Companies have to pay extreme high prices for computer hardware and software because of the high import taxes, there's no better local alternative (few countries have, to be fair) but this alone put brazillian companies behind competition. And everyone knows computers are basic necessities nowadays, like pen and paper. Also we have a poor education system and companies have a hard time finding competent workers, again hurting our chances to compete with foreign companies.. And Brazil is not a desired destination for foreign work force because of crime and poor salaries compared to other more desirable countries..

As a brazilian, I can definitely say the video is quite accurate for most things. Specially this feeling of like "okay, so right now we're kind of in a good place but, for how long?" All those ups and downs surely have tanked our country from rising further as a superpower but even so, might be because I live in São Paulo but I feel like this country shouldn't be underestimated at all for its potential to always rise above the problems, its like, we have the capability but something is always pulling us backwards. Still, I'm very optimistic for the future here! I have been abroad to some of the so called 1st world countries and right now, I wouldn't change the life and culture we have here for a slightly more stable place, lots of crazy things happening worldwide and in that regard, Brazil is way more stable if you consider war and political coalitions, just can't imagine Brazil going to war anytime soon in the future

The best political and economical analysis of Brazil on youtube. Clearly down to earth and knowing very well the historical facts that happened and why the country faced such a massive downfall. A series of crazy economical policies, lack of Rule of Law, insolent and lazy populous, Crony capitalism and a deeply corrupt political elite brought the country of Brazil down to the gutter. It is important to notice that Australia also lacks high tech industries. But it grew for over 25 years(till the pandemic hit) selling just commodities to China. I was born in 1989 and I never though or heard we would become a superpower. Once we were forced to open our economy because of IMF policies and lost a great part of our industrial complex that was it. Commodities are fine in Australia but we are 10 times more populous. Having an economy focused on exporting commodities is exactly what made Brazil the 9th most unequal country in the world, since farming and extraction of raw materials doesn't create many jobs and opportunities. Brazil feels just like a big farm with power centered in the hands of very few billionaires and politicians, while the rest of the population can't find a place to work, specially with college degrees. Going through a cia sponsored coup and being USA's backyard didn't help too. I think Brazil lost its window for industrialization and now it's too late to compete in any category that's not the primary sector. brain drain is a serious issue and the population is shrinking, It has no future.

I love my Brazil but we have a problem with human capital. Education is not good, even though the investment in it is not bad considering the share of GDP that is spent. So it means we spend it badly. Also, good workers are leaving the country, brain drain is a real problem with developing countries and it just makes everything worse. Brazil is in a pretty bad shape for the future, I fear for the country 20 years from now because if we don't get huge productivity leaps we are gonna have a serious problem regarding pensions since the country fertility rate dropped like a rock in a short period of time. It means our population will get old "quickly". We will be like Japan in terms of demography, but without Japan's productivity. Disaster is looming, unfortunately.

