After spending over 1,000 hours with Mag Prime, I’ve refined some thoughts on her builds and playstyle. I am not saying my build is better than anyone else's just wanted to add to the discussion, since Mag is my waifu lol! While I agree she can be energy-hungry, I believe running Primed Flow, Energy Nexus, and Energy Siphon together is overkill. Replacing Energy Siphon with Brief Respite is a more practical choice, as it provides a brief window of invulnerability whenever you cast an ability. Combining this with Polarize enables shield-gating, granting about two seconds of invulnerability per cast. For this setup, a second Tauforged Amber Archon Shard is required to reduce the cast animation time, ensuring it’s shorter than the invulnerability window. Without two shards, I would retain Natural Talent for smoother gameplay. Given the recent armor nerfs, Fracturing Crush is no longer essential unless you’re running endurance missions. A better alternative is Magnetized Discharge, which offers increased range and the ability to prematurely detonate bubbles, giving you greater control and flexibility. This strategy involves casting more bubbles, making Fleeting Expertise a better choice than Primed Flow for energy efficiency. Since you’ll no longer rely on waiting for the bubble's duration to expire, you gain agency in managing Magnetize’s DPS scaling by choosing when to detonate. Maintaining three active bubbles requires frequent casting, which justifies the use of Fleeting Expertise over Primed Flow. To counteract the reduced duration from Fleeting Expertise and Transient Fortitude, Primed Continuity can replace Augur Reach, ensuring a balanced duration for abilities. If energy management remains a challenge even with Energy Nexus and Fleeting Expertise, Arcane Energize is an excellent option to sustain energy levels. Arcane Aegis, while less critical, can complement builds that don’t rely on Brief Respite by enhancing survivability. Ability Strength is a critical factor for this build. At 139% Ability Strength, Polarize fully restores shields, ensuring maximum shield-gate uptime. With Brief Respite, this also adds an additional 0.71 seconds of invulnerability, increasing total invulnerability from Polarize casts to 2.39 seconds. While Fracturing Crush can strip 100% armor with just 134% Ability Strength, this is less significant due to the armor nerfs and the effective armor-stripping capabilities of weapons like the Exergis or companions like the Panzer Vulpaphyla. This build strikes an ideal balance between survivability, energy efficiency, and damage potential. By leveraging shield-gating mechanics and Magnetized Discharge, you maintain excellent battlefield control while maximizing Mag’s offensive capabilities. These adjustments also provide more flexibility in modding without sacrificing effectiveness, making Mag a powerhouse for both casual and endurance missions.

on the topic of attenuation, i think it definitely has a place in the game. it probably shouldn't ever be the first line of defense against being obliterated, i think something like a necramech or babau or something would probably be more interesting with a quick operator based mechanical check or something, but i think there's no avoiding its application sometimes just so that fights can feel substantial and things live long enough that you have to experience their mechanics in some fashion. just don't make it take 20 minutes of waiting around like the secret murmur boss. i think the archons are in a fine spot right now where yes they're attenuated, but they still die fast enough that it rarely feels like you're just waiting on them with nothing to do, at least not for more than like 10 seconds, and newbies still get to participate. in the case of the desiccant specifically, aside from the buggy times where attenuation goes crazy for no discernable reason and they start taking functionally 0 damage for actual minutes, i think i actually like the attenuation coupled with the relatively minor ttk as a way to incentivize you to just set a damaging status on them and go do other stuff before coming back and finishing them off if they haven't already died. i also love the mechanical applications of having the occasional attenuated enemy around, like using them to blast neutralizer headshots around for a bit or, as you spoke about, mag's bubble getting an extended duration on an enemy without the use of something like well of life. that sort of minor attenuated enemy would be actually perfect imo if they took the impact status that opens them up for parazon finishers at ~80% life. without attenuated enemies around i think it's a shame that when your damage gets too high the parazon becomes almost impossible to work into builds when some parazon mods can have interesting application, like blood for ammo with a weapon like the trumna, and having some minor attenuation without also nerfing the parazon to 20% life would let you work it into your gameplay more, and would make the timer aspect of attenuation more optional on these minor enemies as a result, since you could parazon them if you don't want to keep them around for any of the other applications. tl;dr it may literally just be putting a timer on enemies, but i really do love all the ways you can take advantage of enemies not just instantly dying for once and while not perfect, i think more enemies like desiccants could introduce a good amount of variety to the gameplay, though i also wish we had more enemies with other mechanical gimmicks, such as using the operator, or if necramechs simply died when you blew off all their limbs.
@Ablative_MeatShield14 сағат бұрын
I would add that if there don't use the impact proc parazon synergy, there should at least be some kind of mechanical method of defeating them faster. Make me think and strategize when I see them, not just be annoyed at an enemy designed to waste my time.

