Personally I think this goes back to the selection processes used by Cameron, which has led to the current mess. Where they're now scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to finding suitable candidates to take over the leadership. Sadly, the ones that would have been best placed to lead the Conservatives were put in less safe seats and are no longer at Westminster. Dark times almost certainly lay ahead for them.

Watching the extremists within the Tory Party is entertaining in the short term, and it will hopefully result in the adults stepping in and returning the Conservatives to the control of the one-nation group. The government needs a stable opposition for Parliament to be as effective as possible.

I am more concerned with what is going on in the U.S. at the moment. How long before Biden withdraws his candidacy, and is Donald Trump going to choose Nikki Hailey as VP in a surprise move, and hoping to keep some female Republicans, should Harris replace Biden, or moderate Republicans and independents more worried about Biden's health than Trump being Trump? Neither of the three tipped VP favorites, JD Vance, Doug Burgum or Marco Rubio, will win Trump new ground - something he could come to need if confronted by a younger, and even female, Democratic choice. It is unwise of George Clooney to go out against Biden while the NATO sumit is in session. He should have waited until the weekend. I have thought for a while now Biden will withdraw, but will do so on Monday, to steal attention from Trump's VP presentation. Who cares about what the Tories do. The leadership election isn't going to start until the autumn. With so much misery the right has caused for the Tory party - and some of their key players no longer in Parliament, Truss and Rees-Mogg, I think the right will have a harder time mobilizing a majority. More likely, I think, they will opt for someone like Victoria Atkinson or Tom Tugendhat. Defence being a key issue thesedays, my guess will be Tugendhat. His wartime experience from Iraq and Afghanistan counting for a lot when the main focus likely will be on defence and the military.
