Bravo1 LT is a better survival knife than Bravo1

My specific survival situation will be in winter mountain hunting. Assuming the real critical case I need my survival knife fine batoning and feathersticking capability more than hard splitting capability. I've decided to carry Bravo1 LT always with me for winter hunting pairing with Silky Pocketboy 130.

Please review the latest Bravo 1 LT in Cru-ware (CPM's answer to Elmax). Mike Stewart of Bark River said that Cru-ware is as tough as 3v and is far superior to 3v in terms of wear resistance. Sounds like an IDEAL survival/bushcraft toy to me.

Doctor, I don't think birch is good wood to compare batonning. It's because birch splits very easily, much easier than other woods.

Thanks! This answers whether I get the Magnacut bravo lt, or wait for something else in magnacut. I get this! What do you recommend for a hard use survival knife? I'll use the BRK bravo for hunting only, but want something for general camp stuff and the like. Would an esee be good, or should I get something less huge (than like an esee 5 or 6)?

how would you compare a bushcrafter 3v full height grind to a bravo 1 lt hunter 3v for a knife to do everything hunting, bushcraft, cutting rope and all camp chores.
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 8 жыл бұрын
+midwestoutdoorsman The handle of Bushcrafter is a little thinner than that of Bravo1. And its contour is even weaker than Bravo1. So the handle of Bravo1 is more stable in the hand for powerful cut. Bravo1 is a better knife in my conclusion. Thanks.

Say Heah, Yeah, running out of daylight is the pit's. It happened to me. That's why I go prepared. I still trust the Bravo 1, a true tested and selected to be made by military group. I would agree to go lite for a hike, But I put my trust in a proven knife. I teamed my Bravo 1 in 3V with my Wicked Tough Saw and my trusted 2Hawks Warbeast Tomahawk as one of my Fav. Trio's, hand's down. I feel safe vebruring out in any weather, and I can carry my Trio on person with my Kodiak Gearsking, I can manage this set nicely, Plus with enough water. I carry a 38 oz S. S. Nalgene bottle and a quaet military canteen with S. S. Cup. My necessities pouch with my firework's, Bravo 1, Warbeast Tomahawk and Wicked Saw on my Survival Belt. All incidently made in the U. S. A., Olus my Kodial Gearsling which I like it's size, It's big. But there's a little difference between the Bravo 1 and Lt. so give me the proven knife, Thanx You. ,, .

@virtuovice
@virtuovice 3 жыл бұрын
I have a Bravo1.5 in 6mm thickness. It's a heavy knife and not suitable for feathersticking but suitable for batoning thick logs. I don't think 4mm thickness is enough for batoning thick logs. Actually for me Bravo1.25 is long enough.

Bravo1 is a little uselessly thick for its blade length for its target logs. Bravo1.25 really needs its thickness for its target logs. What the 4+1/4 inch Bravo1 needs is the LT thickness except for military survival purposes IMO. If you need the stoutest knife in the world and feel joy with it, you should not go to the other knives than the Bravo1 in full thickness. Then you never regret. Don't think of the other knives. Thanks.

Ádám Gál I got the Bravo 1.25 LT 3v had it modified to a drop point. 3v is hard to beat. You really don't need that extra thickness of the regular Bravo. Also for what you're wanting you should look at the LT Wright Genesis. The Genesis is my favorite bushcrafter. I love a spear point on a bush craft knife.

Out of curiosity Wako, do you carry a tent with you in the mountains, or would you have to build a shelter if you got stuck out there?
@virtuovice
@virtuovice 10 жыл бұрын
When I plan to spend a night in the river for trout fishing in summer, I always carry a tent. In case I lose my way back during winter deer hunting, I won't need to make a shelter because our rather complex land shape should have some spots where I can stay away from the wind. And I won't have enough power to make a shelter then. What I need to survive a cold night will be only making fire I assume. If I can gather enough amount of wood at a windless spot and ignite fire there using alcohol jelly which I always carry in winter, I will be able to survive. Anyway I need to try it near my car in cold winter actually to know if my plan is practical or not. Thanks.
