Not bad for winter. I think I was 3 over handicap which is decent and no complaints. Although it would of been nice not to fat that wedge on 17 and then thin the chip. You can't have it all though at this time of year. Cheers

Ian, I've got to the point I can't hit it far enough to lose it. That 8th at 455 sure plays a long way now I've lost some speed. A couple of years back when it was firm in summer I hit a 5 iron at it, now I can't reach in winter. Poor old man! Course you can make a good score, it's not the birdies but the double bogeys you avoid. Best of luck

Just in case my comment has disappeared into the ether! Well done, good golf set up by an extremely good front 9! And then a birdie on 12!!!! Good golf, and it really is that easy (oh, I wish!!!). Shirt sleeves in November? Tut tut, though 6 or 7 years ago I do remember a single December day, down in Devon, where shorts were the proper attire, as it was so warm!!!! A very rare instance that, mind! Regarding 17, if only you'd taken enough club to get to the back of the green in the first place 😜🤣

Well it does get rather warm walking up and down those hills. You wouldn't know on your flat as a pancake course! I think it hit about 12 degrees that day for a little while. Helps to go out just before lunch and hit the warmest part of the day. It was an okay round saved by the short game and me not giving up on a ball that was plaugged somewhere on the fairway. I was shocked by the 4 hybrid up the par 3 and that awful fat shot on 17. The card doesn't care how you do it although I was still over handicap for the round.

Thanks David. I spend a bit of time ball ratting as I go round. Usually it's 3 hours 50 for a single golfer. I spend a lot of time walking the camera to where I want it when I miss a green. The positive side of that is I get to walk a long putt or a long chip and run which gives me so much information. With a golf cart I can do it in 2 hours 40 if there is nothing in front of me. I do like to try and find a pace that means I don't wait and nobody waits for me. If there is a 3 ball half a hole in front I can slow down and match their pace or go ball hunting and let them get a full hole in front. I'm always juggling my speed to basically stay out of everyone else's way. I don't want to hold up and I don't want to pressure what is in front of me. I also try and book a tee time when the course is empty. I did have someone help me once a long time ago. When I saw the clips he had stopped recording as soon as I hit the ball and long before the ball hit the ground. Basically the only person I trust is me.

Flew past, this one - well played, until the circus music. Re Taylor Made: I agree, it's just a trendy affectation, but I'm still picking them up for my pal Zak, who likes 'em. Srixons are what I find, generally at my place, which suits my pal John (and me - I'm promiscuous; if I keep one for a round, I'll choose it next time). This probably means I'm as lousy as the the average Srixon consumer and am looking in the same locations.

Good front nine Simon.Back nine usually considered easier,but I've witnessed many rounds ruined by that complacent assumption.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 6 күн бұрын
Hello Mark, that back 9 can eat you alive. Lose a ball down the right of 11 and 12. 14 with your drive and second shot. Then there is 16. If I don't feel confident I'll hit 3 wood up 16 rather than driver. I think though if you are playing around your handicap, take your bogeys on the hard holes there is no reason why you can't catch up from being 2 over handicap on the front and turn in 35 or 36 points. There are opportunities. Obviously I'm playing yellow tees that are easier but then I only get 5 shots from the yellows. What did I run out here? Was it 8 over 78? Not bad for winter when 6,8 and 9 play so long. I'm very happy with that. But yes, you still need to make some good decisions and play within yourself and not try and force the issue making more mistakes. Cheers

@@markdavies3489 I don't mind bogey on the 1st. On my handicap I need to par the next 3 and most of the time I will bogey 5. If I can squeeze a par out of 6 and 7 then I am set up for the back 9 at 3 over. Lately it's been 5 over after 9 and then I'm chasing which will mean more bogeys. But without the average rounds the special ones will not feel special.

Good stuff mate! Hard to turn down an invitation like that so you can do the hard work of making a video instead of playing a nice social round. Question for you, what's your experience of trackman or top tracer ranges? Just had one installed at my local range, big price increase for balls but a much better range experience.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 8 күн бұрын
My issue with those things is the balls cost more (as you say) and they are not accurate. I was hitting 4 irons at the 170 yard marker and reaching it. Trackman was saying I was hitting only 162 yards carry. I hit the bloody marker on the full! I lasered it and it was 170 yards. The thing those things don't do is tell you what you really need to know. Swing path and face to swing path. I don't use them for that reason. Although from time to time the unit is still switched on when I get in the bay and I look a little bit. Cheers

@thehairygolfer i have been wondering about the distances as its all done by algorithm and they seem to be coming up a little short of what I'd expect but I can live with that. What I like about it is being able to see shot patterns and dispersion tendancies. I used to be able to hit balls on a pitch and putt course but from across the course rather than following the holes and being able to hit 4 7 irons and then go see how close they were on average was really eye opening and this is similar. The other thing was playing a simulated course. I found the software takes a while so it really slowed me down and having to hit to a target and getting a somewhat realistic result or punishment made it more worthwhile than just hitting balls. It's good to see that you can hit shots that on the range I'd ordinarily be a bit unhappy with that actually would be fairly decent in an actual round.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 8 күн бұрын
@@robertcourt8593 That is one function that is good. Being able to see how your group of 6 irons has gone. I have used the par 3 holes for the same reason, see how many times I hit the green. I still have an issue with the balls and the mats, you simply can't beat grass for playing off. I guess we are all different.
@robertcourt8593
@robertcourt8593 8 күн бұрын
@@thehairygolferoh I 100% agree that I'd prefer to be playing golf on the course or even the par 3 course but unfortunately time is limited at weekends and almost always defeated by the weather. I had yesterday off work but due to the storms at the weekend I didn't bother. On a brighter note I think I've sorted out my driver woes that's been ongoing for some time. I hit 6 out of 7 imaginary fairways on adare manors front 9 last night 😂😂😂
@nevillehubbard7347
@nevillehubbard7347 7 күн бұрын
@@robertcourt8593my experience of a TopTracer range is, if you add 15% to your average distance for each iron, and 10% to your average wood, hybrid and driver distance, those are the distances that you actually hit/carry on a golf course! You seem to pay a lot more for a worse product when technology is involved!

I would never claim anybody can break 80. Age, fitness, practice, lessons, warming up before you play all play a part in your ability to make a score. 99% of people do not warm up before a round and they are behind the 8 ball before they tee off. I wouldn't trust a quick fix either or the vast majority of Pros on youtube. Got a problem then go get eyes on it and have a course of lessons with a real person. I always advise that. Cheers
