They were 2 days from disbandment when the military version propelled this to #1 (I think based on what I read). You should check out the military version...its happy chaos. Do you know what songs/groups are really making a splash besides the charts? Dance covers. I'm a huge fan of them and one day I just noticed covers from taiwan, vietnam, europe, russia, the us, korea...all over the place. Then the reactions...it was crazy. We ride is low key another amazing drive song. Just hit play, roll down the windows and drive. Great selections and reaction.

Yuna is the woman with the bob cut hair and a very nice voice. Minyoung’s voice is awesome, but Yuna has a deeper more sultry timbre that I really like. I wish Yuna would get more lines.

(long comment ahead bc i love these girls and i love talking abt them) regarding their company- brave entertainment is owned by brave brothers who's known for making hits for groups like aoa. he (yeah he's one dude 😭) actually really put effort into brave girls, but it takes a lot more work when its your own group (as opposed to making a song while another company handles all the logistics of budget filming albums etc)... its a bunch of factors like timing and budget and brave ent being a small company while there could have definitely been much better management decisions made, brave brothers does genuinely care about brave girls. the girls themselves talked about how he would pay for their dorms and give them allowances even when they didnt have comebacks, and when they Did have comebacks he would personally try to talk to like broadcasting staff to give them a time slot to promote bc they really werent that popular... he was the one who encouraged them to stay strong and aim to release one last album when they wanted to disband! its just that a lot of circumstances and odds were against them for a long time 😭 ALSO (sorry for the long comment) a big part of why rollin didnt exactly blow up is that the concept was sooo far away from the song lol like when the members heard it they were excited and hoped it would be a hit, but then the company said the concept would be sexy vampires and they literally said their reaction was "oh we're screwed..." so yeah

Yeah I'm very happy you ended up loving both! We Ride was on repeat last year for me for sure. I know I gave you a lot on the request but I didn't want to give away too much about the songs themselves. You are right that the girl with the short hair is the same, that's Yuna my bias (and since you brought them up, PD's as well). The red hair girl you mentioned is Minyoung, the main vocalist. She's the "fancy" one in We Ride with the wine and fancy dinner and roses (9:48). Brave Girls were always noted for their live vocals even before they blew up, and Minyoung is a massive part of that reputation. Well, even more wild shit since I made the request: Rollin is getting PAKs AGAIN, they are now the girl group with the most PAK hours in history, passing Twice (who had 4 combined songs for 197 hours). Rollin also became the girl group song with the most days at #1 on the Melon Daily chart with 31 days (numbers 2-5 are DDU-DU DDU-DU - Blackpink, TT - Twice, Cheer Up - Twice, and Rough - Gfriend. Rollin is also the most streamed song of the 2021 on Melon (just passed Dynamite recently) and is also the most liked GG song of all time on melon (Surpassing again DDDD - BP, Red Flavor - RV, Cheer Up - Twice, and AIIYL - BP). And if they keep going on the weekly thing where they just tied Gee and make it to a 6th week atop the Melon Weekly Chart, theyll be tied with Nobody by Wonder Girls! (and its looking likely) Its just wild that its still going. They will be having a comeback with an EP in June and are going to be releasing a digital single in collaboration for Lotte's Song For You project on May 5th!

They can do any concept but they succeed at the powerful fun elegant mature sexy style. They are all so talented and likable. I think that's partially why they are so popular still.

So many questions, and so many paths we could go down. OK, easy one first. The girl (woman) with the red hair in the Rollin MV you watched was Minyoung and she is their Main Vocal, and rightly so. Such a good voice. I hesitate to call them “girls” because their maknae (Yuna, she has the bob cut hair) is 28. Not that is a bad thing, I find it refreshing that these women are mature enough to be comfortable in their own skin and hopefully will be able to handle their newfound fame. Rollin is getting all the hype right now, but let’s talk about “We Ride”. When I heard the first 20 seconds of that tune, I immediately thought of late 70s “Cool Jazz” or “Smooth Jazz” or what I call County Club Jazz. Think Chuck Mangione. Believe me, I know what I am talking about ‘cause I was THERE (yes, I am that old). Anyway, back then the style was considered Jazz Lite, but it totally works for BG now. Yeah, if every song BG did was in this style it would get old, but one song is cool vintage. rollin’ is like the best comeback story EVER, it really is heartwarming to see. one of the most fun things i found during this time is just every group ever dancing to this whenever they can!! my personal favourite example (obviously) is hongseok of pentagon dancing the 6:25 dance in most of their do or not stages hahah! and yes! dkb is under brave ent as well, my personal favourite rookies :)

OOOOOOOOH HELLO THERE!! I've dived deep in their discography just last week and was amazed by it, I highly recommend the 2 previous releases in Deepened and High Heels. Deepened is probably my favourite title track by them, the actual 4 members in the group right now were introduced with it, although it's better to say that the "first generation" of Brave Girls was dropping out for the most part. The High Heels mini album is absolute fire, I love all 4 tracks.

Originally the song was written by Brave Bros for AOA, but they turned it down, so he gave it to his own recently revamped group, only 2 of the original members remained, one soon left, the other has since left due to health reasons, leaving the four new members, the five of them took this song to virtually every Military base in South Korea, which is a lot of work for little reward until the viral video blew up and all the reservists started listening to it just like they did in the Barracks

The stars really seem to have aligned for Brave Girls, it's a fantastic story! And Rollin' is a great pop song, it absolutely deserves to be as big as it is. By the way, since you love that retro sound of We Ride, I'd recommend checking out Yukika. I just discovered her recently, and saw that many people call her the kpop "Queen of city pop". That type of sound isn't really my thing, but her music feels like something you'd be really into 👍

3:05 Yes, I agree. The production on “Rollin” (original version) is really good. (I’m gonna comment on some of Brave Brothers songs and this may sound critical, but it’s just my opinion. I am a Recording Engineer and Producer, so I have some experience. However, the number of hits BB has produced = dozens. The number of hits I have produced = 0. So my comments are humbly submitted.) BB has produced some really good songs, particularly for AOA, which he messes up by putting in some random synth sound or overproduction. Listen to “Really Really” or "Can't Sleep". But with BG “Rollin” production is simple which allows the vocals to come through beautifully. I’d cut back on the kick some to allow the vocals to shine even more. Yes, I know it’s gotta have a good beat, but it would sound better with less kick. Fortunately, the original version of “Rollin” is what BG performs most of the time. There is a re-mix of “Rollin” that is not nearly as good. The re-mix suffers from Brave Brothers worst tendencies.

Yeah, the biggest travesty in the Rollin’ (New Version) is its replacement of the original “Stingray” dance break with an early ’80 Steve Winwood-esque sax riff that just ruins the mood. I have nothing against the sax, in fact I play saxophone. But this sax solo does not work. The original mix has the brilliant light synth counter melody which is the perfect musical expression of the joyful Stingray dance moves.

AOA has some really good song written by Brave Brothers and others. Some of their B-sides I prefer to their hits. Unfortunately, the AOA story is as tragic as the Brave Girls story is happy.
