Hearing Brandon explaining the mistborn eras convinced me to read era 2. I was originally on the fence with reading the era 2 books since I'm not a huge fan of steampunk but hearing Brandon explain that era 1 is like basically the founding religion/mythology of the world and that the eras will go much further makes the whole saga seem so much more interesting and worthwhile
@GoErikTheRed4 ай бұрын
I’m not sure steampunk is the best description. Picture the sheriff from a classic western going back to the big city. But with allomancy. And Kelsier is worshipped like Jesus. Overall not as coherent of a story as Era 1, but definitely worth reading On a slightly related note, have you read Mistborn: secret history?

I love both eras, but I think they are quite different. Era two is more fun and not as dark as era 1. I agree with GoErikTheRed that steampunk is not quite the right word. It's basically mid/late 19th century with some extra gadgetry thanks to allomancy. It also has what became my favourite cosmere couple, so there's that :)

Eh, I don’t think that’s how it feels when you’re in the driver’s seat. Assuming the creators made the show they wanted to make (and it wasn’t interference from execs). I think if you look at successful projects, they also have creators at the helm who have strong convictions. When you’re in the middle of making the thing, it’s hard to know if your vision is good or bad. But if you don’t hold to that vision you make work that is neither good nor bad but is instead bland. Which I think is worse. And in this case, Brandon is not a professional screenwriter, whereas the show runners are. There are many examples of adaptations where the original author has a ton of creative control and it results in a middling product, and many examples of the converse where the filmmakers made major changes resulting in a great end result. Like, we praise Dune for being a great adaptation, but there are major changes from the book (especially in movie 2). But because the changes are successful, and are part of an overall great movie, the changes don’t bug most fans (to the point where I’ve seen people say it’s a more faithful adaptation than 1984 Dune, which is just not true). So this might be a case where they made a bad show, but I don’t think them disagreeing with Brandon is itself a bad thing.

The ending scene of the lost metal has Wayne curcumvent the speed of light with his slider bubble, and he also mentions that a slider savant could make their bubble move with them. A slider with a daralumin gnat spike or a nicroburster buddy might be able to make a sort of living FTL drive.

Also, could Marsh use a TV? My guess is no. That would be fun cementing him even further as the old man of the setting, unable to keep up with an increasingly screen-using society.
@RexusprimeIX4 ай бұрын
You wouldn't even need people for this. Technology will evolve to a point where they will have FTL engines that mimic the powers of sliders. Think the cubes used to make the airships fly: that's allomancy powered by machinery. And in the far future, I bet the "fuel" to power these FTL drives will be like purified investiture. Fill up the tank, and then the engine converts the investiture into temporal allomancy.

There wasn't a specific name given. My guess would be Tien (Check the fandom on the link of Q&A) - "Yes. So, there's a couple themes going on here. One is just the subtle theme that Tien tends to find beauty in things that Kaladin finds dull. That's, of course, kind of the metaphor. But Tien also was a budding Lightweaver, and he saw color and light a little bit differently than other people did. And he has the same general effect that you'll see Shallan having on people, which is how the Lightweaver views you influences a little bit more how your mood is, and things like that... And there is a magical element to that, as well. There's both a metaphoric reason and an in-world reason."

@@larry-xm3lp there will be a ~5-10 year break between book 5 and 6
@Syvak4 ай бұрын
In general, no the pace won’t increase. The Stormlight novels are huge and take a long time to write. Brandon then needs a break to rejuvenate himself so he can write the next one. There just isn’t much way to increase the speed due to how exhausting each book is. 3 years between Stormlight books is likely the fastest it will be. The 4 year gap this time is partly due to the extra size of book 5. The gap between book 5 and 6 will be longer. He is writing at least 5 books before he does Stormlight 6, so it’ll be 5-6 years at least. (He is writing Mistborn era 3 books 1-3, and Elantris books 2-3.)

All they want to do is push their ideologies. Trying to honor the material or do a great adaptation with the intention of entertaining without an allusions to their ideologies was never even considered. They didn't care. So I don't care. I'll watch good adaptations like One Piece, like Reacher, and so on. But I'm not wasting a single dime on them trying to force feed me an ideology I will never agree with.

I'm hoping that the zeitgeist is changing quickly enough that this idiotic PC/cancellation culture is about to fold in on itself permanently and powerfully enough that the businessmen of the world will tell anyone and everyone promoting it or trying to take advantage of it for their own personal gains to go *expetive deleted* themselves and will stop trying to shove these things invented to corrupt us down our throats. I hope I clarified my meanings well enough. But if not... please say so.
