A really fantastic vehicle for them. If they skated later in the competition, their marks likely would've been higher. Judges always come out of the gate conservatively.

While generally Miskutienok & Dmitriev are a much superior pair I really feel they should have won the original program here. The original program is about elements first and presentation second and their elements were clearly stronger. Much stronger twist, much stronger lift, their double axels were actually much better this program than M&D's where hers was tiny, out of unision, and in fact two footed, M&D almost collided on their spins and went off unision so based on that B&E's were stronger despite the slowness. B&E had a back outside death spiral very well done, while M&D had a great forward inside but which is a much easier one. M&D I would say had the stronger pairs spin, footwork sequence, and spiral sequence, but B&E weren't weak in any of these either. And the presentation marks were almost the same, M&D won mostly on higher element marks which had no merit on this day.

@@travisstrong5389 exactly right but look at the way russian big names are always preferred. Petrenko over Wylie same Olympics, Gordeeva Grinkov over Miskotunek and Dmitriev in 1994 (the latter were clearly better, G&G were just prettier to look at frankly) Berezhnaya and Sikurulidze over Sale and Pelletier in 2002. THe absurd placing of Baiul over Bonaly in 1993. Judges have biases.
