As a teacher in Israel I've been privileged to have had 3 sabbatical years in a 30- year career! The Education Ministry pays us a living stipend (60% of the last paycheck) but insists we study one day a week. During the first sabbatical I did my Masters in Education, in the second I traveled to Italy to study the language and came back empowered. Last year I chose to study Shiatsu full time. Back at work I see how burnt-out colleagues are, high price for security.

@@kohlialok Thanks for sharing your story. I am exactly where you are but without the family. I am overweight, angry, stressed, and at 38 years old I dont know where my life is going. I took 8-9 months off a few years ago and it was one of the best things I did in my life. Now I have been working for 4+ years and already afraid to do it again.

@kohlialok no not at all and I appreciate your insight. You are right, I don't feel connected to my work at all and lack the purpose and direction in my life. Its very difficult to quit a job when you have desi parents and they sacrificed everything to bring you to another country where you can be successful. And you finally are until 10 years later you realize its the wrong ladder and your job is making you miserable. Life is too short to stay miserable at a job you hate but I dont think switching companies will help and I am looking for a complete career change. Of course that can be very difficult when you dont know what you want to do hence the break and sabbatical I was considering.

@@adammorra3813 now that you are thinking about it am sure you will figure it out it sooner or later! Not a bad idea to seek help (professional or someone with wisdom) ; can help clear cobwebs and help answer to yourself 'if not this then what... '. Best of Luck!

I’m at sabbatical after quoting corporate job. I was having anxiety almost every day and every single time before meetings. I’m trying new stuff to do and spending more time with my family.

One thing to always remember is that as much wisdom as your parents have, this is also their first (and only) try at life. They don't have everything figured out so take their ideas with a grain of salt. With respect of course.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s never the parents , it’s one’s own inability to decider what is it that you really want

They didn’t @jimbojimbo6873. But one must do what one believes is the best.
