specifically speaking about links-i feel like affiliate links have given anyone and everyone the opportunity to be a micro-influencer. like, years ago, you had to have a specific larger presence on social media to be gifted an affiliate link from brands (to be fair, it’s still like that for plenty of companies), but with something like amazon, anyone can apply to be part of the program. so now we have this culture of content creators with tiny followings trying to make as much money as possible by constantly linking EVERYTHING they touch, and it adds up. how many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people are essentially itemizing their lives and attempting to sell us themselves, link by link? i think small creators deserve payment for their hard work, OF COURSE, but not like that.

Better help enrages me on a whole other level. They advertise themselves as a company who matches you with a therapist; *presumably* a *licensed* mental health therapist. In reality they LITERALLY hire anyone and none are required to have any kind of license let alone a degree. They are putting vulnerable people with real mental health issues- people with trauma, with neurological conditions- in the hands of fucking randos. …I cannot fathom the level of evil the creators of this company have inside them.

@kat_thefruitbat7 ай бұрын
I have unfollowed a lot of minimalism and organization creators within the past couple of years after noticing them take a serious downhill turn. And by that I mostly mean they have entered into an endless cycle of overconsumption, excessive PR and sponsorships, wasteful/impractical organization methods which often involve even more overconsumption, and careless/unsustainable decluttering. Probably two years ago, one channel I was subscribed to at the time made a video that was supposed to be about organization, but 100% of it was an advertisement for The Container Store. The entirety of the video literally took place inside one of the brick and mortar store locations, and she had someone filming her while she went around showing various products and giving suggestions on ways to use them and whatnot. I watched less than half of the video before I started skipping ahead to see if there was a point where she was no longer in the store, and when I saw that there wasn’t, I unsubscribed and haven’t watched another one of her videos since. Greed is a parasite which can be found at the core of so many problems.

The meal kits like to proclaim about how there isn’t any waste because if you need a teaspoon of oregano or whatever, that’s all you get. But everything is in separate little plastic bags, some, like FACTOR_ have microwaveable plastic trays, covered by plastic film, inside a cardboard sleeve, this stuff needs to be kept cold, so now it’s insulated packaging and cold packs. All. In. The. Trash. You can meal plan, and make all the meals you need for the week in one or two days, put it in the freezer in your personal reusable packaging to reheat… boom, your own personal convenience meals. Sick of meal kits!

I just cannot even with Betterhelp. The blurb on the bottom of the email is standard for all offices that fall under HIPAA in the US. It’s on every one of my (proper) therapist’s appointment reminders, etc. (Though I’ve always found it funny that you obviously read the email before the privacy notice). So, no, that doesn’t apply to their business outreach emails. It’s just boilerplate in case somebody emails something that could be covered by HIPAA. Selling even the fucking names of your patients - past present future just wanted information wtfever - is absolutely illegal. Selling their actual medical record?!? I mean, somebody there has to have a license to lose. Well, welcome to late stage capitalism where most of our agencies are led by industry insiders.

gotta dislike for calling brands fatphobic, which isn't a real criticism, and then not even giving any examples or details. encouraging people to eat healthy or even lose weight is not a bad thing. the actual issue with those companies is that you can buy the same shit for cheaper at costco, and that relying on supplements leads some people to neglect their diets (not eat fruits and veggies)