In this specific case the way I would go about it its making their weakpoints bypass their attenuation, maybe add some demolisher like DR but we really need a faster way to kill them. DE just don't want people to just run with the occucor or torid and obliterate everything in their eay I supose, that could make players stop for a few seconds as well as helping this weakpoint meta they've been introducing

If the build already includes the Exergis, which excels at armor stripping, and Polarize for additional utility, there’s little need to run Fracturing Crush. Wouldn't removing this augment be better? I do agree that running both Energy Siphon and Energy Nexus is redundant, the absence of any efficiency mods in this build may justify the heavy reliance on energy regeneration. Personally, I’ve never used Mag without some efficiency.

Sometimes I feel like the dedicants attenuation is just overtuned. There will be times where I'm fighting one and it basically just stops taking damage entirely. Other times they will die in a few hits. With those ones that stop taking damage, their health bar just stays in one spot no matter what I do, and I pretty much have to run away and come back after about a minute to finish them off, which is rather annoying. I once had one survive an onslaught from hyldrin's 4 augment for 5 straight minutes, and hits health bar didn't move at all.

Considering that damage atenuation is a way of balancing the bosses to make everyone be able to eperience them in the same way, It could be very difficult to tailor each encounter to the specific loadout of the squad members BUT, maybe having literal difficulty gradients for these encounter might allow those that have low or poorly optimized gear, to have a "fair fight" and those that have all the good min maxed gear, fae the more difficult version of the boss, adding additional steps to balance out the potential amount of damage the players can output with some valid defenses or mechanics that can demand more from the pro players, than just hovering on top of th ething burning time own til the thing is over. Steel path has by default some modifiers, add additional modifiers to the boss encounters similar to EDA so you can tackle these as you progress in your game, instead of just having a massive bullet sponge. It can be more fun to do boss fighting if the whole experience could be ranked; not locked by mastery or something like that since mr means nothing in skill terms just represents how much you have leveled up and such, the ranking could have a set of weapons and setups that qualify for the encounter, so if you dont have at least the minimum to tackle the next tier, you can face the same boss but at you rcurrent level. In that way, the boss can have a more reasonable EHP and allow everyone to enjoy the fruits of their progression. maybe adding a special tab in the star chart selector to increase the difficulty of bosses could be a nice way to fix this instead of just making every new boss a bullet sponge, dunno, hopefully they add more bosses that are fun to fight against instead of jsut be, a nusense to face, dunno

You could bring a Felarx, you could bring a Phenmor, a Tenet Plasmor, a Latron... But you could also bring an EXERGIS. Even on a build with just a rounding up ammo stock for 2 in the magazine, no arcanes, normally that feels way too slow, but Mag's bubble makes it feel so good. I never was the biggest fan of Lanka cause scoping, comboing and charging, but that's another great example of a weapon she enables so well. (Also, Lanka iirc relies a lot on crit, which does not get absorbed into the bubble field and explosion dmg, part of why Exergis slaps)

After the H-09 tank, I've been reminded of attenuations somewhat unnecessary place in the game. It's a much more engaging fight than the 60 eyes Fragmented, and it feels infinitely more rewarding to kill it fast. I think the whole "90% of the body takes little damage while certain weakpoints pop up" mechanic is great. It encourages you to actually look at your enemies for longer than 2 seconds. Maybe a version of that mechanic but with the weakpoints popping in and out ever few seconds would be even better. Alternatively, if we're really obsessed with attenuation, I think I would still like if the FIRST hit was not effected by the attenuation, that way there was at least SOME way to speed up your TTK on them. And on an enemy like the Dedicant, you won't have the problem the Archons had where everyone would just go Ivara with Xata+Felarx to completely one shot them, because you won't want to run Ivara+Felarx on every survival.

