The Water level isn't new or uncommon it's used thru out the construction industry . In situations like Yaba a laser level wouldn't have been practical and a water level is much cheaper and takes no batteries . These shipwrights look rough and tumble but are very talented carpenters . It's been a pleasure watching the progress thanks !

Being in my seventies I really enjoy watching the senior builders working on boat! Has anyone else noticed that they are usually the ones laying out the boards for the cutting? That’s what having experience gives you.

It's amazing to watch this wooden boat rebuild that while using modern tools, is also using methods and techniques that are likely hundreds of years old. I'll bet that when you bought this boat you did not expect that you'd end up documenting traditional boat building techniques and broadcasting them to the world! In any case, I'm glad you did because its fascinating to watch!

um...the workmen...I am around these guys' age range and in no way, could I do the physical requirements that are needed. I am guessing that a few of these guys are in their 60's. I have had mixed emotions about this refit. It's really all about money. This story is just Act 1 not yet completed. There are at least 4 more Acts to start...and to finish. Each of the following Acts, I think, are going to be as mind-bending as getting rid of the rot. This is going to be a long ride folks. Buckle up!!!

@@davidk4940 You are right about the very hard work those guys are showing us. Being 69 in 2 weeks, I can relate. I'm still in good shape BUT the last year of confinement is hitting hard, I lost my stamina, doing nothing but watching YT vids like this one. I'll have to do works out to regain strenght. Maybe you should do the same David !! These gentlemen never stopped so they presumably are in top shape. As for your other comment about the actual state of their boat and the rot, don't you believe they know ALL about it ?? No need to remind our young couple here the rest of the work coming. It sounds so negative. 🙄

@@marcryvon Thanks for your comments. Regarding the work that is coming for those two, they know what's ahead. They first had to...must... survive Act 1 of the play. We know Act 1 is named Removing All the Rot. No idea what Act 2 is going to be. Could be the engine, could be the electronics, or any number of things. By me just stating facts is not negative. It is reality. It only costs money. And in that shipyard, they look really busy and their knowledge and skill level is pretty remarkable. No laptops here!

That hose trick is absolutely ingenious, and I wonder how far back it goes? Were ancient builders using stitched-together pig intestines filled with water? The tarp looks nice an tight, but it needs a lot more attachment points. If the wind picks up, it will just rip it off. Use some long, narrow strips of planking to nail it to the hull instead of small blocks. And maybe roll the tarp one or to times around the strips of plank before you naiI it. I noticed the same, he has some of the whitest teeth I have seen on a dog. Perhaps chewing on old wood has its advantages. :)

Hi Ben and MP, I've been following you on this resurrection of your boat. It is actually a very beautiful yacht, I've already got my little bottle of seagram's waiting for the whiskey plank to be installed, it's going to be a while but I'm patient and sure it will be done in a few months. You're really working very hard and I hope it turns out fantastic for the both of you. I hope you do the interior nice, after all it's going to be your home. So good luck and I'll keep watching...take care of that little dog...he's quite taken with the both of you.

Seeing the size of those planks makes you wonder where all this wood is coming from. How old was the tree for that sheer plank? Was it rain forest sourced?

The wood is being sourced from a farm that specifically grows and harvests fast growth wood for these boat yards,
