Thank you for posting this footage, Brandon! I had just moved to New Orleans with my mum-I'm a singer and musician and she's a retired art historian. This was our first hurricane as we come from the Arizona desert. Unfortunately, my mum fell and broke her hip the night b4 Ida hit and although she was safe in hospital, I had to witness Ida all alone with my kitties! I live in Kenner, proper. I also shot my own footage and photos of Ida through my front window! SO SCARY! But folks just don't get what I went through and what I saw...your footage perfectly captures what was happening outside my neighborhood! WHEW! Much appreciated because now my folks back in AZ can UNDERSTAND the magnitude! ^..^

The roar, the intensity of the rain and the speeds of those winds just incredible and Houma got the slightly weaker NW Quadrant and Ida was 130 mph when it reached this area not 150 mph and still its jaw dropping.

The eye was 20 miles from my house. It's the worst hurricane I've ever experienced and I've lived through Andrew, Katrina and Gustav. Ida had me drinking tequila and pacing my house. Thank God for the help. Our state needs it!

Not evaluating allowed me to save my house and pets. We fought the entire time to save our house. Without a doubt. If we would have evaluated. I would definitely be homeless right now. While other evaluated. But, we're still trying to help others recover from it. One day at a time. This is home

I was born and raised there in Houma I moved away a few months before Katrina and it breaks my heart to see everything being destroyed it's so sad thank you for being brave and shooting this footage where I live now we have tornadoes and those I'm my opinion is worse than hurricanes because they start warning you about 3 months ahead of time tornadoes just pop up at any given time and anywhere you get no warning I have been blessed because I have had them in the pasture right across the street from my house and they just traveled down instead of coming towards my house so I know God has my home and my family protected

We have no way of knowing how many animals (wildlife, strays/pets, livestock, etc) didn't make it through these storms/natural disasters, all around the world ... how many babies, born/hatched in Spring, died before reaching adulthood. The birds and animals seem to fare better, I saw footage on Sunday from another chaser with a herd of cows trotting across the road to eat grass and at Green Meadow a horse calmly eating while buildings were being torn apart, it was surreal. my grandma lives in Houma and they still arent letting us in to see the damage all we know is a neighbors tree fell on one of the bedrooms , this storm its not the wind and surge damage overall (compared to Katrina) its the power and water that are becoming the problem too even that level , even in places with minor damage the power is still out. i got lucky 2 days and power is back

@@thomasjones36 Yeap. We're just taking it a day at a time. This was the worst I've ever been through. But, we're alive. Our pets are one of the many reasons we didn't evaluate. They're safe. I've never evacuated for any hurricane. Everyone was talking about Katrina being the worse. Katrina was like a breeze compared to Ida. Katrina was more deadly because of the old levee system. That pretty much what made it seem the worse. Everyone was trapped in New Orleans from the flood waters. Which was recently updated before Ida hit us. Katrina was a category 3 when it made landfall. Ida was a category 4 when it hit us along the coast. But, it definitely felt a whole lot stronger. I got a direct hit from this one. We had nearly 200mph winds recorded in my neighborhood. Just got to have faith. Be thankful for what we all still have. The recovery is a very slow progress. We'll come back stronger. Y'all hang in there as well. With y'all tornado disaster and hurricane Ida nearly taking us off the map down here. Y'all will make it as well. We've been helping each other as much as possible. All anyone can do is try. Reminds me of 08/23/92 in Miami during Hurricane Andrew…except the winds in Andrew were actually about 190mph and not what was initially reported due to Andrew “taking out” the National Hurricane Center. it was my first “real” hurricane and i went from Fort Lauderdale to Miami to be with some sick relatives who were unable to evacuate. I was outside most if the night and the noise was like a freight train in the sky with lots of green lightening. It was very surreal. Some neighborhoods in South Miami had every single home, tree, bush and street sign destroyed. Thank God we get advance warnings of these natural events nowadays.

Wow, this is amazing footage, but I have a question about the creation process. How were you able to capture such great audio and video? I ask because it sounds like the microphone was in the elements, I can hear the rain splattering and the wind ripping, but theres no rain drops on the camera lens. Are you recording in a vehicle with a microphone mounted outside in the storm? That's my guess. But either way, this is an amazing video and thank you for capturing it for us.

Its the gusts of wind during the storm that do the most damage. I saw those gusts of wind that were bringing in the damage that tore up the structures in the city. If it could have just remained sustained wind there probably wouldn't have been as much damage. but those gusts bring the terrible damage.

Why do people build such flimsy stuff in these areas? Those crappy signs made from sheet metal should be outlawed in those areas. and rebuild with more rounded structures that the wind can't grab onto. Just saying I know poor folks are stuck but those that can like commercial properties and power plants etc. should build with these storms in mind.

I went through a hurricane around 2008 by myself in a small frame home over on Byron St in Houma. The eye went through Houma then also but nowhere near as powerful as Ida. Houma has the best people there that I’ve ever met…. seriously. This is a horrible thing to watch from Georgia and a hope and pray my ex in-laws in Raceland and Houma made it through ok. These people are tough as they come.