I run transient fortitude instead of any intensify because I prefer the shorter duration for magnetize. Less time till the bubble pops and breach search has plenty of duration still, too. Also, I haven't had any problems with 2 energy max tau shards, so I'd recommend that over a flow mod.
@M0du5Pwn3n54 сағат бұрын
For me, the amount of time the dedicants last is long enough to be noticeable, but short enough not to be too annoying. I don't think they're particularly interesting, but I also don't think they're particularly terrible. It's kind of weird that the dedicants have both huge weakspots and also attenuation that makes the weakspots less valuable, but it makes more sense if they're viewed as weakspot-hit batteries. If you're playing Cyte-09 or using anything that triggers on weakspot hits, they're basically pinatas, which is a neat idea.
@rizacallagher2642 сағат бұрын
Instead of the Exergis, I recommend trying out the Penta! If you don't detonate the grenades, they just keep on spinning dealing their damage hundreds/thousands of times to everything in the middle of the bubble. Back when I streamed, a viewer dubbed it ASMR Mag due to all the hit sounds.

Idk if I’m using the right gear or what, but I’ve found a few things that get around the attenuation very easily and I barely notice the difference between the dedicants and the normal enemies. The babau exima are actually a little tanky, and I think attenuation is the only way to make that happen because otherwise I would just nuke them also. My ttk on them is probably the highest out of any enemy and I would put it at ~15 seconds if I was to guess.

@melodybentley238615 сағат бұрын
Personal bias, really like putting Magnetized Discharge on this type of build--the add range means you can drop Overextended (more than enough for any indoor tilesets, though have yet to test on Hollvania), and the disarm is a nice-to-have if you're subsuming over Polarize
@DavionAngeles14 сағат бұрын
Why would anyone subsume Polarize over Pull? No one does this except by accident or lack of information? LOL!
@Glamador13 сағат бұрын
@@DavionAngeles Well for one, Pull does something. Sometimes that something is useful. Polarize, on the other hand, does nothing whatsoever. Her 4 already gives shields and overshields, and stuns. Is it really worth keeping her 4 at this point? With the armor changes from Jade, Mag’s flat strip from her 3 is now a lot more effective. With P-Redirection it’s quite easy to tank with her 3 and strip without an augment and needing to go through her 4 animation.

If I'm not doing this specific build, just some general stuff without Helminth or weapon synergies, is the singular casting speed shard still all that's recommended? I play Mag for and with just about anything, but I also play in weird, kinda restrictive ways. I've kinda horded my shards, figuring I'd get around to finding what's best for Mag before using any of them for anyone, but this setup isn't likely what I'm going to use anyway lol.

Also, in play _at first_ I wasn't a fan of the Dedicants, but as I think about it now, looking at how I tend to address them, I think they're actually probably good for the game. Usually I just shoot them in the fanny pack to break their overguard and then crowd control them, which is... Actually probably healthy for the game, as long as they don't go overboard with them/similar enemies. It gives a niche to actual crowd control frames and makes their be a problem in the game that just nuking off the map isn't the best solution to-- with the caveat that you kind of need to learn that it just isn't usually worth shooting them constantly until they die. But hit 'em with CC and then slap them with a dot every now and then and they'll die reasonably well. Or just be Grendel and eat them after their overguard pops.

Same treatment as max range Limbo bubble 🤷🏻♂️ Especially if they’re trying to charge Incarnons Also, the game is so fast paced that you don’t always stay in one place. So high duration is unnecessary for most missions unless you’re doing endurance stationary missions, which yes it’s great for what it does but gets reeally boring after a while. And in public missions, most often than not, allies kill enemies before the casting animation even places the bubble down 🤷🏻♂️ Practically immortal in solo endurance tho 👌

Giving enemy units attenuation and overguard are terrible and not fun game design choices DE have made instead of giving us mechanically interesting and engaging combat. But how can they, when they've made us able to zoom around the map in 0.2 seconds, become effectively (or even literally) immortal, AND capable of doing millions of damage within the blink of an eye? All the fun of the game is in what we the player can do, and none of it is from what enemies we fight. There should be a balance, but there isnt. Its become like path of exile 1. Sure, its fun to check out a new league here and instantly kill everything on the screen while moving at mach 6 for a little while, but its not very interesting or engaging so I tap out pretty quickly. Whereas path of exile 2, which is a bit slower and more tactical with enemy types that have interesting mechanics like a slow and heavy wind-up attack you have to dodge (until after act 3 when it all starts going downhill because its still in early access blabla) is MUCH more fun, at least for me personally
