John had to have grieved the deaths of his brother and fellow Apostles. But oh the goodness of God, while in the Patmos prison, God gave him the vision of all the martyred saints in Revelation 6:9-11 in their white robes, resting with Jesus. He got to see them all in heaven!!!

I was taught that St Jude, he was also called Judas. The name Thaddeus is a nickname used during that time. St Jude was killed by axe. If you look at statues and art depiction, the things they hold are symbols to remind stores of the saints. The Arm of St. Jude also passed threw my town on its tour through the U.S. Which is why I learned about his story, as they had boards of his relationship as cousin to Jesus, through Mary's side of the family. Lots of interesting facts about St. Jude and why he was huge in bring Armenia into Christianity. Plus now he's known for healing the sick, or lost causes. Which is why the hospital of St. Jude exists.

Yes, very true I went to the tour in Phoenix at St. Anne's church named after grandmother of St. Jude! Sister of the the Blessed Virgin Mary Jesus and St. Jude were cousins just like John the Baptist was Jesus cousin as well.

My thoughts on the teaching of celibate wives: if their husbands were Roman and not Christians, they could have been participating in many ungodly acts (such as temple prostitutes, affairs) which I would think Christian leaders and Jews would find inappropriate for the women to continue to have relations with them after they became Christians. Wouldn’t that be a purity/ holiness issue? Just a thought.

Refraining from ungodly acts does sound like a reasonable explanation. A word from historians at the time would have brought clarity for this strange teaching. Maybe they felt people in that day would have known why. Interesting.

one thing some none believers ignore when commenting on the bible, is the fact the apostles were religious jews who lived in 29 AD when judea was under Roman control, and expectations were high for the Messiah to come. To a jew, a person claiming to be the son of God would be considered blasphemous, but then when they saw Jesus control the storm, walked on water, changed water to wine, healed the cripple, made the blind see, cast out demons, fed 5000 with handful of loaves of bread and raised the dead (twice). At this point they already believed him to be Messiah and with Peter's revelation, "..the son of the living God.." . Then they witnessed the brutal scourging, crucifixion and death, then being risen and ascending into heaven. It is no wonder, they were willing to embark on a mission even if it meant death. This was not a David Copperfield set for some grand illusion. Anyways, i suspect many of you here are already believers- i just find a certain perspective useful, if you imagined walking around Judea in 29 AD.
