Dude, dude I just love how this loosely inspired a courage the cowardly dog episode. The one where Eustice stops at a diner and loves the burgers. And both the owners are pigs. Wild I never knew where the inspiration came from too.

Fun fact Courage the Cowardly Dog show was inspired by a real couple and their dog that lived in the middles of Nowhere USA and were known for reporting seeing strange things like UFOs, strange mists, and even phantoms. No joke look it up its wild

Rory Calhoun's performance here always invokes Chuck Connors' in "Tourist Trap" for me (and vice-versa). They were both old-school Western actors in the tail end of their careers that turned in surprisingly effective performances that became the highlights of awesome cult horror flicks. Both were even released within a year or so of each other. Very dissimilar films in a lot of ways, but they do have this in common.

Seriously, the chainsaw duel lines up directly with "Duel of Fates" The Chanting starts when he walks out with the Pig Mask and Chainsaw, and the strikes match the rhythm oddly enough. Even the end of the fight matches up with the music when it changes tempo.

The trailer for this scared the shit outta me as a kid in 1980, despite seeing The Shining in theatres later that year (still the best ever!). I realize now it was because of "Asylum" ('72) with the dismembered corpse parts wrapped in butcher paper that moved and breathed. Yikes! Powerful Imagery. Nightmare fuel (literally for me).

Rory Calhoun really had a great run in horror/exploitation films for the last 2 decades of his career. In addition to the movies Brandon noted, he appeared in the first 2 entries of the "Angel'' series, as well as Bigfoot's Revenge and Roller Blade Warriors: Taken by force, set in a dystopian future and featuring a rollerblading warrior nun who battles mutants.

I actually felt the focus on comedy is what made this movie stand out. It gives it a really bizarre aura that adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel all the more uncanny and very memorable. I think it helps this strange move where the psycho cannibal is the most likeable character, certainly more so than the would-be rapist "hero". I also feel like this movie inspired Resident Evil 7 almost as much as Texas Chainsaw. Jack and Marguerite remind me a lot of Vincent and Ada, the chainsaw duel also feels very similar to the one in this film.

Pigs? Pigs aren't scary... unless you count the pigs from Deadwood, Hannibal, the iron pigs from Dark Souls, or even real life pigs that are hungry enough and will descend upon any unfortunate soul that falls into their pens en masse and rip that person to shreds and leaving nothing behind from their terrible feeding frenzy. You know what, I take it back, pigs are god damned terrifying.

One of my old faves! Saw it as a youngster. My buddy and I were about twelve or so and went to rent movies with my mom. She saw the title and promptly refused to rent it for us. My bud got his older brother to rent it and let us watch it. I remember well how me and my buddy were weirded out something fierce by this movie as we watched it late at night. Turns 40 today! The movie is pretty much all build-up until the final reveal/showdown. I have a feeling many viewers won't approve since the good stuff doesn't happen until then. There's definitely campiness to be had here with the movie being satirical in its own nature. A horror-comedy that's not quite scary but still messed up that's for sure. I was slightly let down but I do understand others who'll find more to like here.
