To be fair, Elton didn't always sing Bernie's lyrics in a way that it was easy to understand. And that was before he went all unintelligible in mid career with his version of pop soul music, sliding words into and on top of each other like he'd been drinking. I'm not saying he was, it just had that slurry sound.

Throughout her performance her voice gets lost in the instrumentation in the most beautiful way, like getting turned around while in an unfamiliar city and finding the best cafe you’ve ever been to. I was taught by my music teacher that listening is the most important skill for a singer/musician to have and Sara has it nailed.

I've been buying Sara's albums since high school and I definitely took her for granted. She's great across the board, and I'm always so happy when a playlist shuffles to her or I hear her on the radio. It wasn't until Waitress and Girls5Eva that I saw her in a different context--more than just a singer singing--that I understood her voice is so singular and special. She slots in so rightly in the pantheon of great performers that it's easy to forget her talent isn't just immense but remarkable.
