Brazilian Lemonade
Ingredients
- 8 limes
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (approximately 14 oz or 397g)
- 2 cups ice (about 16 oz or 450g)
- 4 cups water (about 32 oz or 950ml)
Method
1. Wash and cut 7 of the limes into quarters. Place them in a blender along with the water, 1 cup (about 8 oz or 225g) of ice, and the sweetened condensed milk. Blend on high for 3-4 minutes until thoroughly mixed.
2. Fill a jug with the remaining 1 cup of ice. Squeeze the juice of the last lime directly into the jug. Strain the lemonade from the blender through a sieve over the ice in the jug to remove any pulp and lime rinds.

We have those fruit and veggie stands as well! Before my dad's friends moved they had one that said "pay what you can" she had set prices but she said to us "if they don't leave what the set prices are then I just assume they need it more than someone else" and almost everyone did pay and even leave extra but she never judged ones that didn't and I absolutely loved that. She had an immaculate garden too, I hope where they live now she still does.

Unfortunately you couldn't get away with such a thing in most places in the US. People steal shit just to go smash it down the street. They'll steal your bike to ride it 5 blocks down the street and then ditch it. Even the suburbs keep getting worse because they keep forcing "affordable housing" (aka criminal housing) into otherwise good neighborhoods.

btw,I have some friends there and my impression from what they were telling during the covid circus was that its one of the worst nazi places to be in such situation... I wont trade my freedom for any produce or fake smiles and superficial "prosperity" like that.Another friends in fact run away from there (to Sweden, with the whole family)because of the crazy restrictions and covidism crazyness and supression...

I believe in Brazil they are both called the same.. at least in South America we call the green lime “lemons” and the yellow ones “limes”. I enjoy the taste of limes way better so I still use them for everything and rarely use lemons living on the US.

It's called lemonade here because in Brazil the limes are called "limão" that are the equivalent to lemon in english. In portuguese lemonade is called "limonada".

Do the limes different. Use the zest instead of the whole rind and it takes away a ton of the bitterness of it. You cut out the pulp and, and zest it instead of chucking the whole lime in
@xenuprime1

I was thinking about that. The rind must add a lot of bitterness.

@@xenuprime1 ive made it a few times and i think its worth the extra effort to do your best to remove it. The zest adds a ton of flavor and the juice adds a ton of flavor, the rind adds an intense bitterness to the aftertaste. You could offset with a bit of extra sweetened condensed milk and sugar, but theres not really a need if you just dont add it in the first place

They're lemonades because "limes" are lemons to us and the lemons are "sicilian lemons". The "sweet limes" is what we call simply "lime". Confusing, yeah.

It’s called lemonade because in Brasil those are called lemons, and the yellow ones are limes! The green lemons (limes) are much more suited for growing in the Brazilian climate, and Brazilians pretty much substitute it and use it in any recipe that calls for lemons 🍋

This is probably going to get lost here but I have a story about Brazilian Lemonade. So last year I made some and it turned out really great and super refreshing. 9/10 I made a lot but it's kind of something you can't really drink too much of. It's good in small amounts. So I kept it in the fridge and after a day or so it started to separate. But I knew it was still edible and I don't want to through it out so I thought why not make it into a jello? So I heated (first mistake) it and added gelatin and an egg. Then I was like why not make it into like a key-lime pie? So I made a simple crust, added the filling and baked it (second mistake). When it was done I refrigerated it. It wasn't that it was bad but it just was super bitter 4/10. And again not wanting to through it out I decided to sort of repurpose it. I scooped out the filing, blended it with added sugar and then I crumbled the crust, stirred it together and froze it to try to make a sort of ice cream. The bits of the crust was really good and overall it was a better 6/10. Needed up eating it with some whipped cream and it wasn't so bad lol.

Idk about Brazil but in Mexico we tend to call both limes and lemon “limón”, at times lime might be called “lima limón” or we just end up differentiating the type by its color. Lemonade is “limonada” in Spanish and limes are more prevalent used there, so I’m not surprised to see Brazilian lemonade with limes.
