PA++++ and 5 stars is pretty much still the best for UVA protection? Honestly I'm shocked about this star rating/gimmick thing. Like, so when does it get 3 stars? Is 3 stars a bad thing? So confusing😩
@Stellina6 жыл бұрын
Can you cite your sources for this? From everything I read, P+ system is not completely standardized even in Asian countries (among the brands that use that system predominantly). The problem is that testing for UVA protection is not always done and not in detail, so even when something says broad spectrum - you can't be sure how much UVA protection it really gives you.
@gardeniainbloom8126 жыл бұрын
I too would appreciate citations. Honestly we need FACTS. I much prefer Asian sunscreens but I want facts. Too much smoke and mirrors right now.

The PPD value is always the key yardstick for UVA protection

In response to all the comments above : always do your own research and keep doing it. I'm still learning everyday about spf because it is changing all the time in the industry. In fact, I'm constantly changing my standards in terms of the SPF that I use, in regards of the legislation of UVB and UVA protection and the resaerch done. Now if you apply the rules above on a sunscreen of SPF50 (Not 50+ ! Which = SPF 60 and above) : - circled UVA tells you that you have PPD 16,66.. and above - PA++++ is still telling you that you have PPD 16 and above - 5 stars is telling you that you have PPD 45,5 and above. Now PPD *does not* tell you about the wavelength ! (SPF either ! But in 2018, UVB filters cover all of UVB wavelengths). So your last job is to look at the ingredients and look for UVA-long protection : zinc oxide, tinosorb M, tinosorb S aqua... and more to come.

In the States I found a new Physicians Formula Vitamin C stick with SPF 30. Given the price (~$8) I highly doubt the Vitamin C claim will actually pack a punch, but I've been loving it for daily SPF. I just glide it over my face, rub it in with my fingers and I'm out the door. Not having to use creams, liquids or sprays has been a revelation.

Hi Caroline thank you for the lovely video😍😘 I have two questions for you, how do you reapply spf over makeup? I don't wear makeup but I would love to know how you do it. My 2nd question is what do you think of products with spf 15-20-25? Are they enough day to day? You mentioned 2 in The Body shop video so I was interested. Thanks again for all your lovely videos, very "lush" as you would say😘😘😘😘😘I enjoy them so much I save them to watch when my daughter is asleep😂💓

Caroline, do you have any opinion on Australian Gold which others rate so highly? It’s very affordable but I notice it has a lot of aluminium content and surely there are health concerns over aluminium? Anyway, I just wondered if you had any opinion on this.

I adore you and watch your vid religiously. I want to know your thought about the Biologique serums. I never hear u talk about them but you do say put the majority of your $$ into serums. What do you think about them? Particularly Elastin pure and VG tensil?

Melinda Deaton they’re good to all intents and purposes but I find them expensive and the smell is WHOO

Caroline Hirons hahaha yea the smell is funky and I myself started wondering why they were so expensive. So any serum recommendations for dry skin loaded with amino acids for prevention of wrinkles? Thank you for your input

So as long as the UVA words are circled, that's fine? Started to wear uva protection every day now and whilst I am happy I am caring for my skin, it's a nightmare to find one to wear under makeup. My Vichy one balls up like crazy in combination with my serums (buffet & niacinamide) and pore blurring primer. When I swap my Vichy against Formula 10.06 guava SPF, the 'shedding' but boots don't sell formula anymore :'( xx Please do a follow up on physical vs chemical sunscreen and this circle around the UVA lettering xx

I have been trying to be better about wearing SPF. I just do not understand how to reapply when you are hot and sweaty. We were in the Philippines this summer and reapplying SPF on sweaty oily skin is nasty. How do we get around this???
