Cried throughout. Bravo Kris, for being determined to honor your friend at a time when you might have preferred not to reveal yourself in the midst of a personal struggle. And bless you for your sweet support of your friend, Brandi Carlile. You are one classy lady.

Only i know the lyrics i recognise the introduction by KK.With little to no melody, tune or musical quality. However, hes KK,hes a legend. Hes now older.Anyone who is still working their trade at his age gets my attention, regard, appreciation and congratulations. As for Brandi, her empathy, generosity and admiration for those who have blazed her trail is remarkable. Not to omit the wonderful, gracious Joni Mitchell a fellow Irish woman. ☘

How very very beautiful this was. I cried all the way through.
I've listened to Joni sing this many thousands of times and loved it each time. But this one that I've listened & watched a hundred times in the past 3 years gets me in the heart every time! Thanks for sharing this view.

He was an incredible writer…he never had a voice…can’t say this is the best version of this song….But a good man apparently…and beautiful when he was young.❤

This is why the modern thing of having everything pre-recorded and multiple versions cued up and hidden singers doesn't lead to this kind of musicianship.

What you're seeing here is an icon who -- despite a cognitive decline at first misdiagnosed as early-onset Alzheimer's and later revealed to be Lyme disease -- is powering through this song through sheer force of will, with loving and generous assistance from Brandi Carlile. A guy who famously found Joni's "Blue" album too revealing when he first heard it in 1971 is making amends some 50 years later despite (or perhaps because of) his own personal vulnerabilities.

hes 85 and suffering from health issues leave the guy alone he still sounds like kris. and even if it's not perfect who cares he's earned the right to just sing when he wants to

Kris's career was furthered at a critical time by Joni, who would hold guitar pulls in her hotel room when she came to Nashville, Kris was too shy to perform among so many well-known people, and Joni would specifically say "what are you working on now, Kris. He feels that he owes her, and despite his memory issues (which actually got better after treatment for the Lyme. It was brave of him to do it.

I absolutely loved Kris singing this. I just ran across this recently and had read he wasn’t performing anymore cause of health issues. So I find this a treasure.

Shame on you as he struggled with Parkinson’s and Lyme disease he had the balls in the heart and the courage in the condition that he was in to get on stage in front of thousands of people to celebrate the birthday of his friend from the 1960s!
