Nice playing! Brat is one tough game and I completely agree with your description! The game still looks insanely difficult even now, but back when I was 13 I found it impossible (I'd barely even used a mouse before). Just controlling the baby alone is hard enough, WITHOUT all those cars, and worrying about the scrolling. And it's a shame because I always really liked this game. I loved the intro and the character, I liked the idea for the game, and loved the music. The game had so much potential. It just needs a bit of tweaking. Here are some things I would change about it… • The scrolling should always follow the baby, rather than auto-scrolling down. • Like you say, it would have been helpful if the whole of the current square was highlighted, to clearly see where stuff was going. • Having a slight grid on the ground would have helped to clearly see the baby's path. • When the baby is stopped, and you tell him to move again, he should respond IMMEDIATELY. The whole point of stopping him is to time his movement! • Instead of having to keep picking controls from the side of the screen, I would have made it so that right clicking always drops a "stop", clicking on blank space always drops a bridge, and left click always drops an arrow. To choose the arrow direction, you just keep the button held down while moving the cursor away, and the arrow follows your cursor. Let go of the button to commit. • That first level might have been OK as a final level, for experts, but there should have been loads of much easier levels first, to get you used to the controls and gently build up your skills. • Fair enough, there was a password system to continue from the last level you reached - the trouble is that most of us never got through the first level. Level 1 is too long and there was no need to divide it into two "stages". They should have been two separate levels! • You get to level 2 and… the graphics don't change? How odd! I've seen screenshots from the game showing some really nice looking levels with green grass and pools. Presumably they're way later on in the game. I doubt many people ever got to see those graphics! I'd like to think that someday, someone will release an improved version of this game. I might even do it myself if I can. I am hoping to create my own games console one day! :)

Very good insights, I completely agree with your suggestions. I tried some passwords and remember the theme changes for every 2-3 levels. It's a shame those "late game" graphics and level designs were more or less wasted :(

Yeah. It would have been more engaging with shorter levels, more scenery variety, and maybe more tunes - a bit like Lemmings :)

Totally agree. Game had nice music and stuff but game itself was horribly brutally difficult.

As a kid, I finished the first half of he first level (after many tries.) I never realized you could pause the scrolling, that sure would’ve helped..

@@annmonica2253 Is there a possibility of you recording such a playthrough? I don't mind if it's a no-commentary longplay or something with commentary, but I'd really love to see all of this game in which I only barely made it to the first checkpoint with countless retries.

@@Martin-uw5du I don't have a copy at the moment. It's my voice on the loading page and my son Luke Ufnowski. I'll ask him if he has a copy. I finished it several times while play testing it. I think there's a test copy in a drawer somewhere for the Amiga. It was a very long time ago.
