My sentiments exactly bro! I’m an MMA guy & at my MMA gym (where I USED to train my jiu jitsu) we had a Brazilian professor. I love the guy, but that IBJJF point system means ABSOLUTELY nothing to me. My jiu jitsu is for fighting. So I had to leave Earth & land on 10th Planet.😎 Now I’m leg lock savvy & nobody calls me “strong” when I tap them lol. I wanna roll with you bro 💯 it might be one sided though, cause I’ll be the one learning from you.😁 I’m a striker bro😅

It’s never one sided to me. There’s always something to learn. I stay with having a open mind

I agree with you BUT ar age 54 No Gi is extremely hard for me. I train Jiu Jitsu for self protection and an decely athletic but these younger guys are faster in the scrambles. With the Gi on I can slow the pace down and get better control. Plus. In the streets people wear clothes and in winter jackets. Unless youre fighting alot st the beach or against topless guys no gi or mma 8snt that practical either.

Totally agree, i think doing both gi and bo gi can actually be good in specific cases (usually its rare that you have a no-gi school only, so fit as much training as you can no GI and do the rest gi on)

Gi and no gi are like 2 differents langages. But both can make you improve the other

Great summary and your intelligence and scientific approach to martial arts and wrestling is greatly appreciated. It is such an impact to see someone such as yourself in this arena that does not have such representation in a large segment of American media. It would be great to see more of you and your approach across a myriad of platforms, regardless if you continue as a practitioner or not because you bring a unique and specified technique-based commentary for "real-world" grappling and wrestling. Thank You and I will continue to follow for sure. God Bless!

This video contains some data that I think would refine some of your statements: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYWqiZ2wppuWfqc Submissions are alive and well in high level MMA today, but they are overwhelmingly done from top position. The BJJ rulesets don't encourage top position enough and so not enough jiu jitsu practitioners can get the fight to where they can use the top-game submissions. Winning with submissions off your back is not a reliable strategy in modern MMA.

Love the explanation. Please please explain why you think wrestling is overated with mma. I wrestle and teach folkstyle wrestling. I'm coming into or just now learning submission wrestling and I love it. But please explain why you think wrestling is overated to mma

Well Gi is less useful in MMA than no Gi. This is true because it is closer to MMA in term of rule set and attire. Personally, I never train no gi but planning to train more of it in a couple of years. To me, Gi is better in terms of defensive skill development and no gi is better for offensive skill development. It takes better technique to defend in Gi and similarly it takes better techniques to submit people in No gi. This is because of the speed and friction, you mentioned.

I think he’s using the term ‘useless’ too liberally. It’s not AS useful as other disciplines but it’s certainly not useless.
