Honestly, as a veteran player, going for the meta picks gets stale very quickly, I'm looking at you Thunderer. Ships like the Austin and Sevastopol are fun and that's all I can really ask for from this game now lol.

I used Austin often in ranked matches where you could agressively contest caps with a dd and smoke support and often kill off or chunk down enemy dds in early cap engagements. If you play it right and watch out for radar this really works well. One of my last matches was a smoke combo with a sherman sitting in center cap and creating a no fly zone for the enemy cv and a SAP nightmare for enemy ships who dared to attack center.- its one of the rare ships that actually can defend a bit from cv.

I maintain that EVERY cruiser in the game needs some form of plate to bounce shells. Being unable to angle is just ridiculous and can in circumstances make winning impossible based on something you have no way to control.

You run the exact same build that I do except that I have Halsey on my Austin. She is so much fun! As you said, Bourgogne is the better all-around steel ship but, Austin, if played right can be one of, if not the best ship for pure unadulterated fun. Cheers!

Gods every time I see an Austin I just think of what San Diego could have been had people not bitched about her reload being to slow(it was like 0.5 seconds slower than Austin), because she had Austin's reload booster, but it lasted an extra 10 seconds. Now she gets a pissy little 33% booster with only 2 charges, no HE, and SAP that deals the damage of HE, making her AP funnily enough basically her go to ammo because even raking a superstructure it will deal more damage. The SAP only helps vs DDs. Oh what could have been for the number 1 ship. Sandy deserved better. Honestly that whole ordeal with San Diego is exactly why I wouldn't want the players balancing the game, because they took a ship that we already knew was good, and bitched that it would be underpowered 2 tiers lower because it had a 0.5 second slower reload and no heal. To be fair, Sandy likely wouldn't have been balanced on her original stats, she would have been very overpowered, but that could have been fixed by simply giving her the ammo she has now, leaving her still powerful but not able to melt BBs as easily. Or just you know, remove the SAP, that also would have worked. But no, the Atlanta class San Diego NEEDED a heal cried a lot of CCs and former CCs, she NEEDED a reload rate buff because oh no, she has a 8.5 second reload! Things like that just make me scoff now when I hear CCs and former CCs claim they could balance the game better than Wargaming, they can nerf ships better than Wargaming while thinking they are giving them a buff, but that's about it. I mean think about it, how many CCs would change nothing else about CVs other than remove the plane replenishment and say "jobs done boys, we've balanced CVs!" when all that would do is leave CVs like FDR and Kaga mostly unaffected, while killing off the tech tree CVs entirely, but that's balance in their minds. Though at the same time once they realize what they would do they would then shift to complaining that Wargaming is "just trying to push premiums!" because that's all that would be playable at that point. I just wish they would have left Sandy alone so we could at least have seen what Wargaming had planned for the ship before bitching it would be "underpowered", because it's safe to say Sandy is nothing special after all the bitching, her reload booster is nearly worthless, she's still an Atlanta hull so getting shot at still means death, she still only has hydro for utility even though it would make the most sense for the T8 Atlanta class to be the one with radar, she is fully reliant on her team, but she has an okay reload rate. I mean it's a whole second faster than Cleveland! A ship with guns that can pen 32 for more damage, and has radar, and has more HP, and has better armor, and has better AA, and you know is free. I'll stop rambling about San Diego now, I'm just so disappointed in that ship.

Austin imo, got both and i think ragnar is quite boring. Strong yes, but one dimensional. No torps basically make it a light cruiser plus they nerfed the reload so its not as OP as when it came out. For ranked i would still pick it tho because of the radar utility and sustain

two soyuz and a tirpitz ( all of em are good at close range ) are not pushin and the duncan crawling behind islands takin the cap instead using the speed boost flanking the position and put the enemy team on a crossfire , while yugumo exactly doin that instead crawlin behind islands and taking the cap who need enemies if you have a team like this

You game explains 99% of the time I play, people not pushing when they should, not reading yhe match, it's just not a fun ezperience. I remember a while back T5 ranked was super fun, the ranked now, it sucks.

YES! I have been saying this from the moment I got austin, noone respects how stupid it can be in close range brawls, I have bow in tanked entire flanks with it for minutes, its hillarious.

My best moment ever in an Austin.....I rolled around an island out of cover into a broadside Des Moines (full HP) who had no clue I was coming. Melted the ship entirely with SAP. I did not get a dev strike though, I did take one regular shot before pressing the fun key. Not sure if that is why. Whatever, doesn't matter. It was really fun doing that.

This playerbase never seems to get any better. Maybe its a result of no proper ranked mode and random battles as the main game mode, but man … i swear its like 90% of this playerbase has a WR% of less than 45 lol.

Unfortunately this ship is really bad, the base reload is just too long, and lack of any radar and smoke is really bad, all this ship has is a "funny button" but its nowhere near enough to justify its steel price
