I love your videos, you explain everything in detail as if you did all the mistakes yourself at one point. Thank you very much for teaching a random noob!

Hey thank you so much!! And that’s exactly why I explain things the way I do. Haha I’ve made so many mistakes working on my bike. I love to try to help prevent people from making them as well. Always happy to help man

Thanks for this clip. I have a Bluebird chain and wondered how to get that clip off from the quick link. The pliers trick worked a treat for removing and installing. Removed the half link to dial in the length. Chain is perfect now! LEGEND!

Thanks this is a great in depth video. The other video I watched didn’t mention any of the important stuff you did and unfortunately I broke my chain and made it too short and I don’t have a vice so I had to just put it to the side for now. I have another cheap replacement coming with a master link and I’ll be using your method this time for sure ! Hopefully I get it right lol😂

I did exactly what you did. Getting my old chain off was super simple. The brand new chain pin WOULD. NOT. COME. OUT. my whole tool broke and is now bent. Frustrating.
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 4 жыл бұрын
Yea unfortunately you have to have a pretty heavy duty chain breaker for some chains and anything else just breaks or bends very easily. Have had many people break my previous chain breakers because of it.

@@Brant_Moore I knew I should have gotten a better tool. I got a cheap one. The process looked so simple i thought nothing of it =(

@@babakazi808never ever go cheap on bike stuff. I learned that the hard way. Broken parts, stolen bikes due to buying cheap locks, it’s just not worth it bro. Go hard or go home if you’re gonna do bmx and build a bike you love make sure to do it proper and don’t penny pinch. Trust me. You’ll be happier with it in the long run and avoid much frustration

@@babakazi808I know this comment is from a while ago but if you’re looking for a good chain tool they have one on Amazon for about 20$ it comes with a hook for measuring the chain when you put a new one on, and it also comes with an extra pin so if you bend one if you mess up and don’t line stuff up perfectly, you can replace it.

to be honest, after watching this, im afraid to work with chains. i paid too much for my chain to mess it up, i rather go to a bike shop and pay them. great video tho :D

How's the keychain holding up b rant?hear it creaks on some setups and rusty easily ?
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 6 жыл бұрын
This is my second one and it’s still sooo much better than the shadow chains I had before. Neither of them rust and there is some creak no but it’s mostly because I’m using a sprocket and driver with stretched teeth. Once lubed it goes away until it needs lubed again. Honestly it’s a good way to be reminded that chains do need maintenance and lube.

Nice vid and chain idea from Odyssey. Hoped you would show how to tension chain and align back wheel when having a brake installed :) this is I think the hardest part of maintenance on BMX bikes. Would love to see detailed truly working tips :) Thinking of chainlength though I belive its possible to find some funny equasion for proper amount of links if you know chainstay to BB length, sprocket size and driver size too.

I do have a video on centering your back wheel. It’s in the tips & tricks playlist. Chain tension is somewhat personal preference. People like their chain with different amounts of tension.

Do you have to have the chain super tight or loose?
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 4 жыл бұрын
Personal preference. Super tight can cause wear and tear on your sprocket and hub. Super loose will just ding up the paint on the frame. Just depends on what you want

I like the keychain, it's a cool idea but I was disappointed that you needed a chain breaker in the beginning anyway. For me, as an old old school rider, the old master link is best. The thought of the chain touching anything during a trick is foreign and means you fked up, lol. Interesting stuff though.
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 6 жыл бұрын
I dont think we will get away from using a chain breaker at least once on a chain. Just because people use different chainstay lengths on frames as well as different depth drop outs. Theres also different sprocket sizes. Unless they made very specific length chains for very specific circumstances.

13:24 does it matter at all? It's the pins and the outer plate of the master link that are carrying the tension, the clip is just holding them in place.
@Brant_Moore
@Brant_Moore 3 жыл бұрын
With the direction the chain moves while pedaling, If you put it facing the other way there’s a chance that something could catch it and pop it off
@KamenMinkov
@KamenMinkov 3 жыл бұрын
@@Brant_Moore Fair enough, but if something hits the chain as hard as to pop off the clip, I'd be concerned for the chain anyway. Also one could argue that putting it the way you showed could make it easier to pop off while it's on the bottom half (where the open end would face forward), especially while grinding - if you do grinds on the drive side. I know you've been riding for some time. Have you ever had that clip come off while riding?

I don’t use chains with a conventional master link. Many people who ride BMX don’t trust master links in general