The problem is also the mentality of the population, which is anti-foreigner (xenofobic), and everybody wanting to be more ´esperto´ then your friend or neighbor. They think that being Brazilian is synonymous with being talented, the best in the world, or misceginated: they forget that the rest of South-America is similarly or more talented then the Brazilians. I'm Brazilian. I'm by no means a genius, but I try to study many fields that do interest me, and politics and history are two of them. When I study the past of my country, I can narrow it down to many problems with one root: the government. A few examples are: - The main media is state-owned and receives a large sum of money from it; - Most, almost every influencer and celebrity receives a fat load of money from left-wing governments (Rouanet Law) (Lula 2002 - 2010, Dilma 2010 - 2016 and Lula again since 2022; this point will be more explored later down); - The money allocated to welfare is simply faulty at its core - what sense does it make to invest three to four times more in superior education than its base? There are people entering high school barely being able to write and read their own name, unable to even multiply or divide numbers. And it's unfortunately not a few. The ones who get to an university think Lula did it great for them, and yet the infrastructure of many of the federal universities is old, vandalized or just innactive; - HUGE taxes in pretty much everything. When someone buy a house, a car and a smartphone in Brazil, they are paying literally half of the final price JUST IN TAXES. You also have to pay more taxes each year to every house and car you have (I don't know the exact house value, but the car one is 4% of its price at the start of the year), and 30 to 70% taxation in consumer goods, such as milk, chocolate, meat, cleaning products, even medicine. In Brazil, we don't have any bonbon anymore - it's all "bonbon-flavored chocolate wafer", because this way the company pays up less taxes. We pay the same amount of taxes some first world countries do, while we get the same healthcare, police and education as African or Southest Asian countries; - Unequality. Yeah, it's everywhere, but Brazil is something else. To be among the richest 10%, you have to earn 3400 monthly reais - 662 USD. Minimum wage is 1413 BRL, or 275 USD, yet everything is expensive. It's literally a debt trap, which so many people end up stuck having to overwork to pay humongous debts. And taking loans are not even an option, as taking 500 BRL can spiral down to over 200k BRL in a few years; - Brain drain. Most people in Brazil is either willing to leave this country for good or have come to terms with the situation and is happy living in poverty here until their last day. I really mean it. There are no true advancements in Brazil regarding technology and research, despite having one of the best particle accelerators in the world and the best located space launching point in the entire planet (Base de Alcântara), because scientists are humiliated by the people and very underpaid by the government. So, either there are accomplishments made by Brazilians abroad, or people come from abroad to use our stuff. - The illusion of a Republic. It may seem like we have three powers, but in reality it's far from balanced. Thankfully, Elon Musk did the heavy job and I don't really have to explain it in detail here, but this fight between Twitter and the Brazilian Supreme Court is, again, just one of the examples. Brazil is the one country that never loses an opportunity of losing an opportunity. It's been the "country from 20 years from now on" by the last 150 years. After Getúlio Vargas, a good tyrant we had, Brazil only fell deeper in the well. And ever since our military dictatorship, which ended in 1985, we only had one guy who knew what he was doing (Itamar Franco, the brilliant mind behind the Plano Real and responsible for dealing with the economic crisis cited in the video). The leftist government ruled by the Worker's Party (PT, Partido dos Trabalhadores) have only made Brazil sink in faster. All they do is populism, so they can brainwash some of the population into believing they are the good guys and do everything for the people, when in reality all they do is increasing taxes, making many promises but no actual doing (our Northeast was supposed to get water by 2010, and only actually got it in 2018 during Bolsonaro's term, as one of many examples), and increasing their own wage and benefits when most of the people work day and night, have more than one job and take all extras they can so they can barely survive with their family. And as I said before, they pay up the media and celebrities to talk them up, so it's really hard to break the shell and think for yourself here. Hell, even the schools teach people that Lula saved Brazil from poverty when in reality there could be anyone in his place just selling commodities to the world and bringing money inside. He did nothing. They can only stay in this position because there are many, many people who blindly follow their ideals, or are too ignorant to seek the truth and do rather believe in some empty beautiful words than actually making a difference for good. I always say to people here: immigrate. Go live somewhere else, because once you do, you won't want to come back, ever. It's an enormous pain to say this about your home country, but this place has no future. Corrupt politicians stole it from all of us, and yet some people defend them. So the only real option is to leave as soon as possible.

Our nation is like any other full of problems, but what happens is that we are still stuck in the past. Instead of concentrating our investments in science, technology and infrastructure, we use them for better management and tax collection, which could be put to good use, but this does not happen. In fact, we pay taxes and they do not return us in a positive way. Disastrous measures still make our country very dangerous in some regions, social inequality is always in the first place, public healthcare, although free, does not always provide good performance for the population. Although the country has returned to being one of the 10 largest global economies, GDP per capita has increased and the HDI remains the same, it still does not indicate new opportunities for the population. Every Brazilian dreams of one day being able to buy many things with at least R$150 (reais) or even having basic everyday things like being able to walk peacefully in the early hours of the morning like relatively stable countries like Germany, Japan, Korea of the South or the United States. But I have faith in GOD that we will be a developed country.

Simple math. You can't have more poor people than your middle class. The wage gap is huge compared to many top countries. Brazil was building a middle class that would compete with Canada and Europe, and Japan. But the new government came and cuts to social programs was hard felt by the largest portion of citizens. The difference is that the top countries in the world compare to places like Brazil. Is taxes, we paid income taxes, taxes on goods and services, and something taxes at the end of the year. Countries with low taxes are poor and have a lot of crime.
