To be fair, the Raptor used in both the 1984 novel & the 1993 film adaptation of *"CARNOSAUR"* is actually Deinonychus, which means "Terrible Claw". It was much larger than Velociraptor at 11 feet in length. They didn't used Velociraptors until the sequels.
@Don_LUSH10 ай бұрын
You thought it was a Raptor But it was him! The Deinonychus!

Imagine if they had made an official *"CARNOSAUR 4"* - ignoring *"RAPTOR"* & *"The Eden Formula"* - and they used Utahraptor, which was even larger than Deinonychus; at *20 FEET!*
@robwalsh984310 ай бұрын
In turn, Michael Crichton seemed to derive his Velociraptors in the Jurassic Park book more from Deinonychus as Deinonychus are much larger and come closer to human-size than turkey-sized Velociraptors. Personally I think he chose it for the name. "Velociraptor" has a special ring to it.

The drivers ed thing was a reference to the gory movies they show in US drivers ed classes to put the fear into kids and maybe make them think twice about speeding or whatever. A classic one is called "Blood on the Asphalt” and they were notorious for sending kids running from the room throwing up. They use real footage of horrifically demolished human remains in real accidents.

The full size T rex was built in three weeks and didn't work very well, and they were only given ten weeks overall to create the film's dinosaurs so the miniatures for both and the full sized animatronics for the Deinonychus were similarly rushed. The third episode of the early nineties discovery channel show movie magic covered the creation of the dinosaurs, well as much as a half hour program could at any rate. A couple of visiting effects artists discussed the problems with the full sized rex when I was in college. Sadly that was long enough ago I can't remember everything that was said.

Just in case the ripping off Jurassic Park wasn't too on the nose, in my region the first movie's VHS was actually titled "Carnosaur Park". I know they did the same for the second one, but I don't know about the third. It's crazy, because I live in Latin America, and usually movie titles just get translated into Spanish, but here they decided the reference was more important than the translation.

This movie is Loosely based on a book by John Brosnan in 1984. The book is somehow crazier than the movie. The book has a lot more dinosaurs. These movies should have been called something stupid like "Dinopocalypse" and would still have made as much money. It is so much of a departure from the source material. Because of these movies, whenever CARNOSAUR is mentioned, people think of this abomination against cinema.
