This was actually an excellent walkthrough of the car! I've been to far too many dealerships that couldn't care less about EVs so it's nice to know there are at least some dealers out there eager and excited about them. My only remaining question about the car is about towing - how do I get towing stuff installed etc. I pre-ordered this car as soon as I could back in June, I have a test drive here in Ottawa on Wednesday and I can't wait to get my car which should be built in January! I'm the VP of our local EV council and do a lot of public outreach events and I plan on getting an electric BBQ and cooking using the power from the car at the EV events. I think it would be fun and a good demonstration of what EV's can do that fossil cars can't so I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who plans to hook a BBQ to the car!! lol

Haha! I can't wait to get a vehicle with Vehicle to Load, so that I can do a LIVE video like this, while cooking burgers on my electric bbq!! Yeah, our dealer group doesn't shy from EVs at all. They've been great for us! As far as a trailer hitch, you'll probably have to check with your local dealer. They may not be available at launch, but I would expect them to make their way to production this year.

Having just bought two new vehicles in the last 16 months, it's going to be a few years before we're in the market again, but I can EASILY see this (or an EV6!) replacing our Equinox until Hyundai figures out an E-GMP version of the Santa Cruz. This actually has the range we need for our commute (200km/day) and with the charge times that 800V system is capable of, heck, it would even be a good road tripper. This may be the EV tipping point for me, even if we have much more limited infrastructure up in this end of the province. Looking forward to seeing more about it! (And an EV6 when you get the Kia version! Can't wait for a side-by-side of the siblings.)

Picking ours up on Tuesday, can't wait to go through all the features. The only thing I don't like is the location of the charging port, which means we will have to back up the car into the driveway. We're also coming from a Soul EV, which with the port in the front it was easy to charge (even though in Canadian winters it required 2 people to open the frozen door).

Any word on why they didn't include the drawer style glove box? Seeing that on the European spec I thought it was a great idea. It would have been cheaper for them to leave that for all specs rather than changing it for North America. I really wish they had put that minor expenditure towards something that mattered like a rear wiper.
@nixquev
@nixquev 2 жыл бұрын
North American markets apparently required bigger gloveboxes (not sure if there are even regulations for that) and the drawer hinges diminished the volume available. I also would have liked the drawer:(

Hi Peter. I'm a brand new, very happy, owner of the Ioniq 5 here in the Ottawa area. The RWD smaller battery trim. So far I love it - I simply LOVE the drive, the ride - but you have to respect my learning curve has been humungous, having gone from a 2005 Hyundai Accent (roll-down windows) to this. Your detailed videos are great and I have two points. One big question: There is a "winter" setting for the battery, to protect it against the cold. At what temperature should I turn it on or off? 2nd point - sorry, but having now driven it for about 2 weeks in winter crud, it absolutely needs a rear windshield wiper. I appreciate the aerodynamics, I clean it every time I start out, I use RainX on it, but it is not enough. The grunge of the streets coats it in a way that makes rear viewing bad! And, yes, I saw your short video about it. I disagree and will be letting Hyundai know.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 2 жыл бұрын
I think we're on the same page about the wiper. It would be nice, but it shouldn't keep anyone from buying the car. As far as the "winter setting" I don't have the specs in front of me, but based on the previous generation electric vehicles, that is something that is activated at -10 degrees. I would leave it on in the winter, but again, I just want to do a little more research to make sure I fully understand the feature before I go to far with the comments.

I'm going to pick up my Hyundai IONIQ 5 very soon (in Jan. 2022), my questions are : 1/ How the 12V battery keep fully charged (from the BIG batteries with adapter) ? 2/ Is it come with the first 2 years free of charge (in dealer or public chargers) ? 3/ How wallet on wheel works ? 4/ If vehicle equipped with 360 cameras then can it auto recording 24hr if I installed a USB stick ? Thanks.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 2 жыл бұрын
It's probably best to check with your dealer on those. It sounds like you're American, and we don't have free charging here. So that will be different where you are. The 12 volt battery will take care of itself in the EV, so that's not a concern. The 360 cameras can not record anything at this point. I don't know if they've planned for that feature in the future or not.

F'in Excellent having a cold beer watching this. You can sleep in the back Bjorn Nyland has shown that! Exactly how I ordered and will receive very shortly, hope demo is what I expect!! Cyber Grey colour? Looks like my EV6 deposit will be refunded. Hopefully frunk insert is incorrect. Auto handles , bonus, too bad no rear wiper that is a flaw, best we can do is use a glass coating to improve the stick resistance. Does it have the double pane glass on front D&P windows?. Hoping the stereo is not too bad as it is not the upgrade BOSE of the Ultimate. I am fine w wired AA, I don't really care about that. $23K less than a Model Y, this car is killing it, I realize it is not a sports car nor overly quick as a Tesla M3, it is more leaning to hot large hatch?? Loads of value, reality is those in Europe have had since Aug, I read a post of a guy loving it having put 15K on already , recurring comments are quality is very good and it took automobile of the year in European magazines. The key is going to be proper software support, that what will tell its long term future draw. Thanks for posting the video., styling is killer.

Apparently the small frunk even though it's not AWD and could be bigger is a Canadian thing. There's a transport Canada thing that says if you have a trunk over X liters, a kid can crawl in and get stuck so there must be a lever to open from inside. Hyundai's solution for the trunk ? Make it smaller to be under X liters. Not their fault;) Also, the gap between the trunk and the folded backseat is at the perfect spot to insert the pedals of a bicycle and can be an advantage.

It all depends on the mileage.. Looks like awd only give 250 miles and the other thing that scares me in this video is that in the beginning when the gentleman was showing it was showing 499 km and within few mins of him keeping the car idle and talking it dropped to 380 something in eco mode when he was moving it little bit for charging.. So probably the car was idle running for 20 mins at that point i think.... Also he safely showed the trunk space he did not mention about the illusion of space.. of course it will fit the teddy bear but if you keep suitcases you can only keep it very close to the back seat and if it extends slightly outside or close to the back, you will not be able to close the trunk door... What i m trying to say is that the space is not real when the door is closed fully on the back. So for the price i am not sold for the miles it gives and i can ignore the trunk space part... That is what i see as many others might too.

I can explain the range drop that you saw. It predicts differently with different drive modes, and with things like heat and fan speed use. If the ENTIRE trip was going to have that much heat required or fan speed, than the predicted range will drop. What I find with my EV is that once the vehicle has reached temperature, and the fan speed returns to normal, the range is restored. I hear what you're saying with the trunk space, but I'm trying to be as clear as I can with things. I won't hide from things. If you want me to use luggage in the future, I'd be happy to do that. Finally, we have to acknowledge that there is going to be a learning curve to understanding these cars. Sometimes customers make assumptions about what they read, or see in a video, and that can easily be explained away with full context. I can tell you that I bought an EV as my SECONDARY vehicle two and a half years ago because it didn't have the range that I thought I would need, but it has very quickly become our primary vehicle for just about everything that my family does. I'm not saying it's right for you yet, but I will say that you might be surprised, so do yourself a favour and try to keep an open mind about things, because you may find that you'll love it sooner than you expected to if you understand everything.

First time EV shopper here: When charging in a driveway, is it okay to have the garage door closed with the charging cable underneath, or should I leave the garage door open a crack for the cable?
@BrantfordKia

I'm sure that the proper answer is to say to stop the garage door from pinching the cable, but I can tell you that we have many customers who just allow their garage door to shut on the cable without any issue. I think best practice, if you're shutting the door on the cable, would be just inspect the cable regularly to make sure that you're not rubbing it against abrasive things that could cause premature wear of the cable.
