This. Separate the art from the artist. I'm a 1975 fan for the music, not for the band members. Also the Rina situation totally sucks 😞, however if you sign a contract with a label that includes your masters, you have to take a level of responsibility for your own decision to do so, including who will own those masters, not throw a (albeit iconic) tantrum on stage about it and not expect some repercussions from that. Back when I lived in London I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Vroom Vroom Ep launch Party. The venue was a tiny club underneath a hotel with maybe 50 people in total (at most) including almost the Entire PC Music crew at the time! (AG Cook is like 7ft tall lol). Quick primer on Hudson Mohawke: One of the original trap-EDM/wonky guys back in the late '00s, basically a contemporary of guys like Rustie and Flying Lotus' alter ego Captain Murphy, very colourful and flamboyant stuff. He was in the duo TNGHT with the Canadian producer Lunice which produced some well-remembered bangers, although he's probably most infamous for "Cbat" which became a huge meme back in 2022 because of a particularly brain-destroying Reddit post. He's also done a bunch of beat work for various hip-hop artists and produced the entirety of Anohni's album Hopelessness of all things, but I admittedly still think of him as more of a rave artist. I don't expect people to just know this sort of trivia but infodumping about music is fun. ^~^;

OK, video completed, it was excellent, quick random thoughts: - I hope that Rina Sawayama wreaks terrible vengeance upon Matty Healy. I found him terminally annoying and pretentious well before he went headlong into his racist troll era and his label's treatment of Rina made me even angrier. You get his ass, girl. - I must confess that I'm not crazy about the original version of "1999" (albeit partly because Troye Sivan has yet to fully click with me), but from what I'm hearing of the remix from this set, it sounds fantastic, going further and further in exactly the ways I would have hoped. - Watching hyperpop evolve from this incredibly niche sound essentially developed by a tiny circle of friends posting songs on Soundcloud that made the snobs at Resident Advisor mald to an entire genre encompassing all these different little scenes with many of those original people going on to change popular music at large has been absolutely baffling and incredible. - I am really looking forward to this new record and to watching the full Boiler Room set myself. Love this sort of nigh-Dionysian chaos. - This platform needs more of whatever this is, breaking down a single DJ set/concert/party and using it as a way to discuss not only a single artist's career but an entire scene and what it feels like to experience the current of musical history in real time. Candace Owens calls a lot of racist things 'not racist'. Just because you are a POC doesn't mean what you say, goes when it comes to racism.
