“Dude, even a simple paper notebook could be worth a million dollars if you use it well for what you need. Whether it’s an RM2, RMPP, or a Boox, they’re all great products. Ultimately, it’s up to the user to make the most out of it, and that’s what gives any tool its value.”

This is a silly question but I am looking to get my first e-ink tablet that I intend to use as a notebook for general journaling, as well as using it as an e-reader. What is reading like on the device, what services do you use to download / read books (can I just use kindle services? Or does Remarkable have their own ecosystem?), and most importantly: Are you able to write in the margins of books that you load up to read on the device?

I bought a rM2 2 weeks ago after watching tens of reviews and opinions on the rMPP. I'm honestly happy with it so far, and I really don't think the advantages of the rMPP are that noticeable to justify the extra cost. Still, your review was, well, remarkable!

Nice summary and a succinct take on what this device is :) I just can't get over how much that screen size fits so perfectly for both writing and reading. After testing the RmPP I am now back on my Go 10.3, and it just keeps feeling small, and the Tab X is too big... I'm waiting patiently for the Supernote A5X2 (if it ever comes out at this point?), because basically that sounds like the device that I am looking for. If it would only come out already so that we can see if it delivers or not :) Great job on this one Brandon! :)

I’ve had my RPP sitting at home the last month while I’ve been travelling. Thanks for the nudge to use it! I don’t use it to draw, but I just love being able to write in colour to give me a bit more of a visual pop while being more convenient than travelling with fountain pens and ink!
@MC-ov8dr2 ай бұрын
I really think most people just wanted a RM2 with better processor and front light to be honest I love my RMPP, but I think there are quirks with it that make it feel like a side step and a different product than the successor to the RM2. I didn't think I needed color, and within a week the color options became very useful in my grad school notes. I like the writing feel, but not having 3rd party stylus options or nibs really feels like a step back to me, especially since the new nibs seem to wear down faster than my old ones, and the wider nib changes my accuracy when writing a bit.
@BrandonKBoswell2 ай бұрын
Agreed. I think they knew what they were doing releasing this one before the rM3. In fact I agree with everything you wrote. Well done.
@Rsmin2 ай бұрын
Brandon, Great review, been waiting on what you thought. I have to say my use case makes the RMPP perfect for me. I teach from hand written notes using color highlights to keep me focused on where I am at while teaching. Each color highlight means something to me. I was using the RM2 previously and would use the different color pens and highlights while preparing my lesson but would of course have to print out those lessons in color to teach from. This made the RMPP exactly what i had been looking for since going to E-ink devices. IF one does not need color and primarily uses the RM2 for note taking then I don't see the need to upgrade, but this finally puts at end to my quest of looking for the perfect tablet to teach from. I love the new stylus. I tried to write with a "light hand" on the RM2 but was constantly wearing down the nibs. Not so with this one. As far as the gray screen, that doesn't bother me at all. I am 70 years old and it reminds me of the days of "newspapers" which were grayish in color. Some might say, well why don't you just use real paper, and color pens and to that argument, I used to and was constantly having to change as "thoughts" changed or mistakes in writing had to marked out. Often my finished lesson was a mess. I love being able to "double tap" to erase a mistake, and or "triple tap" to put it back. Also can move the text I have already written to add something or put it in a new place. I have finaly quit my search for the perfect device and I have had several of them. Thanks again for your review of this. I am sure it will help many decide on which device is best for them.

for me it has got me back to using my RM2 way more, as if having that dual screen set up and paired with your laptop or phone now I can have a PDF open and file out notes or documents on the other device, for me my pro is more that at the desk device and the RM2 is the on the go device, the case on the pro is amazing, would be a great addition for a RM2 version,
@Bruceneuman2 ай бұрын
RM2 is very good but the Pro is better in my view. Seems snappier to me and I like the feel of the new active stylus. The front light could be brighter but sufficient for note taking in dimly lit situations. The new smart covers are welcome. And the color e-inks are a bonus. I added the new backlit and larger keyboard cover, which is great but waiting for software upgrades to make better use of it. All of this is expensive, however.

It would also allow me to take notes over docs like PowerPoints and PDFs. Seriously considering picking this device up.

I thought I'd get this, but ReMarkable is brutal on UK customers. Even without the folio and premium pen, the Paper Pro alone costs £559 ($725). I considered waiting for the 2024 Scribe too but your review on the quality and size of the Supernote A6 X2 Nomad really appealed to me. Price is much more in line with what I was willing to pay too - HoM pen and folio included. £460 ($597)
@fsociety.dat1012 ай бұрын
Yeh, the price hike for the UK really steered me away from purchasing any Remarkable products. The Supernote A6 X2 Nomad does look interesting and more reasonable when it comes to cost, but at that price point it still is a big investment. Then there is the screen size to consider as it is a lot smaller.
@heidiasheim9708Ай бұрын
It's actually crazy... It's a Norwegian company, and here in Norway we have to pay $717 (8,000 NOK) for the Marker Plus included without the folio. So I don't think it's only brutal for UK customers, as I would've thought it would be less for us Norwegians, but US customers are the lucky ones:´)

I love my remarkable 2, and I don’t *need* color, but the one thing about r2 that’s killing me is needing to add light to use it. And a LOT of light. I think I’m going to buy the new one (ouch on the price 😳) because a lit screen is worth it for me. And yes, I have an iPad, but once you’ve really experienced the Remarkable, there’s no comparison for writing on paper.

