Thanks for your demonstration.. very meticulous... But the damage was not as bad as I thought.. you guessed about the ring issue.. why did you not remove the bye pass cover and see if the rings moved.. also what was the compression p.s.i number.. I may have missed that. Well thanks for your time..😀😎

what do you do with your spare parts mate? Ive watched all your uploads and have learn t heaps cheers...getting good parts in NZ is a joke
@BrandonsGarage7 жыл бұрын
Look up the part numbers, label them, and put them in a box and save them. Usually, when I take apart and engine, I already have another version of the same motor. I take the junky one apart and use its parts to fix the better one. In this case, the better one has a blown rod, and the body isn't in any better shape. I just watch craigslist and find free or cheap motors (> $50) and buy them and see if I can get them going. Usually I can without too much trouble.

thanks for the reply mate, I do exactly the same here as johnsons are really cheap because the parts come from (the best parts!) come from the U S. I just ordered coils and a points tune up kit from U S for 59 dollars U S but by the time freight and exchange rate came in they ended up at 115NZ. So most people just get rid of them cheap because they also have to pay the marine mechanic. I bought a 1960 18hp for 40 dollars so im still winning this one...........at this stage hahahaha

Do use parts still get the import tax applied? ..or, do they even allow used parts in?
@mrjohngreig7 жыл бұрын
Brandon's Garage our laws are not as “ harsh” as the USA.... haha.. no taxes on items that are not produced in NZ or if it doesn’t exceed $1000 nz dollars but even then it has to be an item listed in our custom regulations... new or second hand...
@mrjohngreig7 жыл бұрын
the shipping cost was more than the parts
