The irony is that while the assassination attempt has sparked renewed calls to ban "weapons of war" like the AR-15 used by the shooter, the Secret Service sniper popped the shooter with a bolt action rifle. If AR's were banned, the shooter would have likely also just used a bolt action, which even in a traditional hunting configuration with a decent scope would have likely been more accurate.

Likely /far/ more accurate at that note. A hunting rifle with a decent scope, compared to some junkheads AR. The difference should be pretty clear even when typed out. One is meant for sporting and hunting. It is meant to be accurate at these distances, if not longer. The other has configurations meant for long range, but those include a /scope/ and usually longer barrels to maximise both spin and velocity on the exiting round. I still feel it is incredibly stupid (Even as an English man myself) that people declare the AR a weapon of war, and try to ban it as such. That is like saying we should have stripped peasantry of their tools during the middle ages, because some dickhead had the bright idea of strapping a bunch of leather whips tipped with steel to the end of their hoes to produce flails. Weapons, much like farming implements, are tools. Dickheads will be dickheads, what matters is ensuring those people around them are adequately trained and prepared to defend themselves should push come to shove, and that they have the EQUIPMENT to do so. Restricting firearms and weapons on the proposition that "criminals" might misuse them (read: scumbag) or "they're weapons of war" (endless rhetoric spewed by people who misunderstand the point of weaponry as a whole) has lead to nothing but the common man losing his freedoms, but criminals continuing to operate with impunity. Regulate, but do not ban. Certainly do not take tools from the average man. A pistol is as much of a weapon of peace, as it is war. A rifle a means to save a life, as it is to take it.

Shooter was at 151 yards and corner of building was at 130 so that's where that comes from. An ear facing you is about half an inch wide and at 151 yards that is .331 MOA accuracy for those that are curious. What that translates too is that not even the worlds best Olympian shooter can accurately make a shot on an ear at that distance because even with the perfect shot it has an equipment limitation and you can NOT accurately predict where that round will land within its 4.5-5 inch grouping. I am glad someone finally addressed this as I was tweeting it away at larpers for a week.

I honestly think it was a blade job more than anything. Man's in the WWE hall of fame, I wouldn't put it past him. Nobody saw him bleed till he got up. My dad was an ROTC marksman, so I'm properly trained on sharpshooting. Better shot than he is. It's possible, but it requires an autistic level of dedication to a weapon, a lot of test firing, and a generally decent understanding of atmospheric conditions like wind speed and direction. Occam's razor, I don't think the shooter understood a lot of this. I think he hit three people in the crowd because he was a bad shot, and Trump capitalized on the opportunity. He's a businessman, selling to you is his whole shtick. Someone opened fire at the rally prior, and Secret Service had him down and off the stage before he could. Notice how he stuck his head out while they were trying to get him out? That was on purpose. It was a show.

Based on the info I was able to source here is what I found... Matthew Crooks used a DPMS AR circa 2011, back then most DPMS AR's were using 1:9 twist rates, he also purchased 50 rounds of Aguila 62 grain FMJBT, interestingly 1:9 twist rates are perfect for 62 grain bullets. He was using no magnified optics but did have a small red dot sight as depicted in this video, very accurately represented mind you. Range was about 150 yards with a slight elevation advantage to the shooter. His DPMS rifle should be a 16 inch barrel, so we can safely say muzzle velocity of about 2850 - 2900 ft/s, at 150 yards on that particular day the round that hit Trumps ear should have been moving about 2650 - 2700 ft/s. Now depending on how "cheap" aka crap the shooters optic was he could have had an MOA of 3 inches per 100 yards or 10 inches per 100 yards, also its not known if he had it zeroed in at 100 yards or at all. I can tell you right now, that shit was NOT staged, Trump is lucky to be alive, and the shooter thankfully was fucking stupid not just for the attempt but for how he attempted, it thankfully looked like next to 0 actual thought went into it, almost like it was impulsive. But hey what do I know, I am just some random internet keyboard warrior that definitely does not write ballistics code for military simulators or does a lot of IRL shooting because I am fascinated with guns and how they work... As for the sniper that took out Crooks, he was using a Remington M2010 ESR (Correction, it is in fact an Accuracy International AXSR) chambered in .300 Win Mag, if they are using government sourced ammunition (I have no clue if they are), then it would be Mk248 Mod 1, DODIC AB43. The sniper had an elevation advantage on the shooter (Crooks), from the very graphic photos available online, it looks like the shot went into the shooters left side below the "temple" behind his left eye socket and traveled down while expanding, it likely severed the optical nerve of his left eye, blew out his sinus cavities as well as the roof of his mouth, before continuing down and exiting out the rear right portion of his head underneath his jawline. What that means was the shooter (Crooks) FELT that shot, he was not instantly dead, it bled out to death from hemorrhaging, and was most likely blind as he asphyxiated on his own blood until he died.

Edit: After finding more info the SS did take him out and was likely the sniper on the barn to Trump's left. I believe 2 more local police snipers were on the second floor of the building next to the shooter. Also wasn't it the local SWAT that took him out and not the SS? I believe they were on the red barn behind Trump on the right (or his left). On the other barn was the SS who were looking in the direction of the shooter but didn't fire.

Believe or not, having no magnification actually helps to steady the aim. Noone who ever looked through a red dot at even 100m would think that a setup like this would be used to stage a close shave. Not if the shavee values his life.

Yeah I tried a gallon jug at 190yrds with red dot and it covered the jug with the dot on the lowest setting that I could still see the dot. I missed my 1st shot but 2nd one nailed it.

I am a 78 y/o Combat Vietnam Veteran, and you all did a great job recreating the shooting event. I suffer from PTSD witnessing worse situations, during my time in service, and close combat. I hope the President didn't lose his hearing or a chunk of his ear. I served with some great men, that never came home, who weren't as lucky. God Bless.

@@MrRobMetal it goes deeper than that. The area they had locked down was way too small. There were reports of a dude on the roof, then reports he had a gun and still nothing. The sniper that gave him the forever sleep knew the shooters location, which is why he didn't have to adjust his aim, he had his cross hairs on the shooter. Even if he hadn't heard the dude had a gun he can still clearly see a guy on a roof laying prone towards Trump with something in his hands. Shooting first and asking questions later might not always be the answer but there had to have been another option besides letting the dude fire atleast 3 rounds before you clocked him out. Also just Incase "anyone" is watching... I don't want to harm myself or others and am planning to live a long happy life... Gotta cover my bases since I kinda been hating on SS since this happened 😂

Because the government and its agencies are basically incompetent by default?....any other day of the week you'd be nodding your head i agreement, so why not just go with the simple explanation now? the secret service has been half assing it for years as 999 times out of 1000 they stand around bored, and nothing goes wrong...that's a recipe for complacency and mismanagement to take root.. just look at the women in charge...does she strike you as particularly suitable for the job?...now how about all the senior agents below her...they get their by being the best of the best?..or kissing ass and towing the company line?

I'm no conspiracy theorist but something really isn't right here in the security planning and execution of this event. Trump probably should add some private security for which the secret service is the backup, not the primary.
