I've just finished watching The Starling and the movie so resonated and then there was the song. I lost my son to suicide whilst he was in mental health and well the movie as did this song connected. His story merges and weaves in and out of these two mediums. God bless to those who find a way to hang on and god defend the ones that can't.

To this day "Do I make myself a blessing to everyone I meet" is a motto I live by on a daily. When I first heard this song, that line stopped me dead in my tracks reminding me that I wasn't living up to the person I aspired to be. This song literally changed my life!

Thank you for your verbal eloquence. Recently I’ve been trying to comment on every KZbin comment that actually made me smile or giggle. Thank you. I utilize the phrase, “social crime” occasionally. It doesn’t have an exact meaning for me and therefore can be applied to many types of interactions between people. Thank you again, Jihan. You actually made it more appealing for me to get out of bed today. Legit and sincere thank you 😊

I work as a chaplain with a homeless shelter and this song really, really connected. I have a friend of mine who, when I met him, threatened my life. Later, when I saw him again, he apologised and sought to make things right. "That wasn't me, that wasn't me," was what he said again and again. We made peace and he's been in/out of our shelters. Last week, I discovered this song and the next time I see him, I'd like him to hear this song. Not just the title and chorus, but the verse-he's said before in the frustration of trying to get things right. And what's odd, I've said these things, the things that Brandi is singing about. This song is a gift. If this somehow gets to Brandi and her team, thank you and please know: you've blessed some folks with you songs.

Whatever you see, that wasn't me That wasn't me, that wasn't me When you're lost you will toss every lucky coin you'll ever trust And you'll hide from your god like he never turns his back on us And you'll fall all the way to the bottom and land on your own knife And you'll learn who you are even if it doesn't take your life Tell me did I go on a tangent? Did I lie through my teeth? Did I cause you to stumble on your feet? Did I bring shame on my family? Did it show when I was weak? Whatever you see, that wasn't me That wasn't me, that wasn't me But I want you to know that you'll never be alone I wanna believe do I make myself a blessing to everyone I meet When you fall I will get you on your feet Do I spend time with my family? Thank you Miss Carlisle! The song is both a heartbreak and, to me, a hope of the recovering one. This video wrecks me. I won't watch again even though it showed a man realizing he was better in jail, more free than to use again. I listen to the song over and over to understand addiction and recovery. I also change the meaning in my own head and hear the lyrics reminding me my loves one's behavior isn't me/ my fault in addition to the behaviors they do being driven by the cunning and baffling orchestration of the substance. An amazing piece. Love your work!
@wavescrashing14894 жыл бұрын
Bless you, as a recovering addict please always hold in your heart that truth, you are not at fault and sometimes it is only the loss of what we truly love that can shock us away from the substance that haunts us. 15 years completely sober but I lost the love of my life. I hope she is happy and will never bother her, but I send her good wishes nightly even as though I moved on.

They are used to the jail life, extremely sad, but so true. So they go and purposely do something to go back to jail. That is where they feel safe. Now that is sad. But a great song.

This song is so beautiful, so many applications . Dolly's cover of the Story led me here. So glad I discovered Brandi. As a bipolar individual who has stayed healthy the last 7 years , When I think of the last manic episode of 2010 when I nearly lost it all. And put my family through a living hell beyond my control . This song is a beautiful way to think of what after the dust settled I could never have put into words

I saw her in concert years ago and it will always be one of my favorite memories. She is one artist who sounds even better live. Yes, it's possible.

I know exactly what you mean. She has such an amazing voice, and the emotion can be felt with every word that is sung. She's sadly underrated and deserves to be more well known. Unfortunately, people have no taste in music these days. I'm just so happy that I had the opportunity to see her, got in the second row, and didn't die in the extreme heat that I waited in for over an hour. ;)

I've heard this song a few times on satellite radio and I absolutely adore it! I'm amazed this video is only a week old, barely. Your voice is stunning.

The first time I heard this song many years ago, I fell in love with it but I never gave it much thought as to why that was. A decade plus later, Oh Brandie!! How you talk the truth! "you'll fall all the way to the bottom and land on your own knife. And you'll learn who you are even if it doesn't take your life". Truer words I cannot confirm. Thank you. God bless.

Why wait? Why not make it hit a million? Share it, make the world know about it... Brandi Carlile needs to be known more than most of those talentless celebrities these days... she should be talked about by everyone...

I just discovered her recently on youtube, and I just can't get enough of hearing her voice. I just love her voice! It is unique, and yet also puts me a little in mind of Lacy J. Dalton of 70's country who also had a unique and great voice.
