Older guys would come to pick up their girlfriends in high school all the time. I don’t have a dog in the fight, however, this sort of relationship is not uncommon in other countries & yes even here in the US. All they have to have is the parents permission which they apparently gave their approval. For example, if they wanted to get married during that time, they could have legally as long as the parents consented. I have great aunts who were married @ 14 & had children as teenagers.