Another excellent video Brandon. I agree on the upgrade factor to consider from a rM2 or interest in reMarkable. The bigger size, color, and future specs is what contributed to my decision to add to my rM2 to handle my complex math problems and show my steps via the color differences with more space. Of course I’m keeping my rM2 as I was a preorder customer back in 2020 and my rM2 is just fine, works great and no major issues. I haven’t had any issues yet traveling to the office with my rMPP but I haven’t had to travel with in on the plane yet, which is one of the reasons I’m glad I can sync them together in case I want to travel with my rM2 instead due to the better portability potential. Outside of that I have a Supernote A6X2, nomad for using at the gym to track my workouts and for small conferences. So far, I haven’t put my rMPP down since receiving it.

Aside from those two uses, I don’t see what else I would use it for-calendar is on my phone, dont typically take meeting notes, and wouldn’t use it as a planner. Great review, thank you😊 I have had an RM2 for about 18 months now, and for the most part, I have loved it. I use it predominantly for client interviews and just keeping all my notes together in an easy to find system. The things missing for me was the backlight and also the ability to see different colours, but that one wasn't a deal breaker for me. I mentioned last week to my wife that a new one had come out with those features, just a throwaway comment really, but she took it as something I really wanted and went and ordered it for my Birthday this week😂 It is yet to turn up, but I am interested to see what it is like. After watching your review, I am not 100% convinced that I need it? You mentioned the RM3 coming out next year. Do you know much about it? Is it likely to be a faster, more refined version of the RM2 with a backlight? Because that could be just what I need...

Question 🙋🏻, (I apologize it’s a bit long) I have a Scribe on which I have tons of notes, marked papers and thesis revisions, but it started to feel a bit small for the common sheet size I usually read and the content on the papers (graphs mainly) are colour coded, I even sometimes forget that certain graphs have colour, just realize when viewing them on a computer. I’m on the fence of getting the Remarkable, but the thing that stops me is the lower resolution of the remarkable vs. the scribe, haven’t seen anyone talking about it, also, when exporting the handwritten notes, do they look as bad as on the scribe? Thanks!!

@dolorlux461215 күн бұрын
9:39 How do you jump to that conclusion? The Remarkable 2 is what I would consider wayyyy more future proof. It's minimalist and responsive and all the pens work with it. The philosophy behind the 2 vs Paper Pro seems more in tune with what I would consider a timeless design, whereas the other one has a lousy backlight, a pen that will die, harder to write on because it's too thick, worse battery life. And to top it all off the color display is in it's infancy and it's really bad. They're both going to have their batteries become garbage before the "future" comes anyway. I think the Remarkable 2 will find itself being cloned decades from now due to it's "digital detox" vibe if you know what I mean. The other is just coming across as a gimmicky tablet with no app store and a load of flaws. Meanwhile the Remarkable2 in a philosophical sense is flawless.

That’s typically what I see my fellow Supernote users don’t get when they continue to highlight that as a draw back and not appreciating that for those who don’t need those features it’s not enough. I don’t need a great e-reader I have two, I don’t need apps, I have an iPad for that. I appreciate what each device is good at and designed for, coming from a dual device user.

I want a device that I can use for reading articles, emails and document creation. I do have an iPad but I want to get away from that glossy screen. I dislike reading on my iPad. This one looks very good on paper.

Writing feel. Is it a hard surface, or does it feel like a pad of paper?
@BrandonKBoswell2 ай бұрын
It’s on the harder side. If you want something that feels like a pad of paper then try the Supernote.

Do you recommend upgrading from the Kindle scribe?
@BrandonKBoswell2 ай бұрын
If you find that the Scribe is holding you back. Otherwise stick with what is working.

I'm always wonder how and for what you are using your Remarkable 2 :) Could we have a video about it? I hope it's not only my curiosity :)

That would be fun. Noted.

Even if it was the same price. The remarkable 2 is so much better, imo. More agile and feels more natural. The backlight distorts my vision and blurs out the content.

Found your channel by searching "paper pro". Thanks for the informative review. I have a tangential question: at 7:30 I noticed your split keyboard. Could you share which brand it is? I'm also considering switching to a split keyboard to ease my shoulder pain.

ZSA Voyager. It has done wonders for my wrist and shoulder pain. Do expect a learning curve though.

Which e-link device you think its best to work with Notion app?

None of them. The Boox does run Android apps though

How have the new pen tips lasted?
@BrandonKBoswell2 ай бұрын
Haven’t changed one yet and I’m over a month in. No significant wear yet. Depends significantly on how much pressure you apply. I would guess I would run through about 2-3 a year if I were to estimate.

Does it also work for right handed writers?

Thankfully for their profitability it does

I stick to my RM2, crappy build and all. It's light, great battery, and right size.

Has anyone tried this for taking notes for college? I'm going to be going into a health science program pretty soon and I'm looking into tablet/etc.

Can you read Kindle ebooks on this device?
@BrandonKBoswell2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not. Check out the Scribe or Boox devices if this is important to you. I personally use the reMarkable for work and the Kindle Oasis for bedtime reading.
