He was talking about persistent worlds, like footsteps staying behind and the world changing as you play, this was never really realized on the N64 but it was something Nintendo wanted to do with Ocarina of Time amongst other games, it didn't work out in the end since the N64 had to be expanded - it did but the N64DD flopped so no games came out with this feature.

@@F0nkyNinja 64DD flopped only because Nintendo wanted it to -- the hardware was ready for Spring 1996 but they delayed it to December 1999 to get the internet service working, and even then, it was mail-order and you had to subscribe to Randnet. It could have succeeded if Nintendo let the internet service come out later on.

Why won't freaking Nintendo release this beta version of Super Mario 64 from Space World 1995!
@aeonicbutterfly96627 жыл бұрын
There's really not much point, TBH. Nintendo doesn't work that way. Few publishers do, really. There's two exceptions off the top of my head, and they are SEGA, who wanted to release their TGS version of Sonic 1, but couldn't find the ROM, and Apogee/3D Realms, who released prototype versions of their gaming classic, Shadow Warrior. For the most part, there's little interest in it besides a niche community, and the product they released is how they want the game to be seen.
@radornkeldam6 жыл бұрын
Also, there's no real money to be made for the effort of digging it up and dusting it off so that it's something usable. And they are paranoid about giving up potential game/feature ideas. Miyamoto and company hoard all their creative juices always trying to find some way to make them into a game. I'm not saying they are 100% right with that or that these ideas are so excelent, that's just how they work. They see very little to gain and much to potentially lose in releasing these things, and, honestly, it's hard to argue against that.
