Bravo III Corrosion Remediation & Painting Fall 2015

This time around we sandblasted the drive (vs. sanding) and used JB Epoxy to fill the voids. Sanding the epoxy was a pain but results were well worth it. We used the Alumaprep33 and Alodine to prep the bare aluminum, then two coats of epoxy primer, paint and a clear coat finish. I hope you changed the water pump impeller while it was out and before doing the paint work. Also, be super careful with Alumiprep and especially Alodine as they have a list of health hazards. Handle with proper gloves and follow PPE guidelines to stay safe! Looks much better!!!

Have pitting and want to take care of it? I used this product 20 years ago and it is exactly what one needs to prep after cleaning and before painting. Amazing product. Its a two part Alu and epoxy mixed then applied and sanded smooth Devcon 10610 Aluminum Putty (F), 1 lb. Can

Good catch Mark! When we purchased the boat the port side had two anodes on the cavitation plate and the port only had one. I called the original dealer regarding warranty work and they confirmed that one lower unit had been replace - which is why they are now different. I added the propshaft anode on both drives last season. After one full season the starboard drive showed no corrosion and the paint was in perfect shape.

Dont sand blast , the silica causes paint not to stick well, use soda blast then alodine it

The reason why 2 of the drives where different is because one dive is from a 99 and the other is a newer style. But my question is how did you add a prop anode to the drive that has a single cavitation plate?

There is aftermarket nut for Bravo3 propsaft that allows you to attach anode to pre-2004 drive. Quicksilver 809666A02

Pre-2004 Bravo3 only had one cavitationplate anode and no propsaft anode.
