Here is NACE Level 3 inspector notes : 1) Scrape all Barnacles and loose growth off the hull first 2) Pressure wash the hull fresh potable water @ 3000 PSI 3) Now you are ready to blast, Remember prior to coating application to test steel hull with a CSN test kit or a the least use a Kittagwa tube. For Soluble Salts. Should be no more than 3 PPM soluble salts. The CSN tests for chlorides,Sulfates,Nitrates. Blasting all the marine Growth and unwashed hull contaminates into the steel is not recommended as it imbeds in the steel and painting over it is a major cause of coating failure. Any coating Data sheet should outline this ,and prior to work commencing should be reviewed with coating applicators.

@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 7 ай бұрын
@MegaBait1616 yeah to use as a media as its got free sillica (sillica sand/kiln dry sand) tests was done and they found its a lead course for silicosis its best just to use approved media's that way they can tax us properly on the media instead of sweeping up some grit off the ground and siving the dirt and using free media 😂
@americanrambler4972
@americanrambler4972 11 ай бұрын
What becomes of the blast media you use on the job? Is it one and done, or is the media recovered, cleaned and reused? Or can it be used for other tasks? That looks like a fair amount of left over stuff to just send to a land fill with no other applicable use.

I'm not sure about the canal systems I think they can go almost everywhere the narrow 1s do but I'm unsure to be fair. Yes definitely worth the investment and I like to see a different when I spend money but you will find it hard to find the 950 needed for 400cfm I've got the 850 and the next hit is 1050 ya need 500cfm I believe for that. Don't fall for the sales pitch of they add power that's bolx but they do add reach well they keep the cone tighter for longer so it will feel more power as the overspray is reduced and the hotspot is hotter 👌👍 they add about ft extra reach compared to a standard nosel

Depending on the humidity and if you can keep the steel dry it will last days even weeks before flash rusting appears I've had an old lambretta frame sitting in the unit for almost a year and it was still fine obviously the type of metal plays a part in this as cast iron flash rusts near instantly after blasting with very little humidity. But rolled steel seams to have a good resistance to flash rusting

A laser doesn't provide a profile for your paint to grip to media blasting makes a rough surface for paint to get maximum adhesion to the steel

Whys it a no no? I'm shooting clean media not reusing the media that's the only reason I can see it been a problem 🤔
@vinegum8835
@vinegum8835 7 ай бұрын
@@Mobileblaster I know many people thinks that... so: Because you are shooting salt and other substances (grease) into the steel and especially when using grit. Worked many years as a certified blaster/ painter on oil rigs and on land, and the way to find out the right conditions within spec, is to measure: Purity, steel roughness and humidity by taking samples. (Moisture meter, purity fluid test etc Including condense in the blaster, air, temperature. This is on a microscopic level, but still critical. You should also try to keep a greater blasting distance when possible for best results. Purity and economically.. (Excuse my English)
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 7 ай бұрын
@vinegum8835 distance will be determined by the cfm and psi and the nosel if I pull back anymore the hotspot would be weeker so in turn slower progress. When blasting with clean media so long as the steel is clean it's way more than the paint manufacturer recommends. Blasting will remove all contamination (old paints salts filler canal silt algi etc etc) steel profiling or moisture screening isn't applicable even the paint manufacturer doesn't spec a mesh grade. All it says is to remove flacky lose paints and key the serface. And they put a 4 year warranty on the product if they are so confident in their serface preparation instructions I'm sure going well over board by removing all the old pint and in turn getting a mesh grade profile perfect for most to all paint based coatings will be expectable 👌 off shore blasting is a different kind of blasting I know this as I've blasted the control bases for wind turbines before and the specs needed was on another level 😏
@vinegum8835
@vinegum8835 7 ай бұрын
 A warranty means nothing if you have a greasy underlay, humidity in the hose or air. Offshore or inland makes no difference.and frankly, I'm surprised that you'r even questioning these facts. Anyway, it's not critique, just suggestions so just keep doing what you do, it will not corrode immediately, but you would never pass a job without washing first here in Norway... 🙂 All the best and thank's for sharing!
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 7 ай бұрын
@vinegum8835 it really makes no difference whatsoever if its been washed off beforehand or if the blast pipe has moisture init well if the steel is brilliant bright white then that's should tell any blaster that it's acceptable also leaving millscale is acceptable. If you had moisture in the lines you wouldn't be able to get a clean finish it would oxidise and leave the job tea stain colour same if salts was still present. Washing the job off before would only make any difference if the splash was fired directly on to another area that's been blasted and wasn't rectified but I wouldn't get paid if I left such areas. And take steps to blast at an angle to push the crap away. If a paint manufacturer is offering a 4 year warranty with vague preparation instructions then that tells me going over the top will indeed be good enough
